Kevtherev Posted 3 May, 2011 Posted 3 May, 2011 Dear Sirs, Having just read your managers comments in the above could you please remind him we did not cancel the original fixture vs. Plymouth, the football league did so as Plymouth had three players on international duty, and on Plymouth’s request. When these players did not go on international duty for various reasons, Southampton requested the game to be played on the original date but this was refused. The league then set the new date, which seems to have upset him, why? Your manager seems to have an agenda against Southampton football club, I suggests he concentrates on Brighton football club and just live with the fact we will be playing championship football by right and not by design. I look forward to a reply, and to visiting your new stadium next year, and hope we can both promote south coast football in the championship. But I fear your manager will cause more harm than good by still trying to rubbish us at every opportunity, one would hope he has better things to do! I know our club has.
SuperMikey Posted 3 May, 2011 Posted 3 May, 2011 BHA - Brighton have no money? Where's this £90m stadium come from then? You won't be able to play the under-dog card in the Championship next year with your sparkly new stadium... I think this is mainly the paper making a story out of nothing, but nonetheless I reckon Gus is winding himself up. Maybe he was in for a big fat bonus had they gone unbeaten at home all season? We ruined his summer holiday plans
Gordon Mockles Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 Well, we'll be the team laughing as I think they'll struggle next season. Think how long it took Saints to settle into St Mary's. They've the hoodoo of a new ground & a whinging, classless cabron like Poyet to boot! Skeletor needs to get over his Saints obsession & back to managing his team in the castle of grey skull! The tosser!
trousers Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 Yay. Over 100 posts of not caring about Brighton and Poyet....
musesaint Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 Yay. Over 100 post of not caring about Brighton and Poyet.... What he said Publicity is the fuel of tossers .... why give it ??
JustMike Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 an unfair advantage?? yes because playing 2 games in 3 days on 2 weekends in a row in hot conditions is an advantage!! mong Poyet
NickG Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 I was thinking just that. He could have easily applied for the Saints job in the last couple of years and we turned him down.. Wouldn't surprise me. reckon there maybe some truth in this
OldNick Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 Brighton were fortunate that their 2 main rivals didnt play them earlier in the season at their place. The wheels would have come off for them sooner.
jam Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 Totally irelevant really. Pointless statement Meh, you started it with the hypotheticals...
rallyboy Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 funniest bit is how after our poor start they took offence at Nige's throwaway remark about them keeping up with us - and they couldn't! We have taken more points than them since that game, the sort of thing you'd keep under wraps if you were champions. But no, they printed that fact on their own programme, and made a banner to remind Nige that his managerial record has been better than Poyet's - for some bizarre non-motivational reason? even Huddersfield have matched them point for point since game 14 - the title was won in August. So, Saints and Huddersfield - the two best footballing sides in the division - and with proper managers. Hopefully Poyet doesn't get sacked before they come to St Marys, I look forward to more of his great motivational work!
SaintRobbie Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 I am looking forward to completely outclassing them next season in every way from our Ground to our position, Brighton's season will be worse than they think; a new ground will feel like playing away and when they fail to fill it they will start to descend to League 1. I rate Poyet as a manager, but I suspect Brighton are about to over-extend themselves. I can see us competing strongly for promotion next year.
Raven on the wing Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 Poyet had a chip on his shoulder about us before the season began. When we were reputedly going to sign Calderon he was making remarks about us even then.
Crazy Diamond Posted 14 June, 2011 Posted 14 June, 2011 (edited) Sorry to bring an old thread back to life, however... I've always been baffled as to why Brighton fans hate us so much. They seem to respond saying we're not rivals and they don't care about us, yet this season just gone goes totally against that. So imagine my surprise when I see this as someone's Twitter picture. Mind you, this guy's biography says he also supports West Ham. So he's not exactly all that smart. Still it must have been a nice day out for him... Edited 14 June, 2011 by Crazy Diamond Grammar
JonnyLove Posted 14 June, 2011 Posted 14 June, 2011 Bang up-to-date stadium technology. Whats this Windows XP????? http://www.seagulls.co.uk/page/StadiumGallery/0,,10433~2374633,00.html

Elmore Posted 14 June, 2011 Posted 14 June, 2011 Out of interest anyone know how they have financed their stadium? Wiki says that it cost over £100m to build (wow!) St Mary's *only* cost £32m and this debt became a millstone round our necks as soon as we were relegated.

