Panic buying and **** or bust. Makes you wonder how these clubs, that publically come out and say ''We're hundreds of millions on debt'' are then allowed to table bids of 8m. They should be embargoed just for the comments they made. Makes a mockery of clubs trying to do it the right way.

That isn't what he says at all. He is just saying the Wednesday edition of the local paper (the Bristol Evening Post or EP) is running a story about a rumour that was in the national press on Tuesday. Doesn't mean he thinks the rumour is true or that he is "expecting a bid imminently".

EP lead tomorrow on rumoured 'fourth bid on its way' for Maynard, just like Mirror and Star ran today.

maynard is in the BC team photo which has been released today. Plus he was one of the players that modelled there new kit. if he had been in southampton to have medical or be in talks in the past few days then BC are unlikely to have published photos of him modeling the kit. its like lambert having talks with another club and saints publishing photos of him in new kit afterwards. just wouldnt happen. so as it stands my guess is that we are not in for maynard currently, but of course this may change.

Lita has all but signed for Swansea. Kind of hoped that he'd stay at Boro, because he is absolutely dreadful!!

 

He's not that bad, scored 15 odd goals for them last year. Mental signing for Swansea at up to £2m though.

 

Boro keep being made favourites, but they are loosing their best players...and only recruiting loans and frees.

Wouldnt be suprised if we offered Bristol City a cash plus players deal for Maynard.

They need a cb and lb so seaborne and mills as bait, obviously pending ur getting jemal or gorkks.

Not sure where i also seen where have made an offer for belgian striker jelle vollen from genk.

Maybe were waiting in the wings on a deal.

Jelle Vossen was mentioned on here earlier in the week as some kind of training ground rumour but I haven't seen it reported anywhere else. I guess the fact that we've signed de Ridder shows that we've been scouting the Belgian and Dutch leagues so it's not too far fetched. He would be a bit of a coup though and has been linked with Bolton and Fiorentina so probably a bit of a long shot. There's plenty up on YouTube that shows how good a player he is.

He kind of matches what we're trying to do though, young talented players that can be with us for a good few years - rather than old has beens.

 

TBH you could probably get him for less than £4m, which is cheaper than both Maynard and the asking price for Jerome - when you see the prices on those two, it kind of shows why we're having to shop abroad.

Absolutely and to be honest I'd much rather go for a player like Vossen than Jerome, Maynard or Sharp. The overseas market can be much cheaper and have more talent so it makes sense to exploit it. As you say, Vossen is exactly the type of player we could be looking at - would be nice to think there's something in it.

Works his socks off, is very strong, reasonably quick, powerful and could play with lambert or replace him if he got injured etc.

Would be a steal at just over 1m.

What sort of player is Vossen then ? Looking briefly at the youtube clip, he looks a poacher/goalscorer, perhaps in the Barnard mould but as an international for Belgium clearly greater potential.

 

A lot depends on eactly what we/NA thinks we need most, an out and out scorer such as Sharp or perhaps Vossen, or a pace merchant up front which is where most see Maynard would fit in.

 

As a thought though, are we so desperate for a striker to offer pace, now that de Ridder is taking a front seat "on the bus" ?

Because it is so very quiet reference us making signings and something is going to happen right out of the blue.

This will be the signing that will make others stand up and take notice.I think Adkins/Cortese are too shrewd to let other clubs around us,Leicester.West Ham,just to name two to steal the headlines with big named signings.

I think this grates on Cortese,and he feels duty bound to be up there competing.

 

All of our business is so very discreet that it gives me more encouragement than if we were splashed in the red tops bidding for all and sundry.

 

The wow factor coupled with the 'better watch Southampton next season,they could be up there" is something that the people at the helm thrive on.

We are not going to sit idly by and rest on our laurals.

 

Thes are not nesessarily just my own sentiments.Mr Cortese is a very diligant operator and is tireless when in business mode.

If we were not to secure the capture of Maynard i would not be surprised to hear substantialy on the subject, of our endevours, at a later date.

Not been keeping tabs on recent rumours regarding other teams, but apparently Leicester are targeting Beckham in January & West Ham had a bid of 7m rejected for Shane Long.

 

Good to see our rivals being financially prudent ;)

I'll disagree not on stats but on the fact that he is utter turd. Think many Championship fans will tell you how over rated he is.

 

Have you watched him play week in week out?? I have and anyone who thinks he is utter turd is a moron. In fact most people that tell me he is crap are Sheffield Wednesday fans, who will use anything (in this instance, goals scored) to take the **** out of the Blades.

 

People we're raving about CMS. Evans is exactly that kind of player but younger, quicker and more powerful.

Exactly. I am actually glad we arent splashing the cash. West Ham said they would need tens of millions of pounds in loans just to survive if they got relegated from the Prem but now they are spending millions on players again. Makes you think they are gambling on promotion.

 

Leicester on the other hand don't actually have a rich owner in football terms. He is only worth £113m and one of the poorest owners in the league. If strikes me that he is there to makes some money by getting them promoted and selling on (especially after watching dispatches). Therefore if they don't go up I think he may run.

I really do have a feeling that they will miss out on promotion this year, probably getting beat in the play-off semi's, which will result in them entering admin.

 

I may be wrong though.

The transfer of Tunisian defender, Ammar Jemal from Bsc Young-Boys to Southampton is potentially in serious doubt as it has been confirmed this morning that Southampton's application for a work permit has been rejected by HM Revenue and Customs.

The club will now decide whether to appeal against the decision

 

Now surely it's The Home Office that are responsible for work permits not HMRC!!!
