SuperMikey Posted 9 May, 2011 Share Posted 9 May, 2011 Heard a rumour from a friend, not sure of his source, that we have signed Alan Smith from Newcastle. He's on astronomical wages at Newcastle, something close to £50k p/w, not to mention that he'd probably cost a couple of mil to start with. I sincerely doubt that Cortese would splash out anywhere near that much on a player whose best years are behind him. Not that he wouldn't be a good signing for us though, if he wants to come on loan! the scud Posted 9 May, 2011 Share Posted 9 May, 2011 My first signing would be Rob Earnshaw from Nottingham Forest on free transfer. The guy has pace and goals in him. Would be a perfect strike force in the Championship with him and Lambert up front with Barnard and Guly for back up. if Earnshaw signs new contract with Forest or joins another club, i will settle with other fowards such as Jordan Rhodes from Huddersfield again he can score goals and is still young. See no reason why we can't try and attempt Jay Rodriguez performed very well for Burnley this season worth a shout. For the CB signing to partner Fonte, i like the look of Paul McShane from Hull City? former Man Utd youth. Personally, think he is a very commited CB and will fight for every ball. Dont know if he is wanted by Hull atm as he spent few games on loan at Barnsley but still think he is a good solid CB and would be good partner with Fonte. Kyle Bartley from Arsenal will be a decent signing for a CB. Currently on loan at Rnagers but still a good young CB who can replace Jadhi. Andre Bikey is another CB which cdajfu strong player and would again be a perfect match for Fonte. We could always sign CB from Prem so Zat Knight from Bolton is worth a shout? Anton Ferdinand from Sunderland? maybe high wages but would be one of he best CB in the league next season? Other signings which i feel will be good are Marvin Emnes from Middlesbrough proven himself for Middlesbrough and Swansea this season. I know we have had people on here saying about Danns but what about his current team mate Ambrose? scores a fair few goals for Palace would be ideal in our squard tbh and is a good player to target for. Big difference between signing a young premier league not getting a game at their parent clubs like Jack Cork, Henry Lanzbury or Micheal Maccienne either permenantly or probably on loan and signing England international and player of the season Scott Parker who is wanted by Tottenham or Irish international goal keeper, Shay Given who was wanted by Arsenal and Man United a couple of seasons ago. shurlock Posted 9 May, 2011 Share Posted 9 May, 2011 There are alot of prem players who are in no-mans land - objectively they're nearing the end of their prem days but mentally they're not ready to drop down a division. They end up warming the bench somewhere, ignored and disinterested, and ultimately regret the decision instead of getting games with an upcoming team and going out on a high - there are loads of players in this bracket (John Carew would be fantastic); but its a tough, tough sell. Maybe Cortese is the chairman to pull off this kind of coup. By L1 standards, some of the players we have attracted in the past two seasons have been nigh-on incredible. I feel for the lad as he has some talent, but like another talented 'wreck' on Sunday - David Hughes, he just isn't physically capable of playing professional football. 13+10 sub in 3 years (& 5 of those were the first 5 games of his first season!) just isn't enough to justify a contract. However there does seem to be a glut of players coming to the end of their contracts this season. I guess there will be another fall out at the beginning of the season when Premier League teams name their 25-man squad paving the way for some decent loans. From Gemmel's list I'd love the following: Jlloyd Samuel Zoltan Gera Simon Cox Kazenga LuaLua Carlos Edwards Ferrie Bodde Darren Pratley Getting them is altogether a different matter though. True, though player for player our league 1 side was probably stronger than the one that got them promoted. In other words, we probably need less of a restructure (by no means am I underestimating the scale of the challenge).

With Anton Ferdinand (or did they mean Rio?) at the back and Owen up front with Lambert and Shay Given in goal we should expect to be able to win every game 10-0 next season. I'd also look at Carlton Cole with Robert Green as back up to Shay Given, they might be after a move if West Ham get relegated. David Bentley might be worth a look as well, clearly not wanted by Redknapp and not getting a game there, been farmed out to Birmingham on loan, surely he'd see us as a more attractive option. MerceSaint28 Posted 10 May, 2011 Share Posted 10 May, 2011 Okay having had a good long think about who is on the market an more to the point, who is realistic and would add quality to our squad, here are some suggestions Additions - Centre Back - one from Mancienne/ Kelvin Wilson/ Wes Morgan/ Matthew Mills/ Bikey/ Ashley Williams/ Emerson Boyce (assuming Wigan go down) Right Back - one from Nathanial Clyne/ Tyrone Mears Left Back - Ryan Bertrand (loan) Centre Mid - one from Marvin Elliott/ Neil Danns/ Darren Pratley (assuming Swansea don't go up)/ Jack Cork/ Hendry Thomas (assuming Wigan go down)/ Stephen Appiah (unattached ) Wingers - Dale Jennings/ Jimmy Kebe/ Chris Eagles/ Wade Elliott/ Victor Moses( assuming Wigan go down)/ Matt Phillips(assuming Blackpool go down)/ Max Gradel Strikers - one from James Vaughan/ CMS/ Steve Morrison/ Danny Graham I think realistically, we are going to need 5 or 6 players. Norwich only had 3/4 of their original starting team in league 1 in the champ and we need to keep improving the quality as well. My Choices First choice Ashley Williams Nathanial Clyne Darren Pratley Neil Danns Dale Jennings (good back up) Matt Phillips CMS
