pedg Posted 3 May, 2011 Share Posted 3 May, 2011 Wonder if there has ever been a situation where so little is still to be decided on the final day of the season? Especially for the championship and league 1. As far as I can tell for those leagues the only possible (and feasible to discount us v Huddersfield) things to be decided are: Notts Forest v Leeds for the last play off place in the Championship. Though Forest have are 3 points ahead and a 6 better goal difference. Notts county, Walsall and Dagenham and Redbridge for the last relegation spot out of league 1. Plenty to play for in the NPC, QPR are going to get docked at least 10 points so they'll want to beat Leeds and hope Cardiff slip up again. We shall see Friday. I think the FA are walking something of a tightrope on this after the issues with West Ham and what they could open themselves up for if they do go for a points penalty. Still reckon they'll get -10 though.

If it can be proved that they did make something up to hide the true situation rather than make honest mistakes then I expect the book may well be propelled in their direction. Down to the strength of the FA case.
Chin Strain Posted 3 May, 2011 Share Posted 3 May, 2011 QPR will get deducted enough points so they finish 2nd IMHO. There will be all sorts of legal issues if the play offs are delayed. It's already tough on the team that goes up via the play offs because they've got a lot less time to get new signings on board. Norwich will start recruiting now (or at least speaking to players). Whoever goes up at Wembley will be a month behind. If it's delayed further then it impacts next season. If QPR start down the legal route, there will be injunctions and all sorts that will cause chaos. It still may end up in court if QPR finish 2nd, but the fight will be over the pot and won't impact anyone else.

I guess in that case it might be down to whoever finishes third as they might go to court to try and get QPR docked more points so they go up automatically. The problem for the FA is whatever they decide someone will probably have some cause to go to court about it.

Especially as docking them 9 would just look like a convenience solution because it's such an odd number. The standard penalty is 10 points, 15 for repeat offenders. Docking them 10 would leave it down to Saturday's matches with Cardiff needing a win to be automatically promoted.

Sure sky would be happy for them to be docked 10 points as would make their and Cardiff's matches a lot more important on the last day.

Lets face it they knew this was coming and yet they couldn't build up the 10 point buffer they probably need to go up automatically despite a deduction. Perhaps the stress of trying to get there was too much for them, hard to explain why they got turned over 4-1 by Sc*nthorpe otherwise.
