I agree, but the rumblings are he'll end up with Celtic

he certainly won't be leaving brum for a NPC side.

Alex Smithies pushing Bart and Kelvin

Sean St Ledger in the middle with Fonte - Martin & Seabourne for the future

Nigel Reo-Coker or Jack Cork or both! To push morgan and chaplow - hammond could be surplus to requriements...

Michail Antonio - interchangable with oxo

Anthony Pilkington - ditto lallana

Robert Earnshaw - different dimension to what we already have

Plus a decent right back. Havn't figured that out yet...

Just how big a squad do you think we need? Most of them signed as bench warmers by your ratings. According to you that give us

3 goal keepers

5 Centre halves

4 full backs + a new right back you want

4 wide midfielders

6 central midfielders

6 strikers

Plus any youngsters coming through. FFS

You missed out on the whole Reo-Coker to "push" Morgan and Chaplow. As if he wouldn't stroll right in front of those two in the pecking order!

Saints will only bring in players capable of playing in the premier league. There is no point in giving decent contracts to players that wont be good enough as and when we go up.

Honestly the majority of players named on this thread and forum are unrealistic and well wide of the mark.

The most likely to sign imho will be Peltier, Ward, and CMS. Those of you who think Hammond is the weak link in midfield need to look again

And I think that would be a good haul. Shows our ambition, brings in players with massive potential and who are able to play in the Premiership most likely.

I see the loons are taking over the asylum..

To who ever said we will only sign premier league players.. Are you actually having a laugh?

West ham did that with nolan and he is on what?? £50k a week???

Dear Christ.

I've seen England international Matthew Upson mentioned on here today as a possible signing, good news if true. Our spine will be much stronger with him and Scott Parker in it.

It is harder and harder to sign players who are in the Premiership now because of ego's and money. These players are almost impossible to get nowadays in the Championship especially if we are (as it seems) careful on wages.

NOt for us, we are the most attractive side for a player in the country outside of the top 4 and have been since our league 1 days.

Real Madrid are open to offers for Ronaldo aswell, we have the cash and the ambition.

He will surely take the step down to NPC because of where we are going.

Obviously he won't cut it in this league, the same as torres.

Looking at the fixture list we're gonna need a few good signings!

Completely agree. I knew who had been promoted and relegated but had no idea we would have to play all the teams in the division twice. That is just mental!

Okay here are the players I want for us this season. Realistic and I think would really push us on

Pearce from Bournemouth approximate 750k- natural leader, young and would be excellent alongside fonte

Peltier from Huddersfield approximate 1 mill - quality rb with pace, power and also can be play in a variety of positions

Danns from Palace on a free - will be tough to sign as rangers and Celtic want him but is a quality box to box player, 8 goals from mid last season and would be perfect alongside Morgan

Jennings from tranmere approximate 1-1.5 mill - excellent prospect and can play either wing, would be tough to sign as he is wanted by many teams but this is where nicola can earn his corn

Emmanuel ledesma on a free - some would say this is bizarre but he is a quality player who has lost his way. He was outstanding against saints and can play anywhere in midfield. Excellent squad player, low wage, there is no down side just plenty of up side.

Sam Baldock for approximate 900k - cracking busy little striker. He is fast, hard working and technically excellent, as well as being young. Would work very effectively amongst our strikers and provide competition for places

Overall I think that would be an ideal window for me, thoughts???

like that...all players who are hungry and something to prove

Agreed I was going to say add Pilkington to the list if we lost Alex, if we kept him I think those signings might be enough.

But there would be no silly wages there and hungry players who I think would make us a play off team.

What no Scott Parker, Shay Given and Matthew Upson?

According to the mighty Wiki Ledesma is in talks with us at the moment, i dont know much about him but looking at his career history seems to have problems settling anywhere and has been loaned out a fair bit. However he's young, on a free and QPR fans seemed to like him when he was there so clearly has something about him.

I like the look of your list though, with the exception of Danns all good young players who will be hungry so would fit the bill of building a good young team. I'm a big fan of Pearce & Baldock, Peterborough are in for them both i believe. Jennings is a cracking young player who would be a great signing.

Pearce - ex-skate....

Peltier - good shout although Leicester seem in prime position to nab him

Danns - is he a box to box player ? I've always seen him as more creative in the last third of the pitch, good when his team have already won possession and are playing well , but might go 'missing' too easily (bit of a 'fancy danns' really)

Jennings- off to Bayern I thought

Baldock - possibly a good option, but don't know much about him

Pilkington - definitely

Plus;

A new GK to make the haul with us to the Prem

On the CB issue I really would like to see Martin get a run before we spend too much here, I suspect he might be forced elsewhere to prove himself and we will end up regreting it. IF we have to spend here then Hobbs would be a better option in my view, but already likely to go to Hull.

