Confirmed so far;

Jason Dodd, Paul Jones, Claus Lundekvam, Paul Telfer, Egil Ostenstad, Paul Wotton, Paul Williams, Graham Murty, Antti Niemi, Michael Svensson, Inigo Idiakez, Chris Perry, Jo Tessem.

I'm sure I'll get slated for moaning, but I just don't really get the point of this game? Not too many real "stars". Just think it's going to feel like a damp squib, half-hearted finish to the end of the season, why not just leave it with the game on Saturday?

A chance to see a few old faces. Worth it just to see Niemi again if you ask me.

perhaps the club wants to give some of the players who'll be leaving this summer a chance to get a run-out.Might not be too much of an opportunity for that on Saturday with just 3 subs and an obligation to take the match seriously because Walsall are in a potential relegation scenario.

Williams? Wotton? Idiakez? Murty? Perry?

Probably just me, but I don't get the point of this game at all!

I thought that it was something that the players wanted to do rather than the club insisting on it.

If this was a testimonial for a player then i could see it's purpose, but otherwise i can't really see the appeal, saturday will be the day for celebration, party atmosphere, beat Walsall and on the pitch at the end, that will do for me.

i assume it is a chance for parents to take their youngsters to watch a game, for ex-players to be shown some respect and generally for all to have a good time.

It is not a serious event but another way to celebrate success. The JPT was never celebrated , even after the game of the season, so lets just not be negative and if some want to go then let them. if it means more saints shirts in the city and less chelsea man u ones etc then it is worth it.

I'm just not too sure how watching Murty and Idiakez running around St Marys will celebrate our success this season anymore than what will happen on Saturday?

" if some want to go then let them." - er, bit confused by that line in your post, I'm not stopping anyone going.

As others mentioned, I think it was positioned as the current squad wanting to give something back to the fans for free.

It's a first promotion for quite a lot of the players actually. Couldn't say exactly how many but certainly a majority of the group.

It's a completely free bit of fun. If we're talking about the "point" of things, then what is the point in life? It achieves nothing in the end.

Is the new kit being unveilled during this match ?

Might be but I doubt that the team will be wearing it, well not with names on anyway.

Probably Saints in the Sash and the All Stars in Black .

reckon there will be an announcement that a pitch invasion on Saturday will ruin the pitch and stop the promotion celebration / 125 anniversary / family day.

Most will stay off pitch, those who try will be boo'ed for ruining the saints celebration

No-one is forcing you to go. You don't "get it" - so what? It's simple, just don't go. I can't believe the number of people moaning about this. It's a free game of football with current and former saints players. If you're not interested, fair enough, don't go, but to endlessly moan about it is daft.

The point is it's a free, fun afternoon that my daughters (both season ticket holders) are really looking forward to. They like the idea they'll get to see some of our 'old' players even if they don't know them all.

Don't think that's his point although you're right of course. What seems to be the crux of the matter is that this game on Sunday will in some way interfere with or debase the celebrations on Saturday. Can't really understand the mentality that you need to get so smashed on Saturday that it stops you going to the game on Sunday but there you go.

I think this is a blatant conspiracy by the club as a "don't go on the pitch you will spoil our game tomorrow"

f*ck that, get on the pitch at the end, promotion first time since 1978

Never mind that what about Benali - he is another Mr Southampton through and through....

I guess that's a no Nicola?

Doesn't fit in due to the legal case on the house situation

Ah sorry, I won't bother questioning anything else on here again.

I hope Sunday is a real success, gets a full house and is a good day out for families etc, just not found anyone I know who fancies going yet even though its free.

guess there will be quite a few who do fancy it.

If you do then go, if not don't! Can't see any negative to this free game

Who were you expecting? Other than Le Tissier, most of the best ex-saints players are far too old.

.. and the others are still involved in premier league games. It may have been better to have held it back until after the season was completely over.

Why are they making i difficult to get tickets (no phone or interwebz)....surely allowing people to go on the day, old school turnstile fashion, will mean a decent crowd.... be surprised if there's 10,000 given that most people will be celebrating the day before and not too bothered about this

OS says you can order tickets online for collection at the ticket office - maybe it didn't before but it does now.

Looking forward to it. It will probably be a crap match, with dozens of substititions, but so what. I don't care if there is a point to this match or not, it'll be a fun day out for the kids & I'll get to see one or two legends (Niemi & Svensson at least). If the detractors aren't happy, sod 'em. Just stay away, no-one is putting a gun to your collective heads & forcing you to go. It's free, go and enjoy if you want, if not stay at home grumbling while your doing the gardening, or whatever you miserable gits will be doing.

You can now order online for pickup at the ticket office.

Oh great - so you can pick the free tickets up at the ticket office or order on line - well what about those of us with no internet or ability to get to the stadium? What do we do?

Posted

I can't believe some here are moaning about a free match, we really are turning into some of the biggest moaners in football. It's simple really, don't go, but that's not good enough for you winging gits, you have to come on here and attempt to spoil it for others. What's with some people ffs.

Behave you big mincer, no-one is "spoiling it for others" I genuinely hope you all have a cracking day there.

do the minority of posters on here sing the following at games

We only moan when we are losing

we only moan when we are winning

We only moan when we are moaning

Just a thought JRM and co

I'm assuming there's not going to be a strict formation as such, since there's currently three right backs and only two midfielders (well, three if you count Tessem, but that only leaves one striker!) Presumably more announcements to come...

Hell, it's going to be a long, football-less Summer so any excuse to get down to St. Mary's is a welcome one as far as I'm concerned. If people are concerned about it 'weakening' Saturday's celebrations that's just churlish. Nothing to say that you can't still go all-out - no doubt the current first team will be! It's a generous optional extra and nothing more.

I personally plan to use it as a bit of casual fun to take my mind off of the inevitable hangover monkey of 'King Kong' proportions that'll be residing on my head :D
