ladysaint Posted 3 May, 2011 Posted 3 May, 2011 (edited) Obviously yesterday is going to take some beating, but other than that what game and why. My choice would be either Bristol Rovers or Peteborough, both great results but also cracking days out. Worst would be Rochdale, what a trip and getting there about 15 minutes before ko only to lose 2-0 not even had time to sample the local drinking dens. Edited 3 May, 2011 by ladysaint
Appy Posted 3 May, 2011 Posted 3 May, 2011 Obviously yesterday is going to take some beating, but other than that what game and why. My choice would be either Bristol Rovers or Peteborough, both wins but also cracking days out. Worst would be Rochdale, what a trip and getting there about 15 minutes before ko only to lose 2-0 not even had time to sample the local drinking dens. We drew 4-4 at Peterborough. Best: Bournemouth or Orient, fantastic atmospheres, great wins and brilliant all round day out. Worst. Tranmere. Bar none.
LGTL Posted 3 May, 2011 Posted 3 May, 2011 Best - Bournemouth and Oldham Worst - None, enjoyed every one I went to this season.
bungle Posted 3 May, 2011 Posted 3 May, 2011 Best: Brighton Worst: Orient (non-footballing reasons) or Swindon (millions of police everywhere, rubbish town, rubbish pubs, rubbish game)
Reggie Dunlop Posted 3 May, 2011 Posted 3 May, 2011 Best - Exeter, we were so close to losing/drawing this match and then went and won very very late on. Worst - Wallsall, our hopes of promotion this season looked like a pipe dream after this defeat....what a difference now. (will add top social club that will be missed)
Durleyfos Posted 3 May, 2011 Posted 3 May, 2011 This is the first season in about 10 years where I've not been to any away games.
RedAndWhite91 Posted 3 May, 2011 Posted 3 May, 2011 Best: Oldham - Seeing your side score six is a rare opportunity and I'm glad I was there, even if I can't remember much of it. Said I wasn't going to drink but ended up having a bit of a session on the minibus up there. Still, was good. Bournemouth - Everything about the day, the drinking, the police escort, the banter, the shutting up of the team who want to be rivals, the celebrating down the front of the stand. Class. Brighton - Can't beat a good last gasp comeback, haven't celebrated a goal like I did for Fonte's before. Ended up going from the back of the stand to on the floor on the running track and I have two nice scars to remind me of that quality win. Yesterday was great in all but securing promotion. Worst: Walsall. Gash. MK Dons. Gash.
The Cat Posted 3 May, 2011 Posted 3 May, 2011 Best: Brighton, Bournemouth and Orient. Enjoyed my stay up North for the Sheff Wed game. Bristol Rovers was fun because while me and my mate were there enjoying our 4 goals, loads of our other friends were back at his house organising a surprise Birthday celebration which ended up a mini 3 day festival in his garden. Worst: Rochdale. Hideous drive and a lackluster performance.
JRM Posted 3 May, 2011 Posted 3 May, 2011 Best Oldham, Bournemouth, Brighton for me. Worst - Tranmere by an absolute mile, Rochdale was a good trip but poor game, MK Dons and Walsall both poor.
LGTL Posted 3 May, 2011 Posted 3 May, 2011 Can I make a suggestion already for the worst away game of next season? Coventry. Hate the ground, sh*t fans, in the middle of nowhere and we always seem to lose there.
Nexstar Posted 3 May, 2011 Posted 3 May, 2011 Best: Any from Oldham/Orient/Bompey/Brighton/Plymouth... Worst: Probably Yeovil for me, just an all round crap day. And it rained.
dickyhale Posted 3 May, 2011 Posted 3 May, 2011 Best Brentford, Daggers,Bompey and Orient also Plymouth Worst by a long way was M K Dons 15/9/11 my wife called me a selfish b@st@rd because it was are 7 year wedding anniversary (Adkins first game incharge) closely followed by Rochdale. That M6 was a nightmare. Left at 12 pm and arrived 7.50
View From The Top Posted 3 May, 2011 Posted 3 May, 2011 Best - Orient, Brentford & Plymouth Worst - Carlisle, Huddersfield & Tranmere with the latter topping the lot.
Footballfan Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 Best For Me Bournemouth,Orient, Brighton, Brentford & Plymouth 2 aways in a week end and 6 points fantastic. Worse Rochdale just.
Chez Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 Best: Orient, Brentford, Plymouth Worst: Huddersfield away. We played like chumps the previous season, so I expected better, but got more of the same and it was all our (Adkins if I'm honest) own fault
Turkish Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 Best Plymouth, Bournemouth, Orient Worst Wallsall, Huddersfield.
