swannymere Posted 5 May, 2011 Share Posted 5 May, 2011 (edited) Does anyone know where i can trace information about my grandfather William Clinton Murphy who worked for one or both of these companies in Woolston? He was sent over from Belfast with his brother to help with the war effort in the 1940's and continued working in the 50's, 60's and possibly the 70's and from memory he was associated with woodcrafts of some sort or another. He lived at 3 Sholing Avenue, Sholing for about 40 years. Any information or pointers would be appreciated. Whitey Grandad Posted 5 May, 2011 Share Posted 5 May, 2011 Have you tried the companies direct? Often there is somebody who acts as historian, possibly someone who is now retired.
anothersaintinsouthsea Posted 5 May, 2011 Share Posted 5 May, 2011 I'm pretty sure that there is some sort of Vospers historical society, can't find anything on the web though. VT were bought by Babcock a year or so ago but the shipbuilding bit is now part of BAE in Portsmouth.

There's a bloke who does quite a lot of Vospers historical stuff. Trevor Piper or something like that, you could look him up on the web and drop him a mail.
