If he's happy to be in the championship, he'll stay where he is. But I'd imagine many prem clubs will bid for him.

Liverpool were linked with him a few months ago, i'd put him alongside Scott Parker, Shay Given & Michael Owen in the "maybe" pile.

Sorry for short previous posts.

Kevin Philips has contract offer to help a team get back to premiership - not sure how many ex=prem sides in championship at mo, but it doesn't include B'ham, guess unlikely to be WHU as without manager

Probably more than half current champ clubs have been in the prem

West Ham don't need a manager to sign players :)

Scott McDonald spotted in Southampton according to Kris Temple? Back visiting one of his former haunting grounds, or is there something more to it?

Are we looking for a Martin Peters type of player who'll ghost in and out of the game then? :D

Not sure what he's like now but Scott McDonald certainly didn't lack any pace when he was younger. I'm not sure about his attitude either (but then no one on here is) but if Strachan signed him twice then it can't be too bad. I'd be happy if we did sign him.

Having not played much for Fulham this season maybe Jonathon Greening could be looking for first team football next season. I rate him and think that he'd definitely improve us in the middle of the park.

Phillips Senderos at Fulham would be a good shout. He's hardly played since sigining for them - and has just come back from injury. You could see Fulham loaning him out to get match fitness and put him in the shop window. Plus there's the Swiss connection.

Reto Ziegler is also available on a free transfer from Sampdoria at the moment.

But in all honesty it's very unlikely that we will sign players from Premier League teams if they are still in contract as their wages would be a major stumbling block. Even journeymen players in the premiership are on £20K per week or upwards of that.

Unless its on a loan and a % of the players wages are paid by the parent club as part of the deal. And if that's the case we are probably only talking about young players loaned out to get experience.

Excepting players like Matt Phillips at Blackpool who could be a real possibility due to their very low wages. But then Blackpool have always been a Championship club out of their league!

There are probably some current premier league players on free tranfsers that might settle for a signing on fee and lower wages though. But I'm not sure Michael Owen would fit in to that category!

That Pogba lad from Manure looks a player. Not sure if we'd get him, but worth a punt, no? Especially if there are any legs in the AOC talk.

His brother Mathias plays for Wrexham. Big lad, strong and quick. Still pretty raw, but I reckon he'd be a good player in the future.

I'm still intrigued as to our type of signing.

In League 1 we went out and signed the League 1 Allstars. Was that a one off? I don't want another rebuild of course, but a similar style of buying either top Championship players or lower Premier League players would be great. Do we have the funds? MLG still bangs on about it as if we do, but I don't see training ground expenditure as necessarily meaning we'll spend on players.

I'll still be really surprised if we spend £2m on a player to be honest. Expecting undiclosed fees and free transfers from lower championship clubs and maybe some more from League 1 like Glen Murray. Very interested to see who comes from Serie A though. It was ridiculous being able to sign Waigo and Guly, so in the Championship, who knows.

That's a good point.

Serie A might be a good place for us to spot potential targets we're going for.

Great point. Think the league 1 all-star policy would still work to a partial degree. CMS & Pilkington would both easily do a job in the championship (although would probably both cost a fortune)

I'm curious to see what business we do, as well. The last few season's have always left us with clear, defined gaps in the squad. This year, we've got cover for every position, so I would imagine (and hope) that we'll be signing players that would walk straight into the first XI.

Zenden mentioned on the rumours thread would be a great shout.

Actually this would be great... actually quite exciting if true. Imagine Zenden linking with Lallalana and Oxo!!!! Nice.

Despite being offered an extension, wants regular games and will go where they are offered -an admirable quality. Most Sunderland think he's been criminally underused by Bruce and are desparate for him to stay:

Good article on what he can still offer:

I wonder if Zenden could play a more withdrawn role? Or will we just have an older Schneiderlin on our hands?

Supposedly, even at his age, still got a decent engine on him - is a midfielder with goals who could play alongside either Hammond or Schneiderlin in a more advanced position.

Zenden?!? That would be unreal! Wasn't he captain for Sunderland against West Ham? Scored, too. He'd be a quality acquisition and would be a real "statement of intent", to roll out an old cliche.

Doesn't seem to be any substance to that rumour, like most the others though.

True but it doesn't sound as unrealistic as some of the others.

No' date=' you're OK talking to yourself - I do it all the time. It's when you actually start to [b']argue[/b] with yourseld that you're in trouble... ;-)

Nick asked a question, answered it and then thanked himself for answering it. You must be in a little bit of trouble if you do that! :D

Would love to see us sign Matt Derbyshire.

A million to get him out of Olympiakos could well go down as one of the best signings we could make. From what I understand he'd basically be a better Barnard, just really needed a decent run out in the Brum squad which never happened thanks to only playing one striker most the season.