Dan Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 Managed to do 23/23 away games this year. Best atmospheres were Bournemouth, Brighton and Plymouth. Best games were Peterborough and Oldham. Best drink ups were Notts County, Sheff Wed and Hartlepool (a top night out in Newcastle). The worst Tranmere and Huddersfield. Didnt get to Huddersfields ground until 10 minutes before half time and had missed both of their goals. Complete waste of time.
bungle Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 Can I make a suggestion already for the worst away game of next season? Coventry. Hate the ground, sh*t fans, in the middle of nowhere and we always seem to lose there. I agree with this comment. It is possibly the worst away game ever. Although I have seen us draw there.
Lets B Avenue Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 Can I make a suggestion already for the worst away game of next season? Coventry. Hate the ground, sh*t fans, in the middle of nowhere and we always seem to lose there. Watford may run it close.
Chez Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 I agree with this comment. It is possibly the worst away game ever. Although I have seen us draw there. not been to their new ground yet so was looking forward to it. Ignorance was bliss.
saints-cris Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 Only the 1 away game this season for me annoyingly, made the lengthy trip to Sheff Wed, great day out.
West End Saint Posted 5 May, 2011 Posted 5 May, 2011 Brentford Bournemouth & Dagenham all great days out brilliant atmosphere I would say Brentford edge's it managed to get a beer in all 4 of the pubs round the ground great day out. Gutted regarding the plymouth game was in the Lyndhurst stand & got outed at half time so missed 2nd half it turned very nasty in there a fair few Saints fans took a right kicking (not us but we got spotted and pinged out) The worst Rochdale 6 & half hours to get there late shame as it is a very nice ground but it turned out to be a pants away day
Guest Dark Sotonic Mills Posted 5 May, 2011 Posted 5 May, 2011 Watford may run it close. Don't forget Leicester, another sh*t-awful city with crap pubs. And crap fans.
saint_jas Posted 5 May, 2011 Posted 5 May, 2011 3 away games for me and they were all good. Notts County, Peterborough and Plymouth.
RedWillie Posted 5 May, 2011 Posted 5 May, 2011 Best - Plymouth, nice beer in the pub and pasties on the way ! Worst - errr.... I only been to Plymouth !!
Sour Mash Posted 5 May, 2011 Posted 5 May, 2011 Watford may run it close. Watford? It's a far better away day than Coventry. Have to agree with Cov being dire. To be fair there are a fair few sh**e trips in the Championship.
NN2 Saint Posted 6 May, 2011 Posted 6 May, 2011 Rochdale went up their first of all and had to stop overnight as we already had accomadation booked altho FC United game was good place had no nightlife at all in evening. Second trip to Rochdale we arrived 5 minutes before kick off parking up and getting through turnstile at kick off. To be fair it would be harsh to comment on best away game been quite a few this season but i think special mention needs to go to Oldham, I actually quite like the place a decent ground 3 sides anyway Saints won both seasons and quite a decent pub which name I cant remember
fanimal Posted 6 May, 2011 Posted 6 May, 2011 Oldham was all round calm fluent professional bit of luck indulgent enjoyment; but Orient for the sheer overwhelming support/noise/day out! Worst - didnt see an away defeat this season, highly unusual, couldnt get on the bus for Rochdale!
Saint_Jonny Posted 8 May, 2011 Posted 8 May, 2011 Best has to be Oldham away, never saw it coming and it left me speechless through all the screaming, and I could get home in 10 minutes afterwards Worst has to be Rochdale away, I COULD see it coming, Saints played awful and the fans were ******* crap all game, at least I could get home in 20 minutes afterwards
Saint_Jonny Posted 8 May, 2011 Posted 8 May, 2011 Oh and special mention for Sheff Weds away, great performance and wicked atmosphere, went ballistic when Barney stuck his goal away!
oldsarum Posted 9 May, 2011 Posted 9 May, 2011 Best - Oldham away, closely followed by Brighton and Exeter two great comebacks to win at the death Worst - Tranmere a dire performance and Birkenhead is one place I'll not miss next season a really horrbile place, only other poor perfromances IMO Swindon and MK Dons
adelfas31 Posted 9 May, 2011 Posted 9 May, 2011 Best was Orient - hot and sunny, great atmosphere and a decent performance. Brighton, despite the action being so far away produced a great finish, and luckily it was down our end. Worst - Tranmere - again. As predictably awful as last year. Only thing of interest was to compare Jennings and Chambo on the same pitch and Jennings won that one on the day. Birkenhead is no loss to our schedule. I missed 1 away game. Which one? Oldham, of course...perhaps I ought to stay at home more often...
