Colinjb Posted 3 June, 2011 Posted 3 June, 2011 He's a proper centre-half, him. He'd be a really good signing for Saints. He stormed the Boscombe Player of the Year awards. Wayy too expensive, must be one of those 1 mill+ players they've been stashing down there. That Eddie Mitchell, he's a shrewd one.
JackFrost Posted 3 June, 2011 Posted 3 June, 2011 (edited) Giovani dos Santos scored a brace for Mexico today, did well at Ipswich and not really in thoughts of spurs? He'd want absurd wages. He's on 35k a week at the moment supposedly. Expect Pompey to unveil him as one of their new signings in a few weeks Edited 3 June, 2011 by JackFrost
jjsaint Posted 3 June, 2011 Posted 3 June, 2011 I would say YES for Marlon Harewood, YES for that Ingimarsson bloke at Reading (released today) who would play alongside Fonte, YES to Jack Cork, NO to Michael Owen .... MAYBE for Lionel Messi ... Ingimarsson was, possibly is still a great player, but spends a lot of time out injured. Messi is absolute rubbish.
Wade Garrett Posted 3 June, 2011 Posted 3 June, 2011 Will Swansea still want Ryan Harley now that they are in the Premier?
Smirking_Saint Posted 3 June, 2011 Posted 3 June, 2011 Peterborough in talks with Jason Pearce - worth a bid? Definately, I thought he looked very good and committed in the playoff games, can play a little, loves a tackle and good in the air, what a brilliant understudy he would be for Jaidi
Wade Garrett Posted 3 June, 2011 Posted 3 June, 2011 Definately, I thought he looked very good and committed in the playoff games, can play a little, loves a tackle and good in the air, what a brilliant understudy he would be for Jaidi We've got understudies for Jaidi already. I would only be looking for players that will improve our first XI.
Smirking_Saint Posted 3 June, 2011 Posted 3 June, 2011 We've got understudies for Jaidi already. I would only be looking for players that will improve our first XI. I would pose an arguement that Pearce has the ability to improve our first 11, but TBF I do agree with you, especially at the price that Pearce is likely to cost it would be more prudent to sign players as an improvement. I was very impressed with Pearce however, thought that he looked very good. Seaborne IMO isn't as bad as many people think but is still not good enough for the level we want to be at, Martin has looked good at points, but he hasn't played enough to prove himself IMO. What about Evatt from Blackpool ?
MerceSaint28 Posted 3 June, 2011 Posted 3 June, 2011 Centre Back i beleive will be one of the positions we upgrade. i beleive Jaidi was given a new deal as cover as he and Fonte have an excellent relationship. Seabourne should be allowed to leave, he is a third tier player and probably Pardew's only average signing as everyone else seemed to be a success. I think Pierce would be a good signing. Meite on a free is also worth thinking about. Cork would be a very astute signing also, i would be very happy with that. I would love Danns as well as he can play wide right if needed....i do think Hammond may have to be a high profile casualty, he is decent but we can get better and we can't afford to be sentimental. I would love Ebanks Blake up top too. We need a pacy striker and he is physical too. Rumours are that he is available for about a million, Millwall interested too
Gemmel Posted 3 June, 2011 Posted 3 June, 2011 Saints in battle with pompey for Howard http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/pompey/pompey-past/great-matches/pompey_set_for_battle_with_rivals_for_howard_1_2737754
Crab Lungs Posted 3 June, 2011 Posted 3 June, 2011 Saints in battle with pompey for Howard http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/pompey/pompey-past/great-matches/pompey_set_for_battle_with_rivals_for_howard_1_2737754 I hope you post this on the Takeover thread... and who is 'Frattonman'? He's come up with some corkers; Lets not forget that scummers have a nice little debt to pay of 26m and rising. and Well the midfields getting sorted so now we need players upfront who can score maybe Shane Long and Jimmy Kebe. and it appears his mate 'Scumstomper' is equally afflicted Well the midfields getting sorted so now we need players upfront who can score maybe Shane Long and Jimmy Kebe. .... and I really don't think Brian Howard would go there, especially if we're in for him. In fact, why don't we just ask Brian himself?
The Majestic Channon Posted 4 June, 2011 Posted 4 June, 2011 I hope we don't buy pearce, Eddie small time mitchell has just realised the skates will get 50% of any fee they might get for pearce..
saint lard Posted 4 June, 2011 Posted 4 June, 2011 Howard keen on skates?..... http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/pompey/pompey-past/great-matches/midfielder_keen_on_pompey_move_1_2742632

Weren't we told "to come and get me" last March as well? Perhaps that's just my interpretation of Derry's sales pitch though.
Crazy Diamond Posted 5 June, 2011 Posted 5 June, 2011 I've just read that a scout of ours has had contact with a kid called Ian Goh, a 'semi-pro footballer at ChelseaFC Soccer School (HK) / Hong Kong Football Club U-15'. He tweeted an hour ago "Got in touch with some of the USA scouts likes of New York Red Bull,Seattle Sounders and LAGalaxy!!! Hopefully able to join 1 :)", before adding... "Also scouts from Europe!! Southampton FC, FC Mainz, Bordeux, FC Kaiserslautern!!!". Just thought I'd mention it! If true, good to see this worldwide recruitment lark is in action.
Clifford Nelson Posted 6 June, 2011 Posted 6 June, 2011 Howard might well want to finish his career on his home turf, but don't make the mistake of believing that he is a supporter of either club. His heart is in Glasgow, with Rangers, believe it or not.
S-Clarke Posted 6 June, 2011 Posted 6 June, 2011 Brighton have signed Will Buckley from Watford for £1m - v highly rated. Obviously a straight replacement for Bennett

