labibs Posted 27 May, 2011 Posted 27 May, 2011 £2.5m?! Isn't he out of contract? Why not just make him an offer and let it go to tribunal? Madness. Anyway, might make some on here realise that players from the premier league who are any good will have existing prem clubs after them this summer. They are unlikely to come to a club in the NPC.
MerceSaint28 Posted 27 May, 2011 Posted 27 May, 2011 Interesting....Looks like CMS is up for grabs then. I always thought if Norwich went up, they would look for a striker with Prem experience and shelve CMS. Excellent hopefully we can now steel in. Just for the record, CMS told his club he is leaving whether they are promoted or not Lambert and CMS up front with Barnard and Connolly on the bench...lovely

SuperSAINT Posted 27 May, 2011 Posted 27 May, 2011 Norwich want Morison too? http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11688_6954655,00.html
Windmill Arm 2 Posted 27 May, 2011 Posted 27 May, 2011 For me, the jury is out on whether CM-S could cut it in the NPC, but I wouldn't turn my nose up if we signed him. However, I would bet that whoever we sign, they wont have been mentioned on these 18 pages of wild (and in some cases ridiculous) guesses.

CMS scored a few goals in the NPC with Posh the season before last, about 11 or 12 if I recall correctly, got to go down as proven at that level then, which is more than you can say for either Lambert or Barnard for the time being.

sfc4prem Posted 27 May, 2011 Posted 27 May, 2011 If we got CMS i'd be chuffed. He's like Barnard but with much more pace. I'll never forget seeing him burst past Seaborne, who was miles ahead of him at the time, and slot the ball past Davis.
Saint Stimp Posted 27 May, 2011 Posted 27 May, 2011 Villa have released some pretty decent players http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/13572464.stm, wouldn't mind signing Isaiah Osbourne.
Nexstar Posted 27 May, 2011 Posted 27 May, 2011 Carew= unrealistic? Yeah, wouldn't be surprised if Stoke signed him permanently
shurlock Posted 27 May, 2011 Posted 27 May, 2011 Yeah, wouldn't be surprised if Stoke signed him permanently Sounds like he's surplus to requirements at Stoke, though a return to Europe is probably more likely than a drop-down to the NPC. http://www.thisisstaffordshire.co.uk/sport/Stoke-City-Faye-way-Carew-follow/article-3592635-detail/article.html
Pilchards Posted 27 May, 2011 Posted 27 May, 2011 If you watch CMS as I have done a few times recently then you will know that he always gets himself in great positions. He would be a fantastic signing for us BUT I fear that a asking price of 2M will offer you a no return in 2 years as he would be in his 30's.

saints-cris Posted 27 May, 2011 Posted 27 May, 2011 Id imagine CMS is deffo up for grabs now, as Vaughan has gone to Norwich for definate now.. vaughany14 James Vaughan by skysports_bryan So happy 2 have signed 4 norwich! Great opportunity for me and I'm really looking forward 2 it!

farawaysaint Posted 27 May, 2011 Posted 27 May, 2011 FFS why are there such high prices being quoted for CMS isn't he out of contract? Can anyone explain?
NickG Posted 27 May, 2011 Posted 27 May, 2011 FFS why are there such high prices being quoted for CMS isn't he out of contract? Can anyone explain? think he has year left. Silly (too high) prices were January window when teams are desperate
revolution saint Posted 27 May, 2011 Posted 27 May, 2011 If you watch CMS as I have done a few times recently then you will know that he always gets himself in great positions. He would be a fantastic signing for us BUT I fear that a asking price of 2M will offer you a no return in 2 years as he would be in his 30's. Realistically CMS will probably only be getting offers from championship clubs. Prem clubs might consider him but I doubt it. I reckon we should be able to compete with any championship club so if he's judging a club on it's ambition then we should be fine. The asking price of 2M is what P'boro want but I doubt they'll get it - they've got a player with one year left on his contract who has said he's leaving and so has Barry Fry and they won't be in too much of a strong position to haggle. 1.5M tops would get him and maybe a fair bit less than that. Question is do we still want him? I'd be happy with that signing but I'd not be moaning if we didn't - out of all the realistic targets Jack Cork could prove to be the most important and influential (if it happened).

Would have thought we could spend £2m better.