Tom Cruise has been released by Arsenal as well. Surely he'd be a Top Gun at championship level? He'd certainly be able to give some sound advice to The Firm with big clashes against Pompey, Millwall and Cardiff ahead. Although scouts at Arsenal often reported that he appeared to play matches with his Eyes Wide Shut, judging by his heading and tackling ability.

if used alongside morgan would give an interesting cocktail in midfield, can't help thinking would be risky business to sign someone so unproven

Possibly, what we really need is to sign a few good men, then promtion wont appear to be mission impossible.

That's over £4m in fees, without taking into acount agent's fees, signing on fees etc... I think that would be an excellent summer (assuming no one leaves).

Pass on all of these - quantity rather than quality, and some are totally unrealistic. On the whole, they don't add much to a squad which after all featured five players in the L1 team of the season.

Baldock? a cracking busy little striker? Technically excellent? Looks pretty lightweight to me.

Peltier's OK but no way worth £1. I would expect more than just pace and power for a RB and someone who knows how to defend before they go on the attack (has lacked composure on the ball whenever I've seen him play and believes in the Lloyd James philosophy of crossing ball from everywhere and anywhere + he dives in too much)

Ledsma - would just be another body in the building - we have enough players who can play upfront or in the hole e.g. Lallana, Guly, Lambert etc. And guess what they're all better.

Pearce is OK, though Bompey were hardly noted for their defensive meanness, always vulnerable to the long ball and setpiece. Certainly Pearce was one of their more resilient defenders; but remember the object of the exercise which is to bring in somebody with Jaidi-like qualitie. We already have Seaborne and Martin who tick the young CB box; CB is definitely one position where experience is worth something.

Danns - as I've said before, I don't understand why people have latched onto him as some kind of magic, missing part (is it the hair, with people picturing him as some kind of livewire, english version edgar davids? who the f**k knows). I wouldn't say no; but I've seen him a number of times and he's a case of perspiration rather than inspiration; busy without being hugely productive. There are a number of midfielders who CDAJFU and have more years in front of them.

Jennings - not seen enough of the kid to form an opinion; but him joinging us is no more realistic than some of prem players that some have fantasised about. In our dreams.

After adding up fees etc for this list, I'd rather have 2-3 quality NPC players.

He was one of a few players I genuinely thought "oh f*ck", when he got the ball against us last season. I was drunk for most of it though.

Haha, fair enough. He did score a decent goal.

Ishmael Miller on loan for the season from West Brom would be a quality signing IMO!

He has pace, power, skill and an eye for goal. All attributes which can only be of benefit to us!

Careful what you wish for - I don't often repeat rumours from football-rumours.co.uk but this one was hysterical. It suggested we were looking to sign Kevin Poole as a player / coach. Well, he's only 47 so must have a couple of years left in him. Apparently he covers his near post really well.....

Despite what some of you clueless wallies think (i mean you Shurlock)

Looks like the top 10 teams are all fighting over the best players....interesting to see what Nicola is prepared to do...

I'm not really bothered about getting Peltier tbh, I reckon DB and FR are more than capable right backs at NPC level

Maynard or Sharp + Ambrose + a CB with NPC experience = Quality summer in my book.

I'd also like to see us pick up a few talented young players from europe.

can we compete with Bayern Munich?

They have offered £500,000 up front and a cut of any future sale

Yep, for sure. I just highlighted European youngsters because I think it would show that the club is really serious about building a team for the future, 'Barcelona style', and that our European scouting network is as strong as we all hope it to be.

Jennings would be great, but I think if he moved to the NPC he'd want to be a first choice winger, can we offer him that with Lallana and Chamberlain in the side? I suppose it would mean we could rotate AOC and DJ for what will be a long, hard season on young legs. Then again, as Chez says, it looks like he could be headed to Bayern anyway, which makes these musings completely pointless!

Leicester City have today reached an agreement with Huddersfield Town for the transfer of defender Lee Peltier for an undisclosed fee.

The 24-year-old right-back has agreed terms on a three-year contract with the Foxes and will become City boss Sven-Goran Eriksson's first new signing of the summer, once his registration is completed on Wednesday morning.

A dynamic, attacking full-back blessed with great speed and sound defensive instincts, Peltier heads to Filbert Way after two seasons with the Terriers, with whom he reached the League 1 play-off final this past season.
