Harry Bloggs Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 Wouldn't it be nice if fans could stay off the pitch on Saturday, at least until the players have been able to do a lap of honour? I know everyone wants to acclaim their heroes but if there's a pitch invasion following the final whistle then a great day of celebration could just fizzle out. Is it too much to hope that we can applaud the team as they do a stroll around the stadium without being submerged under scores of overenthusiastic fans. I can't help thinking the team would prefer it that way.
JRM Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 F8ck off you boring ****, there's no better buzz at football than a classic end of season pitch invasion. ON THE PITCH
Spades Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 Gota say i agree with Mr Bloggs! No better way to thank the team for their hard work over the season than with a standing ovation as they walk around the pitch with their children. As its seeming likely a pitch invasion will happen, i hope the stewards get everyone clear quite quickly so a lap of honour can be done
kpturner Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 Pitch invasions seemed to work quite well at the Dell 'cos the players just appeared in the Directors box with their families etc. At St. Marys it seems that staying in your seat while they do a lap of honour is more appropriate. Maybe go on the pitch, sniff the turf, then get off again
Saint-Armstrong Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 I would much rather a lap of honour than run across a football pitch - if you want to go on the turf, pay the Saints Foundation and have a kick about while you are there.
Nexstar Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 Having clapped the team off at 46 games this season I would rather celebrate that bit more than just putting my hands together. Pitch invade then lap of honour, can't see why that wouldn't work
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 Gotta be a pitch invasion! We've been promoted ffs!
dellish Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 best part of season on the pitch .and promotion two , only them bloody dogs will stop me.
Evil Monkey Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 Is anyone going to take a ball so we can have a kick about, or are we just going to take one off a ball boy? Is 5,000-a-side workable? I will be wearing the home strip and am claiming one of the 500 striker positions.
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 best part of season on the pitch .and promotion two , only them bloody dogs will stop me. If we all run at once, only a few of us can get bitten!
Saint Samuel Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 Pitch invade then lap of honour, can't see why that wouldn't work It worked pretty well in 2008 when we stayed up on the last day against Sheffield United. A minute before the game I remember hearing the tannoy annoucement "THERE WILL BE NO PITCH INVASION TODAY", seconds later thousands of us were on there. The players had a ring of stewards around them as they went around the pitch, seemed all ok to me.
dubai_phil Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 30,000 odd in the Itchen & on the pitch saluting the players & their families as they come out into the Directors Box is a far more spine tingling way to say well done. The issue is for some of our Prawn Sandwich brigade that Pitch Invasion is different from an orderly stroll out onto the pitch that used to happen at the Dell. Invasion is full of old Hooligan connotations. An invitation for everyone to make their way carefully and safely onto the pitch is very different and to be honest those days at the Dell are far more ingrained than any lap of honour (OK aprat from Wembly twice) Parents with Kids told to meet back up at their original seating/standing area as used to be simply doesn't work in the don't think for yourself 'elfnsafetea days
dubai_phil Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 Is anyone going to take a ball so we can have a kick about, or are we just going to take one off a ball boy? Is 5,000-a-side workable? I will be wearing the home strip and am claiming one of the 500 striker positions. And I will be coaching the mighty Home Team to victory from the Dugout and doing the post match interviews!
NickG Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 Think will be keener than normal to fans off due to game next day
saint lard Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 I'm sure there will be a pitch invasion, but if i'm honest i would rather there was'nt one.
Deppo Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 I'm all for a pitch invasion - while the police, stewards and everyone is distracted I could nip into the changing rooms and try and see Kelvin's penis.
Chez Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 Anyone still got a boot or sock taken from Ruddock et al during a final game invasion at the Dell?
JRM Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 Fantastic scenes. Brilliant scenes, this is football and there is no better rush of adrenaline than running on the pitch, some of the others on here sound better suited to nights at the theatre clapping politely and shouting encore!
Saint_Jonny Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 You're Gay. HTH. You are wrong, find someone else to bum gaylord.
Appy Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 You are wrong, find someone else to bum gaylord. I'll find someone on the pitch.
Saint_Jonny Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 I'll find someone on the pitch. haha thats the spirit!
benjii Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 "no better adrenaline rush than running on the pitch" Simple pleasures.... Having said that, the best form of end of season celebration I have experienced was the old Dell format of everyone on the pitch followed by an appearance from the playing staff in the stands. I would like this to happen.
simo Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 On the pitch on the pitch on the pitch on the pitch on the pitch on the pitch on the pitch on the pitch on the pitch on the pitch ON. THE. PITCH !!!!!!!
sfc4prem Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 I would much rather a lap of honour than run across a football pitch - if you want to go on the turf, pay the Saints Foundation and have a kick about while you are there. Are you BORING or something?

