labibs Posted 23 May, 2011 Posted 23 May, 2011 because we are southampton, we'll do what we want.. Good point. I hadn't considered that...
skintsaint Posted 23 May, 2011 Posted 23 May, 2011 what that Macheda striker upto these days? worth a loan shot?
Turkish Posted 23 May, 2011 Posted 23 May, 2011 If he's happy to be in the championship, he'll stay where he is. But I'd imagine many prem clubs will bid for him. Liverpool were linked with him a few months ago, i'd put him alongside Scott Parker, Shay Given & Michael Owen in the "maybe" pile.
S-Clarke Posted 23 May, 2011 Posted 23 May, 2011 what that Macheda striker upto these days? worth a loan shot? I think he went to Italy on a loan, may be wrong though.
NickG Posted 23 May, 2011 Posted 23 May, 2011 Kev Philips has contract offer from club to help get them back to prem
shurlock Posted 23 May, 2011 Posted 23 May, 2011 I think he went to Italy on a loan, may be wrong though. Went to sampdoria who've just been relegated. Has had a frustrating time.
S-Clarke Posted 23 May, 2011 Posted 23 May, 2011 Kev Philips has contract offer from club to help get them back to prem I reckon west ham. I can't see him ever coming back here.
saintscottofthenortham Posted 23 May, 2011 Posted 23 May, 2011 Kev Philips has contract offer from club to help get them back to prem No he doesn't. He is going to leave his options open.
NickG Posted 23 May, 2011 Posted 23 May, 2011 Sorry for short previous posts. Kevin Philips has contract offer to help a team get back to premiership - not sure how many ex=prem sides in championship at mo, but it doesn't include B'ham, guess unlikely to be WHU as without manager

Crab Lungs Posted 23 May, 2011 Posted 23 May, 2011 Reckon Phillips will end up down the road. So that's be Norris (£25k) and Phillips (£20k)...
LeBenali Posted 23 May, 2011 Posted 23 May, 2011 Scott McDonald spotted in Southampton according to Kris Temple? Back visiting one of his former haunting grounds, or is there something more to it?
Fowllyd Posted 23 May, 2011 Posted 23 May, 2011 Scott McDonald spotted in Southampton according to Kris Temple? Back visiting one of his former haunting grounds, or is there something more to it? Are we looking for a Martin Peters type of player who'll ghost in and out of the game then?
revolution saint Posted 23 May, 2011 Posted 23 May, 2011 Not sure what he's like now but Scott McDonald certainly didn't lack any pace when he was younger. I'm not sure about his attitude either (but then no one on here is) but if Strachan signed him twice then it can't be too bad. I'd be happy if we did sign him.
Kelly Smunt Posted 24 May, 2011 Posted 24 May, 2011 Having not played much for Fulham this season maybe Jonathon Greening could be looking for first team football next season. I rate him and think that he'd definitely improve us in the middle of the park.
K,Billy's supersound Posted 24 May, 2011 Posted 24 May, 2011 would love chris brunt here but will end up in the prem i'm sure. wonder if gary hooper would like to reunite with adkins and play football in a proper league i think he could do well for us.
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 24 May, 2011 Posted 24 May, 2011 wonder if gary hooper would like to reunite with adkins and play football in a proper league i think he could do well for us. No chance he'll leave Celtic for us. He certainly cdajfu though!
Rebel Posted 24 May, 2011 Posted 24 May, 2011 Phillips Senderos at Fulham would be a good shout. He's hardly played since sigining for them - and has just come back from injury. You could see Fulham loaning him out to get match fitness and put him in the shop window. Plus there's the Swiss connection. Reto Ziegler is also available on a free transfer from Sampdoria at the moment. But in all honesty it's very unlikely that we will sign players from Premier League teams if they are still in contract as their wages would be a major stumbling block. Even journeymen players in the premiership are on £20K per week or upwards of that. Unless its on a loan and a % of the players wages are paid by the parent club as part of the deal. And if that's the case we are probably only talking about young players loaned out to get experience. Excepting players like Matt Phillips at Blackpool who could be a real possibility due to their very low wages. But then Blackpool have always been a Championship club out of their league! There are probably some current premier league players on free tranfsers that might settle for a signing on fee and lower wages though. But I'm not sure Michael Owen would fit in to that category!
CWD Posted 24 May, 2011 Posted 24 May, 2011 Just seen that Andy Reid is out of contract at Blackpool. HCDAJFU
Stattmeister Posted 24 May, 2011 Posted 24 May, 2011 That Pogba lad from Manure looks a player. Not sure if we'd get him, but worth a punt, no? Especially if there are any legs in the AOC talk.
SuperMikey Posted 24 May, 2011 Posted 24 May, 2011 That Pogba lad from Manure looks a player. Not sure if we'd get him, but worth a punt, no? Especially if there are any legs in the AOC talk. His brother Mathias plays for Wrexham. Big lad, strong and quick. Still pretty raw, but I reckon he'd be a good player in the future.
Jimmy_D Posted 24 May, 2011 Posted 24 May, 2011 I'm still intrigued as to our type of signing. In League 1 we went out and signed the League 1 Allstars. Was that a one off? I don't want another rebuild of course, but a similar style of buying either top Championship players or lower Premier League players would be great. Do we have the funds? MLG still bangs on about it as if we do, but I don't see training ground expenditure as necessarily meaning we'll spend on players. I'll still be really surprised if we spend £2m on a player to be honest. Expecting undiclosed fees and free transfers from lower championship clubs and maybe some more from League 1 like Glen Murray. Very interested to see who comes from Serie A though. It was ridiculous being able to sign Waigo and Guly, so in the Championship, who knows. That's a good point. Serie A might be a good place for us to spot potential targets we're going for.

