Plymouth V Saints 1-3 Promo Chat!

SOTONS EAST SIDE

Recommended Posts

Thank you Marcus that one was for you, great end to the 125th anniversary season. Fantastic feeling, not often I feel like this but never had any doubt today, Nigel had the team believing, & the feeling of invincibility was fantastic on this run in. The belief he instilled in the team & spirit generated has been awesome. You got the bus rolling Nigel & it became impossible to stop. Long may it continue. And NC you can wear your watch with pride on a job well done. WON IT FOR MARCUS God its good being a Saint tonight.

I reckon that the downward slope really started with failure to replace the injured M Svennson and the ageing Claus.as well as selling Bridge. It has been a long downwards slope until Marcus and NC came in. Last season stopped the rot and we even collected a trophy at Wembley. What a fantastic season this has been for Saints. Well Done to everybody who has contributed to the promotion effort! (Especially Nigel.) :-)

Strange game today and very strange being sat in the Lyndhurst stand (who was the nutter who went down to the front, turned round, stuck his arms out and started singing "We are going up" after we scored the third?).

First half was a little uncomfortable as Plymouth were fighting hard and made us battle and dig in. The wind was horrendous too which didn't help either side.

That cross from Butterfield and header from Lambert were absolutely key to giving us the mental upper hand at the start of the second half. We put in a great 5-10 minutes and Plymouth were a beaten team from then on in.

We have plenty of players in the squad who can do well next year and who, frankly, should not be playing as low as League One. If we can add one or two further quality signings then we should be aiming for promotion again.

Thank you Markus, thank you Nicola, well done Big Nige and well done to all the players. Party on Saturday!! :)

Thank you Markus; thank you Nicola; thank you Nigel & the coaching staff & thank you to the players who have been excellent since Nige arrived. Absolutely buzzing at the moment and can happily go on holiday at the end of may not giving a flying f**k about what's going on in the play-offs. To go from 22nd to 2nd & auto promotion is brilliant!

Funking brilliant!! Honestly thought we had blown it after the Tranmere game so to clinch 2nd is fantastic. Massive credit to Adkins who had the balls to drop down a division to manage us and gain his third promotion out of League One at a canter.

Thank you Saints for saving me a sleepless week and requiring a fingernail transplant.

Was wandering around Paultons Park with my mate and our families, the pair of us sharing an earpiece each to hear Rickie slot away the penalty!!

Looking forward to the party on Saturday; it's a hoot hoot!!!

Just got Eric away safely in a taxi - lol.

Demolished his stock of OSH during the game. Hollered & danced like a couple of kids when Rickie scored the first and sat and just felt GOOOOOOOOD while he demolished a reasonably priced Merlot with the GF afterwards while I stuck to the Tsing Tao.

Only downer? Sky News not having a sports section for 3 hours due to Osama so only seeing the goals thanks to Benji.

My God gang, doesn't it feel weird supporting a PROPER winning football team for a change!??!

Well done to everyone at SMS - Thankyou

The missus can't listen to the game for such an important match. So she went out with the kids whilst I stayed at home listening to the football. Left the message below with 5 mins to go on the garage door awaiting her return. Sat in the back garden wondering how I'd know when she got back home. Needn't have worried, the whole neighbourhood's windows caved in when she saw the sign. She didn't even drive up the driveway, left the car in the middle of the road with the kids wondering what was going on!

No, it was when we appointed Luggy instead of Hoddle.

Complete elation, what a day to be a Saints fan. All the sh!t we've had over the last couple of years, it feels like karma is coming back our way now! Bring on a huge party at Walsall and an exciting summer ahead afterwards!

just back. What total joy. First time I have seen us get promoted after 27 years of following us and it was a wonderful experience. Thanks to Alan for the last minute ticket. Thought we were professional again and on a different level to Plymouth who battled bravely especially at the start. We are a juggernaut that simply became unstoppable. The Bournemouth game kick started it and the MK Dons just took that unity to another level.

Davis 8 yet again caught well and kicked well. Promotion is great reward for sticking with us when West Ham beckoned.

Butterfield 9 very solid display

Jardi 10 Fallon is a tough opponent but Jaidi gave him nothing. The man MUST get a new deal.