Bucks Saint Posted 10 May, 2011 Posted 10 May, 2011 Best - Oldham. Just a great honour to see your team away from home in the League, totally and utterly demolish the opposition with six different scorers from open play. That said I was not at Brighton.... Worst - Did not see us lose for once! So only Charlton really with a great turnout for a pretty poor game, ran out of beers at that sh*tty ground, conceding a late equaliser and an even later winner for us ruled out.
cryoman1965 Posted 10 May, 2011 Posted 10 May, 2011 Best-Orient, followed by Plymouth Worst- Charlton boxing day, all chipped in for a Limo only for the game to be called off when we were 3 miles from the ground, followed by charlton away rearranged when we conceded late, also walked into a lamp post on the way to the game near knocking myself out. (Too much strongbow)
Sour Mash Posted 11 May, 2011 Posted 11 May, 2011 (edited) As a slightly different slant, what are the best away days when the result was s**t? Or the worst away day when the result was decent? Stuff like Orient, Brighton, Plymouth, Oldham etc are always going to be highlights. For good away day despite the poor result, I'd say Huddersfield, I've actually enjoyed both my trips up there despite the dire results. One of the better northern towns we've visited, plenty of good pubs to crawl from between the station and the ground. For a rubbish away day despite a good result - Colchester. Been there twice now and haven't enjoyed either, pain in the @rse to get to, no atmosphere, struggle to find a decent pub, just a generally dull, uninteresting away day. Can't argue with anything you say above However Tranmere is still my worst on all levels result, day out everything as there are some decent pubs in Colchester if you know where to look On good trip side would add Hartlepool as I've enjoyed both of my trips there including this year despite 0-0 draw, miond you does help if you are staying up there overnight for lengthy away games like this one.
Evil Monkey Posted 11 May, 2011 Posted 11 May, 2011 Swindon was a good day despite the result (luckily I remember nothing of the game). Easy to find the ground, plenty of pubs on route and a night out in town when we got back.

Yeah, completely agree with Tranmere being the worst by quite a long way. Torn between never, ever wanting to go there ever again and wanting to go just one more time to exorcise a few demons, win 4-0, find a cracking pub, full of sound, decent locals, get great treatment from the local police and stewards...........who am I kidding, should know when to quit after 3 times there! Yep, would also agree with Hartlepool, did overnighters for both games up there and both were top trips. Same goes for Carlisle, really enjoyed both days up there, despite performances on the pitch being a bit "Hit and miss". For another one that I won't miss depsite a great result there is Plymouth, never massively enjoyed Exeter either or Yeovil for a midweeker, cr@p little town which made Hartlepool look like Las Vegas!
Sour Mash Posted 11 May, 2011 Posted 11 May, 2011 Swindon was a good day despite the result (luckily I remember nothing of the game). Easy to find the ground, plenty of pubs on route and a night out in town when we got back. Would disagree with you there, been to Swindon a fair few times now and hate the place! For another one where the result was s***te, but a place I'd be more than happy to go back to was Rochdale, some good pubs up there, decent locals, decent little ground, combined it with an overnighter in Manchester didn't do any harm either!
saintrich Posted 12 May, 2011 Posted 12 May, 2011 Best... hard to choose between Bristol Rovers, Brighton, Bournemouth, Brentford, Leyton Orient and Plymouth... all top days out followed by a win. Worst... probably Mk Dons
Andy_Porter Posted 12 May, 2011 Posted 12 May, 2011 Dagenham was immense, MK was ****e. Plymouth, Bournemouth, Brentford, Bristol Rovers etc where all brilliant as well.
fos Posted 12 May, 2011 Posted 12 May, 2011 Best - Charlton Away Worst - Charlton Away Mind you only went to one game - Sorry Jan!
ladysaint Posted 12 May, 2011 Author Posted 12 May, 2011 Best - Charlton Away Worst - Charlton Away Mind you only went to one game - Sorry Jan! Lightweight :-)
Kaiser Soze Posted 12 May, 2011 Posted 12 May, 2011 Best - Notts County Worst - Swindon Can't comment on too many though!
rolosfc Posted 16 May, 2011 Posted 16 May, 2011 This is the first season in about 10 years where I've not been to any away games. Same here due to work commitments and buying then doing up my first house, resulting in a lot less spare cash and spare time. Hopefully get to a lot more next season.
Jack Posted 18 May, 2011 Posted 18 May, 2011 I only got to 2 away games, poor show. Best - Sheffield Wednesday - good result early in the season when we weren't doing great, and we stayed up there and went out on the p155, pretty good night. Worst - Walsall. Everything about it was dire. Rubbish area, poor drinking options, awful result, worst home support I've ever seen, ****e ground.
