Manager who is underwhelming, talks nonsense and lost the dressing room, using a diamond which never works.

Keeper is a clown.

Hammond who disappears.

Morgan who is light weight and can't be relied upon.

Lallana injury prone.

Barnard who is now in prison

Ox-C - too young for first team

Lambert slow and off form - can't play all season

Guly - "taxi for..."

Connolly who won't play a game.

Squad too small and without seriuos investment in January will not make play off

Cortese lost interest

This team taking on the mighty Peterborough, who under Fergie won't drop a point.

just need it explained ;)

Think a few weeks of enjoying it and gloating is fair after season of ridiculous comical ill-informed moaning!

Some get it right; some get it wrong; nobody get it consistently right; nobody gets it consistently wrong; some of these statements remain true even after we've been promoted; some were ridiculous the first day they were uttered; people can quite legitimately point to weaknesses in particular players but acknowledge other qualities that compensate for them. Life's just a tad more complicated.

And ultimately doesn't mean anyone cares less about the club.

For every ridiculous negative comment there was a ridiculous positive comment and 90% of them posted by you. All your positivity had no empirical basis so you were just as ill informed, just because we were promoted doesn't make you right.

Talking of agression from Saints fans - your posts in the last 30 minutes:

I dont see why some sad-act beer-swilling pie-munching f**kwit has the right to judge others...

What b*ll*cks.

Another d*ck-waving smug-tw*t thread.

So what ? This site has become obsessed with petty points-scoring in the last couple of days, sod the fact we gonna be promoted.

On a serious note, the reason why some may have been critical throughout the season is the level of expectations, partly based on the resources available. We should be comfortably beating Dagenham/Walsall/Tranmere/Hartlepool etc, same way Man Utd should hammer Wigan, it's not unusal for football fans to get frustrated when that doesn't happen.

I think that anyone who says we were blooooooody lucky, is an idiot and knows zilch about football or Saints...

We were world champs from day one....

Roll on the party.....

Could I invite you all to join me at the parteeeee at St Marys on Saturday...

This

I have been very guilty of this

Last season I expected a relegation battle and got seventh plus a cup win I was very happy

This season (for the first and probably last time) I expected League champions and got second, which leaves me happy twinged with a bit of dissappointment.

Next season I'm setting my self up for top half finish (maybe outside playoffs ) so I'm likely to be less dissapointed next season.

After Wotte's first game I posted that thought he would keep us up - too positive I admit!

Where was I Ill informed this season? Said 2nd. Said squad had enough to go up, but could do with pace off bench (Forte).

I will admit to one of the criticisms in first post being mine though!

Putting aside how these statements were expressed - often OTT and ad hominem, they contain some truth - so much so that NA recognised and responded to them.

Re. our midfield and Hammond/Schneiderlin, NA knew that it was vulnerable and quite static and his first signing was the more roving Chaplow;

Re. OXO, NA stated more explicitly than anyone that the lad was still growing and needed to be introduced slowly - hence he had no issue with pulling off after 45 mins in games;

Re. Connolly - he hasn't played many games and if he hasn't played more, its probably due to NA's decisions, not DC's fitness;

Re. Lambert - by the player's own admission, he has had a few dry spells this season - Lambert has been playing deeper under NA which is an acknowledgment that he's not going to hurt teams with blistering pace - again that's partly why we brought in Forte;

Re. Lallana -we obviously missed him - the Daily Echo's numbers how how AL's absence coincided with poor results. Uncertainty over his condition again forced NA to dip into the transfer market (e.g.N'Guessan);

Re. Barnard - there were question marks over what would happen to him - hence Guly's first real run in the side as a converted centre-forward concided with Barny's off the field troubles.

Its easy to go on and on. Obviously none of these things meant we were going to blow the season - that's nonsense and just usual fan hyperbole; but boil away the bluff, some are not without rhyme or reason - arguably NA understood them better than the rest of us, acted on them and is one reason we're sitting so pretty.

that sums it up. We all have opinions from what we see, or read on here, but we know and see a fraction of what a manager does.

You could have easily dropped in "ridiculous injury crisis experienced from February onwards the likes of which was seen by no other team in the division", but fortunately our depth of squad was sufficient that we were still able to switch 5 or 6 players in and out for the Sat/Mon games in the run-in. Any other team in this division would have lost more than they won in those circumstances, but we had the foresight to cover ourselves against it.

Good job we didn't waste a load of money signing backups when we had enough players to cope (once we got Dale Stephens in...) :D

exactly. Those who said we needed to sign in January, that not signing CMS showed we lacked ambition to go up etc would have had a field day.

On top of that we have fans who whinge and whine and generally drag up old arguments even when the future is bright.

No wonder Messi wouldn't sign for us with fans like that!

Perhaps success has soothed our angry bitter souls.

actually I hope we don't conspire to lose 0-18 to wallsal on saturday cuase then this thread might look a bit silly.

I think this thread will be the least of our problems if we lose 18-0 on Sat.

As the Duke of Wellington said of the Battle of Waterloo: "It has been a damn nice thing-the nearest run thing you ever saw..." But it could so easily have turned out different. As Thatcher once said: "Just rejoice at that news..."

If my earlier prediction of 2nd proves wrong, and we end up in the play offs I will leave this forum in shame.

But if Brighton had got two fewer wins, they wouldn't be champions. The fact is they got those wins and so did we.