beatlesaint Posted 7 June, 2011 Posted 7 June, 2011 when do we get to the date that alpine goes into meltdown cos we haven't signed anyone yet ? How lonmg have we got ? :-)
S-Clarke Posted 7 June, 2011 Posted 7 June, 2011 when do we get to the date that alpine goes into meltdown cos we haven't signed anyone yet ? How lonmg have we got ? :-) another couple of days I reckon. TBF we might be one of the most active teams around with bids in for everyone, but we'd never know because they act in the correct way when doing the deal.
NickG Posted 7 June, 2011 Posted 7 June, 2011 Peterborough in talks with Jason Pearce - worth a bid? appears to hit problem as skates refusing to write off the sell on clause (50%). Why should they? Mitchell is a tool.

SuperSAINT Posted 7 June, 2011 Posted 7 June, 2011 Gotta love Hull. Damn good signing if it comes off http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11688_6969239,00.html
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 7 June, 2011 Posted 7 June, 2011 Any idea when pre-season training starts? Would be good to have any new faces in by then so everyone starts off from the same point and we can hit the ground running from the off.

Pat from Poole Posted 7 June, 2011 Posted 7 June, 2011 Becasue the skates wrote off their debts to everyone else! That's a very good point. I believe Cheats FC sold Pearce to Boscombe in 2007, well before their financial problems hit big time. Why should they be allowed to continue to reap the benefit of a sell-on clause following administration? (I expect somebody to now say that we benefited from a sell-on clause after going into administration ourselves - Leon Best maybe?)
SuperSAINT Posted 7 June, 2011 Posted 7 June, 2011 No suprise that one. For some reason Sven didn't rate him and Pearson had him on loan up there last season. 800k is a snip though Yup. Quality manager in Pearson. Signs Fryatt up front, Hobbs as centre-back, and in talks with Danns for play-maker. Nice team he's building there.

Would be good to have any new faces in by then so everyone starts off from the same point and we can hit the ground running from the off. Swiss tour started on the 10th July last season so around that time I guess. We had Richardson and Dickson by then, but Butterfield signed the week after. Guly came in on the 23rd August.

Gingeletiss Posted 7 June, 2011 Posted 7 June, 2011 Alan Smith released by Newcastle, CHDAJFU for a couple of seasons?

S-Clarke Posted 7 June, 2011 Posted 7 June, 2011 Alan Smith released by Newcastle, CHDAJFU for a couple of seasons? He'd be good, but would probably want 30k +
70's Mike Posted 7 June, 2011 Posted 7 June, 2011 Alan Smith released by Newcastle, CHDAJFU for a couple of seasons? Totally agree Headlines Smith gets new lease of life on South Coast as he drives Saints back to Premiership
Chez Posted 7 June, 2011 Posted 7 June, 2011 think Dickson was first?? He was signed 14 June. sure was, no doubt that deal (and the Richardson one) was done months before. Not so sure deals will have been done this time round as we were unsure what league we were going to be in and a few transfers probably depend on players (Gobern and Puncheon) leaving.
Chez Posted 7 June, 2011 Posted 7 June, 2011 Alan Smith released by Newcastle, CHDAJFU for a couple of seasons? loved his desire when at Leeds and he can play a bit too. Has he forgotten how to play up front I wonder?
saints-cris Posted 9 June, 2011 Posted 9 June, 2011 He'd also have to go back to being a striker, as whenever I've seen him in midfield he's been ****. He just isnt a midfielder.. just coz hes tenacious doesnt mean he'll be good there, never really got why Fergie put him there. He made his name as a striker, thats where he should play tbh.

SNSUN Posted 9 June, 2011 Posted 9 June, 2011 but what about the football brain.? this is the single most important factor I think Antony Pulis Jr has earned a suprisingly large amount of footballing cash without a footballing brain, and he doesn't have Usain's pace to boot! :-) I also think we could use Paula Radcliffe's stamina, Jonathon Edwards' ability to jump over tackles, and even Ronnie O'Sullivan's ability to put that white ball where he wants it.
EBS1980 Posted 10 June, 2011 Posted 10 June, 2011 Considering Peterboro accepted at least one bid from a premiership team for CMS, wonder why he hasn't moved yet? Hoping for a better premiership team to come in? Club lost/about to lose their manager?
Glasgow_Saint Posted 10 June, 2011 Posted 10 June, 2011 If Bolt was even a very average footballer, that pace would be an amazing asset. Be funny to see someone give him a try. Is he Forte quick?
S-Clarke Posted 10 June, 2011 Posted 10 June, 2011 Considering Peterboro accepted at least one bid from a premiership team for CMS, wonder why he hasn't moved yet? Hoping for a better premiership team to come in? Club lost/about to lose their manager? Barry fry said that he's weighing up all his options, as he has half a dozen clubs in for him.
Pat from Poole Posted 10 June, 2011 Posted 10 June, 2011 Barry fry said that he's weighing up all his options, as he has half a dozen clubs in for him. The managerial situation at Wigan may be having an impact. There is absolutely zilch chance of CMS coming to Saints, we shouldn't be worrying about him.
The Fat Controller Posted 11 June, 2011 Posted 11 June, 2011 Were more likely get Yakubu...ok ex skate but scored a few last season
Chez Posted 11 June, 2011 Posted 11 June, 2011 Were more likely get Yakubu...ok ex skate but scored a few last season knows where the net is, buynplease not another lazy striker who stands around waiting for chances to fall for him on a plate. Stern John was bad enough...