Think the league 1 all-star policy would still work to a partial degree. CMS & Pilkington would both easily do a job in the championship (although would probably both cost a fortune) I'm curious to see what business we do, as well. The last few season's have always left us with clear, defined gaps in the squad. This year, we've got cover for every position, so I would imagine (and hope) that we'll be signing players that would walk straight into the first XI. Edited 24 May, 2011 by SuperSAINT
shurlock Posted 24 May, 2011 Posted 24 May, 2011 Zenden mentioned on the rumours thread would be a great shout.
saintfully Posted 24 May, 2011 Posted 24 May, 2011 Zenden mentioned on the rumours thread would be a great shout. Actually this would be great... actually quite exciting if true. Imagine Zenden linking with Lallalana and Oxo!!!! Nice.
NickG Posted 24 May, 2011 Posted 24 May, 2011 Thanks. Seems to have been in prem for years - signed for Chelsea in 2001
shurlock Posted 24 May, 2011 Posted 24 May, 2011 (edited) Despite being offered an extension, wants regular games and will go where they are offered -an admirable quality. Most Sunderland think he's been criminally underused by Bruce and are desparate for him to stay: http://www.readytogo.net/smb/showthread.php?t=594428 Good article on what he can still offer: http://www.sunderlandecho.com/sport/sunderland-afc/chris-young-column/zend_of_the_line_sunderland_will_miss_their_dutch_master_1_3407657 Edited 24 May, 2011 by shurlock add link
Crab Lungs Posted 24 May, 2011 Posted 24 May, 2011 I wonder if Zenden could play a more withdrawn role? Or will we just have an older Schneiderlin on our hands?
Matthew Le God Posted 24 May, 2011 Posted 24 May, 2011 how old is he? Been around for ever 34. Thanks. Seems to have been in prem for years - signed for Chelsea in 2001 Having a conversation with yourself Nick. First sign of madness?
shurlock Posted 24 May, 2011 Posted 24 May, 2011 I wonder if Zenden could play a more withdrawn role? Or will we just have an older Schneiderlin on our hands? Supposedly, even at his age, still got a decent engine on him - is a midfielder with goals who could play alongside either Hammond or Schneiderlin in a more advanced position.
SuperSAINT Posted 24 May, 2011 Posted 24 May, 2011 Zenden would be a class apart in the championship. He'd be on some pretty hefty money up there, though.
sfc4prem Posted 24 May, 2011 Posted 24 May, 2011 Zenden?!? That would be unreal! Wasn't he captain for Sunderland against West Ham? Scored, too. He'd be a quality acquisition and would be a real "statement of intent", to roll out an old cliche.
shurlock Posted 24 May, 2011 Posted 24 May, 2011 Doesn't seem to be any substance to that rumour, like most the others though. True but it doesn't sound as unrealistic as some of the others.
Jimmy Gabriel's Halo Posted 24 May, 2011 Posted 24 May, 2011 Having a conversation with yourself Nick. First sign of madness? No, you're OK talking to yourself - I do it all the time. It's when you actually start to argue with yourseld that you're in trouble... ;-)

You must be in a little bit of trouble if you do that!
SaintJackoInHurworth Posted 24 May, 2011 Posted 24 May, 2011 manners cost nothing. Manners? He has only played 8 times for Bloxham FC this season scoring 2 goals. Surely signing a player of Barrie's quality is aiming a bit low? How do you know he is on a free anyway?!!!!!!!! http://www.pitchero.com/clubs/bloxhamfc/s/players-coaches-9006.html&player_id=205653
pingwing Posted 24 May, 2011 Posted 24 May, 2011 Would love to see us sign Matt Derbyshire. A million to get him out of Olympiakos could well go down as one of the best signings we could make. From what I understand he'd basically be a better Barnard, just really needed a decent run out in the Brum squad which never happened thanks to only playing one striker most the season.
Gordon Mockles Posted 24 May, 2011 Posted 24 May, 2011 Nick asked a question, answered it and then thanked himself for answering it. You must be in a little bit of trouble if you do that! LMAO That is worryingly mental! LOL
the saint in winchester Posted 24 May, 2011 Posted 24 May, 2011 Matt Derbyshire - I like this idea. Any way we can float this onto the bus? I'd love the bones off him if he hopped on for the ride.
