Nigel Adkins - what a fantastic job

One thing every club needs to be successful is the manager and chairman work well together. Nicola and Nigel very much appear to, where as Pards never seemed to hit it off with him. Very impressed with Nige, playing Adkins buzzword bingo has got a bit boring but who cares. From his own bingo sheet "together as one", chairman, manager, coaching staff, players and fans - the manger is central in making this happen, not just about picking players and tactics (at that is hard enough) - so hats of to Nigel

Thought he deserves a thread of his own.

Picked us up after consecutive losses under the Wilkins stint and with squad morale at a season low, and turned us into a force that even Huddersfield couldn't stop.

Absolutely fantastic job and well done!

YES ....we all knew that promotion was ON ..from the time he entered the building ...

and Elvis (sorry Pardew)... left it !

WELL DONE NIGEL !!!!

Buying players is a collective effort from the scouting network at the club and the manager is just one person who has a say in it.

This is a valid point and I expect NC has a big say as well. Today, though, is a wonderful occasion and all credit to Nigel for the achievement and the determination not to get too excited until next Saturday at 5o'clock. I liked his generous (deserved) praise for Andy Crosby and Dean Wilkins too! Nigel is a Class Act; IMO.

Also credit to Nicola for going for him, albeit as second choice. I wasn't sure but he has been really good. Now buy early for next season. Good gap before Huddersfield go shopping.

I completely agree with the above. I was making reference to the assertion that we should judge Nigel on the strength of the players he signs next year and that Pardew was the messiah in the transfer market.

Well done to Adkins, what really impresses me is the mental toughness he has installed under massive pressure from the fans, club and an excellent Huddersfield. Rochdale was the last weak performance and to hit peak form at exactly the right time with the injuries we've had is a measure of Adkins's motivational powers. I also like the fact that he's prepared to change things if a plan isn't working. Feel sorry for Scunny, think they might have overhauled Palace with him still there.

He's done an incredible job, there's no question about that

However, at Scunny the only money he had in the Championship was to fight relegation, he never had a chequebook with expectations of mounting a promotion challenge.

The next 6 months will show what Adkins is made of

If he achieves another promotion, he'll enter the hall of fame

We wont be spending crazy amounts of money whatever anyone may think. The guys he have brought in so far have done very well so in Nige I trust. What a great job he has done.

Well done Nigel & thanks to Alan Pardew for the players you left. But Nigel you got everyone playing the way you wanted, you were able to change things tactically when needed. And you made the right changes at the right time on most of the occasions we needed it. How big was that decision against MK Dons now 2-0 down & almost out, but the right man at the right time turned it on its head in 2-mins. Maybe lucky, but its amazing how good managers do tend to get lucky or just make good solid decisions. I think he could go on to be a long term great manager for us, long may it continue.

Well done Nige .... you have proven to some of us "not too sures about him" that you are the real McCoy.

It's been a pleasure being on the bus and in the buiding and being all together as one. It's as simple as that really.

Actually it isn't that that simple at all.

I don't think that we have ever in all my life as a Saints fan ( over 40 odd years FFS) seen a run like the one we have had in the final hurdles of this season. Imagine 13 games ago someone saying how would you like 10 wins 1 DRAW and 2 losses - well lets face it you'd have snatched his arm off and had his babies BUT that 1 draw would have put us in 3rd place FFS!! I still have to pinch myself at that amazing run still only just sees us as all but certainties for promotion - how on earth must Hudds feel after being unbeaten in 24 games!!!

Great achievement, especially given what he took over back in September. How many of the usual doubts and worries we Saints supporters feel (we always do it the hard way, we're bound to screw it up, we're not playing well enough, etc) have been assuaged? All of them, and for me that says so much. Difficult, crucial games have been won - and mostly pretty comfortably too. He's got the best out of the players at his disposal; that's just what a manager is meant to do, and also what all too many don't do (or certainly haven't for us!).

Well done Nigel, great job. Now for the nPC (after a nice break of course!).