SNSUN Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 That's the spirit lads, you lot distract the stewards, i'll break into the bar!
farawaysaint Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 F8ck off you boring ****, there's no better buzz at football than a classic end of season pitch invasion. ON THE PITCH Lovely... Knob.
Mark Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 Brilliant scenes, this is football and there is no better rush of adrenaline than running on the pitch, some of the others on here sound better suited to nights at the theatre clapping politely and shouting encore! Spot on! You can't beat a good pitch invasion.
SaintNeil90 Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 Jesus some of you lot are boring. I cant wait to run on the pitch like a headless chicken. We will have been promoted. Why do I want to watch the WAGS and kids walk round the pitch?
dickyhale Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 Just read this item about banning orders given to them after a pitch invasion on the last day of the season.....3 year banning order for a pitch invasion on the last day of the season. Well one good thing about that in 3 years we should be in the Premiership......... http://www.oxfordtimes.co.uk/news/5060092.United_fans_fight_banning_orders/

Tom8558 Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 I've got to run from row P of the chapel. However, my hope is I'll be the first person in the chapel to invade and because we are the strikers end i can run on lambert
niceandfriendly Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 Fantastic scenes. absolutely. on first reading the thread title i agreed with it, but seeing those scenes brought back excellent memories. it's going to be fun on Saturday boys and girls

Why do I want to watch the WAGS and kids walk round the pitch? because it gives the players and their families chance to enjoy the support and connect with fans rather than having to run away incase they get grabbed by a dozen 14 year olds with acne?
Saint Fan CaM Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 Bloody hooligan youth - keep off the damn pitch and let the law abiding supporters of this superb football club enjoy the proud march of the players and their families around the pitch. pmsl.
The Mac Attack Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 absolutely. on first reading the thread title i agreed with it, but seeing those scenes brought back excellent memories. it's going to be fun on Saturday boys and girls This video is absolutely hilarious. Everyone running onto the pitch appears absolutely crazed. Headless chickens, could not desbcibe it better. Lets get on the pitch on Saturday and try and catch us some players!
Dr Who? Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 I am going on the pitch. Then clear the pitch and then the players can come out and give us a wave..... or they can do that the next bloody day!!
Griffo Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 Exactly. We can go on, then get off for the lap of honour!
BadgerBadger Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 Pitch invasions should be spontaneous not premeditated = staying up on the last game with a late goal made for a valid invasion, Sat does not. These need to be reserved for really special moments, we did what we should have done and got promoted

Paul Chuckle Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 I can see a massive police presence with dogs. Walsall could be relegated after all
hamster Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 If anyone sees me struggling to lift a few wheelchairs over the ad boards in the chapel, please stop and lend a hand. Thanks in advance
Tom & Gerry Posted 5 May, 2011 Posted 5 May, 2011 I don't know who's worse, the people who leave early or those that want to go on the pitch. it just shows the small club mentality of some of our fans. You don't see pitch invasions at Old Trafford, Stamford Bridge, The Emirates, Anfield or any big club. Sorry to be boring.
Sour Mash Posted 5 May, 2011 Posted 5 May, 2011 Good. So we're all agreed that a pitch invasion followed by the players doing a lap of honour is the way forward. Looking forward to it now.
