The Cat Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 For me, this is right. A defining MOMENT. A point in time that you remember the season by. For me it's FONTE SHIRTLESS IN FRONT OF THE SAINTS FANS AFTER HIS WINNER AT BRIGHTON. Do I win a coconut? Strangely that was also voted MOMENT of the season by the Brighton fans. They just can't help themselves when a man strips half naked in front of them, even if he is ex-Palace.
saint1977 Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 This, really happy I went to that game. Honestly thought a win could be the turning point. 1-0 vs Sheff Wednesday - got things started, boosted the morale and confidence and got us going under Adkins. Proved we had the mettle to grind out results like that away at the big teams 6-0 vs Oldham - showed just how good we could be when firing on all cylinders and genuinely showed that we were a class above the rest in this League 3-1 vs Bournemouth - going a goal down to your local rivals and coming back to win comfortably really showed that we could well go up automatically and not just settle for the playoffs 3-2 vs MK Dons - for obvious reasons 2-1 vs Brighton - ditto. Those I'd say were the most important/defining results of the season Agree with those very much but would also add 4-1 at home to Huddersfield which i) is the last time Hudds lost in the league so it was a key 3 points that day ii) a game like the Exeter one on New Year's Day where we played some superb football. I hope Chaplow's goal v Hudds makes the club's goal of the season shortlist because it crowned a lovely move. I'd also add Exeter away - Lambert's last gasp winner - which showed we COULD grind out a win away from home midweek on a ropey pitch.
david in sweden Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 3-2 MK Dons I would have said that game, too. If we don't recall Forte for anything else this season , then his "super-sub" appearance and 2 goals in 2 mins. gave us 3 points that very few people expected at the time.
Saint Garrett Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 Mk Dons (H) or Lallana signing a new contract and us not selling Oxo.
ladysaint Posted 4 May, 2011 Author Posted 4 May, 2011 See the Echo have nicked my question hope I get royalties and they havent even asked me to comment.
jam Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 Maybe more of a crucial rather than a defining moment but I'd agree with those who said the Huddersfield home win. More than any other game we would not get promotion without it.
rich saints Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 has to be bournemouth for me sunny day and saints go second. brighton next best game then it has to be plymouth which was just better than orient away
niceandfriendly Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 for me, the moment rickie lamberts free kick went in away at bournemouth. sort of knew we'd do it then, i've almost still got the bruises from that celebration to this day! Wasn't Lee Holmes the other one? sadly that might have been the high point of the season for those two players. i think holmes is correct but don't agree with the second comment. dickson has had a brilliant end to the season.
saints-cris Posted 4 May, 2011 Posted 4 May, 2011 Cant say any other than MK Dons. That turnaround gave us all the belief we needed, and showed that we had the strength to go up. In hindsight, I thought we'd go up after that win. Had we not won that, we might not have won the Brighton game, which was also HUGE. 2 incredible turnaround which had we not achieved we would be looking at the playoffs.