Markus and Nicola have given us a fantastic two years, it might get tougher next season but in Nige, Nicola unearthed a gem of a manager, an amazing appointment that had me underwhelmed at the time.

Whatever the reasons, his decision on Pardew has been fully vindicated, but let's not forget the quality of some of Pardew's signings as well.

In Nicola we trust.

Tonight is for celebrating so I won't launch a bitter attack on the likes of Ferguson junior and Poyet whose behaviour has been disgraceful, they could learn a lot about the game from Huddersfield who behind us have been the best football team since January - they should be okay through the playoffs.

In fact I would love to see Ferguson's little face when they get turned over at Old Trafford - his missus will be in trouble that night.

And what of Puncheon, he got on the wrong bus bigtime.

Bournemouth? Pay your bar bills, stop making up stories about your manager and learn some respect for your betters - then we might all get on again.

And finally the pompey fans who tried to tell me we were in big trouble, up to our ears in debt and up for sale last January - hope the Norwich fans don't ruin your pitch, if you still own it.

It is a fantastic time to be a Saint.

The future is so very red and white.

Join me for my birthday party at St Marys on saturday - all welcome.

Have to agree, heard who the manager whilst on holiday, and had misgivings about NA at the time. A couple of days latter, sat in a bar talking to the owner turned out he was a Scunny fan & whilst he was gutted to lose him he reassured me that he would be an excellent manager for us. He told me that he was clever tactically & very astute. I must say listening to him made me feel a whole lot better about it. And it has proved to be true.

Well done Nigel, you really have "taken care of business" in a most professional and dignified way since "entering the building".

Congrats too to NC for an inspired choice of manager at a time when many - myself included - doubted the timing of such a move and overlooking illuminaries such as Martin O'Neill.

Brilliant job, and a top guy. Let's let him know what we think of him next week. His job can't be underestimated, and I think he's used the squad brilliantly in the last few weeks. Let's hope he's with us for a long time.

The moment he was appointed I said he'd take us up and the only time I doubted that was after Brentford at home.

If people are to dumb to see that he's moulded players into a team that are more steely resolute than ANY other Saints team I can remember then they are even dumber than I thought.

Some 'kin idiots, posting on this thread, were so, so happy to slag him off and say how the players weren't playing for him and he'd lost the dressing room. C**ts the lot of them.

Thank you Nigel for the brilliant job you have down for us in managing a fine bunch of players that you have honed into a great team. You have instilled cameraderie, belief and unity of purpose into them and they do you and us great credit.

I've enjoyed watching the football played by this team in this division more than I could ever have suspected, because you got them playing entertaining, winning football.

But now it is time to move back up, towards where we should be and I have every confidence in your ability to take us up the next step too. And after the celebration party next Saturday, I look forward to your and our continuing success next season.

He has installed so much unity into this team and it shows. I know for a fact that each and every single one of them is on the **** at the moment together, and they are loving it whether they have played 1 game or 45 games, even Mr Cortese is loving it and joining in the fun.

It was great to see the likes of Barnard on the pitch celebrating with the rest of the team. Didn't see Chamberlain though.

Guly was on the far left dancing with Fonte and Jaidi - he was right in the middle of the celebrations, loving it. No doubt that's tinged with a bit of relief- his decision to come to England was a massive personal and professional gamble. Glad for him that its paying off.

85 points since you arrived, Nigel, an outstanding performance - bettered by no team in this league over forty games. Well done you, your staff and the players. This has been a great season because we're not used to winning so often - can anyone remember a season with so many wins and goals ? I can't, though some statistician may prove me wrong. I know we had a good season last year, but this one seems so much better somehow, not just because of (a probable) 2nd place.

I have faith that you will buy wisely during the close season and we will perform well. Promotion? I am not getting my hopes up, but I believe that we will match Leeds or Millwall's achievements this year and, with a little luck... who knows?

Ten years of saints supporting now, and today I am proud. Adkins has done a fantastic job, the confidence and resilience since he took over has been plain to see. Can't wait until saturday to celebrate with the players. Now lets see what we can do in the NPC.