Fonte 9 yet another marvalous display. That settled pairing is one of the main reasons we have gone up. Threw himself in front of stuff and battled hard

Dickson 7 given a tough time in the first half, but just about held his own. So glad he got his goal. It has been coming.

Chaplow 7 ran hard but with little impact. I'd of taken Stephens off though. Right midfield needs strengthening.

Hammond 8 strong showing for me. Worked his socks off and covered our attacking wide men very well. He is so improved on his first half of the season showings.

Stephens 5 did nothing at all in the first half. Ran harder in the second or was it just the change of boots that made him stand out a little more

Lallana 8 a great threat and didn't give the ball away. What a delight to see him in this side and great reward for him signing that deal. He could become a genuine legend here if he sticks around and takes us up.

Connelly 10 Outstanding display. He looked as good as he has ever done. Worked brilliantly with Lambert and was desperate to score. He clearly wants a new deal and on this display I would give it to him. SHarp, brilliant first touch, work rate, ability.

Lambert 9 All the good things. Link up play, headers, goals, defending...

Seaborne 6 solid cover at left back. I wouldn't want to see that very often though.

Morgan and Martin not on long enough. Great to see Schneiderlin back though.

Fans went mental today. Fair play to those brave enough to celebrate in the home end. It got quite hairy for a few. Hope the lad that had the whole stand trying to batter him is okay. Boy would I have hsit it if I had been in the same position.

Brilliant!

For me the key is that we have for the first time in many years, a TEAM, not just a bunch of footballers wearing the same shirt. The players have helped supported each other, squad players have come in and covered well when individual form has dipped. The team spirit has been magnificent and for that Nigel Adkins and the coaches deserve the credit.

Even so, this would not have been possible but for the shrewd judgement and courage of Nicola Cortese in changing managers at such a crucial stage of the season. And for him - thanks to Markus for his vision and enthusiasm; and to his family for their continuing commitment and belief.

In 5 minutes or so, Norwich could seal a second successive promotion with the core of a team that has stayed together for a couple of seasons. We weren't that far away from them in quality last season, so there's good reason to believe we can do the same. It'd be great to do it the same way and in the same place too!

And well done Norwich!

Its good to see such great team camaraderie through out the season.

To see all the team subs and other squad players hugging one another. Thats what has been missing from the saints in recent years

well done to every person at the club. its been a fab season.

A load of mates just text me saying they are partying with the saints team in staplewood car park! They are all absolutely battered, Lambert gave them Stella and Lallana got his knob out!

Loads of photos on Facebook (without Lallana's piece!) and Cortese joing in and going mental! Great scenes.

What a brilliant day!

First Bin Laden gets his just desserts at last and can now rot in hell.

Then we tie up our promotion and take a giant step back to the promised land.

And just to round things off nicely, the Skates lose to Norwich, handing them promotion too.

Norwich are living proof to us that it can be done in consecutive seasons. The last season they were down with us, we had the beating of them. We can get in one or two players to ensure that we can do as well as them next season.

I'm sure that Markus Liebherr watched our match today from his grandstand seat in heaven, that benevolent, avuncular smile lighting his face when the final whistle went. What a shame he wasn't there in person with his camera.

To all of those who posted their fears at the time of Pardew's dismissal that we had blown our chances of promotion, or even the play-offs, how stupid do you look now?

Bit unnecessary mate, come on, let's not have any sniping and infighting at such a great time for the club :)

Hope the youth lads put in a winning performance this Saturday, cos it sounds like the others will be too smashed to play!! :D

Well done to all at Southampton FC. The last 2 seasons have been great, long may it continue. Well done to Nigel Adkins, with a nod to Alan Pardew (whatever the reason for leaving, it should be remembered that the bulk of this team is his).

Thankyou to Nicola & Marcus, without whom none of this would have been possible.

Agree with this - Alan Pardew has been a significant contributor to this wonderful achievement - he set the foundations in place and Nigel, you have finished the job in great style

Great result, but it was hard to join in with the celebrations as we were sitting in with the Plymouth fans. Saints fans awesome - one really good slow rendition of OWTS, when the whole stand was singing in unison - it made my spine tingle.

Only downside was the wind, I was frozen by the end of the game!

BUT I'm so glad I went to this

game!