I think the plan is that in two years we will be in the Prem so writing off a player,if necessary, at £2m cost to get there would be considered a reasonable investment.
hypochondriac Posted 27 May, 2011 Posted 27 May, 2011 You don't buy players in order to get a good return off them.
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 27 May, 2011 Posted 27 May, 2011 http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12876_6954952,00.html David Jones from Wolves CDAJFU as a centre mid, IMO. Turned down a new contract so on a free.
Pilchards Posted 27 May, 2011 Posted 27 May, 2011 You don't buy players in order to get a good return off them. Of course you do! The only time we never did that was in the Big Mac days.
hypochondriac Posted 27 May, 2011 Posted 27 May, 2011 Of course you do! The only time we never did that was in the Big Mac days. We sell players yes, but we don't buy them so we can make a profit by selling them.
NickG Posted 27 May, 2011 Posted 27 May, 2011 You don't buy players in order to get a good return off them. of course that come hugely into prices clubs pay -resale value.
Bailey Posted 27 May, 2011 Posted 27 May, 2011 Reo Coker unlikely but possible. Do you genuinely believe it's possible? Reo-Coker is wanted by some of Europe's top clubs, he WILL NOT drop down a division to play for Saints! Come on guys, be realistic!
Bailey Posted 27 May, 2011 Posted 27 May, 2011 Sign the following: Joe Murphy Jack Cork Anthony Pilkington Craig Mackail-Smith Somehow ship out Forecast, try and sell Holmes if there's interest, and let Stephens and N'Guessan go back to their parent clubs. Retain the likes of Fonté, Chamberlain and Lallana, and that would be just about the perfect summer IMO.
Rebel Posted 27 May, 2011 Posted 27 May, 2011 Dale Stephens has already gone back to Oldham and N'Guessan to Leicester
SuperSAINT Posted 27 May, 2011 Posted 27 May, 2011 Dale Stephens has already gone back to Oldham and N'Guessan to Leicester Hopefully the rest of Bailey's wish-list will come true as well then

As for Pilkington I agreethat Saints aside he was probably the player with most potential in L1 but I doubt he we could sign him for some time owing to his injury as we would be unlikely to get insurance clearance on any player carrying his injury.
Saint Charlie Posted 27 May, 2011 Posted 27 May, 2011 Abdolaye Faye has been released by Stoke - he would be class alongside Fonte.
Badger Posted 27 May, 2011 Posted 27 May, 2011 Abdolaye Faye has been released by Stoke - he would be class alongside Fonte. Age 33. Isn't he a former skate ? A Stoke player that might be usefulif released is Tonge in MF.
rooney Posted 28 May, 2011 Posted 28 May, 2011 Jack Cork would be a great addition to the squad. He is young but experienced in the Championship. He knows the club and we know what he can do.I would have thought too, that like Fonte, he can see outside the box and the potential there is at SMS. Besides, as a southerner, I am sure he would rather be down here in the sun than stay at the likes of Burnley in the rain. I do not think he will ever get into the Chelsea side whilst Abromovich is spending.
Chez Posted 28 May, 2011 Posted 28 May, 2011 (edited) Age 33. Isn't he a former skate ? A Stoke player that might be usefulif released is Tonge in MF. That was Amdy Faye (who I wouldn't touch with yours), Abdolaye came from Newcastle, previously Bolton. Edited 28 May, 2011 by Chez

Thedelldays Posted 28 May, 2011 Posted 28 May, 2011 Nigel Reo-Coker has just been released from Villa. Would be a great choice and completely unrealistic fffs
Turkish Posted 28 May, 2011 Posted 28 May, 2011 and completely unrealistic fffs He'd make a great central midfield partnership with Scott Parker.
Thedelldays Posted 28 May, 2011 Posted 28 May, 2011 He'd make a great central midfield partnership with Scott Parker. seriously... what is wrong with some of our fans when they suggest such players..? why do they do it....?

SNSUN Posted 28 May, 2011 Posted 28 May, 2011 Agree. But it is the summer Truth. They don't call it silly season without due reason. Which reminds me, if Rooney says he hates the pressures of the spotlight at Man Utd and wants to move down south where the "decent supporters" are. I assumed he meant most of the United fanbase, but HCDAJFU.
Loyal Saint Posted 28 May, 2011 Posted 28 May, 2011 Just had a quick look on that football rumours site for the first time and my word we are going to be busy. Here’s just a few of the players you can expect to see in the famous red & white soon: Alan Smith, James Beattie, George Boyd, CMS, Neil Danns, Nathaniel Clyne, Giles Barnes, Jimmy Bullard, Surman, Brian Howard, David Jones- Wolves, Scott Sinclair, Chris Burke, Jack Cork, Vokes & Kightly on loan from Wolves, Norris, Nugent, Lukas Juktiewitz, Puncheon/ Matt Phillips swop deal, Martin Waghorn- Leicester, Marlon Harewood, Junior Stanislas loan from West Ham, Kevin Phillips (unlikely but wife loves the area) So there you go. Must be at least one that’s correct out of that lot.....

Would love Puncheon and Phillips to swap, only heard good things about Phillips, but ultimately I'd do anything to get rid of fat bum. ...and Surman and Jutkiewicz are supposed Saints fans, that'd be cool. A team of Saints fans - can it be done? :-)
Right sider Posted 28 May, 2011 Posted 28 May, 2011 Lee Bowyer would be a fantastic acquisition, would give the midfield a bite and some experience. Would be a guiding light for the team. Would his wages be unrealistic?