If memory serves, they've got a chairman who made a big fortune from online poker, and he's backing them.
Smirking_Saint Posted 14 June, 2011 Posted 14 June, 2011 But if you actually look at him he is not worth all that much, no way that it is paid off. If Bloom ever leaves they will struggle.

Not the club's debt, unlike ours which was mortgaged (I think).

Miltonaggro Posted 14 June, 2011 Posted 14 June, 2011 Apparently the tag-line for selling advertising space at the Amex stadium is 'slightly smaller than Barnsley, slightly bigger than MK Dons, the future's bright with 12,000 spare padded seats in the new year'...
Crazy Diamond Posted 14 June, 2011 Posted 14 June, 2011 and they say we splash the cash etc That's rich (excuse the pun) coming from the team that have spent £1 million on a single player when we've spent nothing so far. Poyet himself has even said that he expects to spend more than that on another player! So, £2 million plus on two players. Yeah, cos we're really ruining these leagues with our spending.
ghq Posted 15 June, 2011 Posted 15 June, 2011 Good luck to them. They have a rich owner who has spent afair amount of money, what's wrong with that? And before the ridicule of their numpties starts, we have a fair few of our own. Witness the preoccupation with Pompey and any other team that dares to call themselves our "rivals".
itchen Posted 15 June, 2011 Posted 15 June, 2011 Their stadium looks great. Good luck to them. It will be a nice day out when we go there.
wobbly saint Posted 15 June, 2011 Posted 15 June, 2011 Their stadium looks great. Good luck to them. It will be a nice day out when we go there. Quite!
Wadge Posted 15 June, 2011 Posted 15 June, 2011 What an odd stadium - that mini-stand behind the goal looks funny. This. What a strange design for a stadium. I also didn't like the carpets.
Dimond Geezer Posted 15 June, 2011 Posted 15 June, 2011 The stadium looks great, apart from the carpets in the Platinum Lounges. You don't want to be in there with a hangover.
Special K Posted 15 June, 2011 Posted 15 June, 2011 Good luck to them. They have a rich owner who has spent afair amount of money, what's wrong with that? Couldn't agree more.
derry Posted 15 June, 2011 Posted 15 June, 2011 It looks as though the design is dictated by the fact it is built on the side of a hill. Tall on the bottom side short on the top side which looks like it dictates the height of the ends.
Fan The Flames Posted 15 June, 2011 Posted 15 June, 2011 I was under the impression that Bloom has underwritten the debt and Brighton will still have to service it, however it could have changed with the credit crunch. £93million is hugh but they had to do a load of civil work for the stadium. It's got to be better for us than the Withdean, but you can't park there so its going to be a pain getting to and from. Brighton have been through a lot over the last 15 years so the deserve this fresh start. I would love us to be their first home game and ruin their party.

Tall on the bottom side short on the top side which looks like it dictates the height of the ends. Because of it's location on the Downs and because of the objections (probably) by the neighbouring Lib Dem Lewis Council who wasted hundreds of pounds of tax payers money fighting a scheme that wasn't in their borough, they had to reduce the height of the outward elevation.
The Fat Controller Posted 15 June, 2011 Posted 15 June, 2011 virtually every team except probably Arsenal and man city have been relegated within 2-4 years after moving to a new stadium
saintquin Posted 15 June, 2011 Posted 15 June, 2011 virtually every team except probably Arsenal and man city have been relegated within 2-4 years after moving to a new stadium Plus Bolton, Readon, Coventry, MK Dons and I'm sure there are others.
