Rocker268 Posted 20 October, 2008 Posted 20 October, 2008 If you were in charge of team selection for Shef Utd what would you do to change the line up formation tactics etc. For me it would be to include John Skacel and Perry (or is he injured one loan I've forgotten) and then Euell if he is ready yet, with Killer on the Bench to maintain his fitness but have him there just incase I would drop McGoldrick and start a 4-4-2 with Pehhart and John upfront then Skacel probably playing left wing back as it was clear on Saturday that the ratio of experience - youth in defence needs a complete turn around with 3 experienced players to at the most 1 younger player. If you wanted to keep the more attacking options you can have 2 midfielders central and the 2 on the wing playing inbetween them and the strikers. I have a fairly naive view of where players can play but where would others put people in an attempt to change our fortunes without removing Lowe/Wilde or bring in any loan players?
TopGun Posted 20 October, 2008 Posted 20 October, 2008 If I was the manager I would request that my hands be untied so that I could pick any player I wanted.
Saint_clark Posted 20 October, 2008 Posted 20 October, 2008 --------Davis James Perry Cork Mills ----Wotton Gasmi Smith--Lallana---Surman -------John But of course, McGoldrick has a "must play if fit" clause*, so this will not be correct. *(IMO).
Saints Noog Posted 20 October, 2008 Posted 20 October, 2008 How anyone can think Stern John or Thomas Pekhart are good players is beyond me!
SaintDonkey Posted 20 October, 2008 Posted 20 October, 2008 Assuming Perry's fit... -----------Davis Cork---Perry---Lancashire---Mills ------Wotton Thomson------Surman----Smith -----------Lallana --------John
Saint_clark Posted 20 October, 2008 Posted 20 October, 2008 How anyone can think Stern John or Thomas Pekhart are good players is beyond me! 19 goals last season with no creative midfielder?
slickmick Posted 20 October, 2008 Posted 20 October, 2008 How anyone can think Stern John or Thomas Pekhart are good players is beyond me! Maybe not, but better than DMG. Stern can strike a ball cleanly and score the odd long range goal. He also holds the ball up well. DMG cant strike a ball without scuffing it, cant hold a ball up to give the rest of the team time to get up field to support and as for being able to score from long range, I wont even go there. Pekhart would in my opinion be useful at set pieces (both defending and attacking) with his height. Another option is to have a look at the lad in reserve, is it Jamie White?

The Fat Controller Posted 20 October, 2008 Posted 20 October, 2008 I'd try and get Chris Baird in on a months loan and even though not a popular move possibly Primus as well
slickmick Posted 20 October, 2008 Posted 20 October, 2008 I'd try and get Chris Baird in on a months loan and even though not a popular move possibly Primus as well Me too, but for longer than a month.
Alanh Posted 20 October, 2008 Posted 20 October, 2008 I think the first thing to address is to stop us conceding goals so we need to sort out the defence. We need a specialist experienced right back to replace James as after 11 games it is now clear that he is a weak link in the back line. Also this would address the imbalance of experience in the defence as 3 kids in their first season with one experienced player to help them is not going to work. They need more support to learn from during games. Mills can probably play 50% or so of games at LB with Surman covering the rest. The call to get Chris Baird in for as long as we can afford is a good one. If it were possible it should make a huge difference to our ability to defend.
70's Mike Posted 20 October, 2008 Posted 20 October, 2008 slash my wrists , because it does not matter how much you shuffle the players, some are just not good enough
chocco boxo Posted 20 October, 2008 Posted 20 October, 2008 i would go scouting on Saturdays so i would not have to watch that shower of ****ee
trousers Posted 20 October, 2008 Posted 20 October, 2008 I would dust off MLT's registration forms and hope for another 2 penalties each game from here on in.
krissyboy31 Posted 20 October, 2008 Posted 20 October, 2008 I'd try and get Chris Baird in on a months loan and even though not a popular move possibly Primus as well I wouldn't, I'd be getting a big fook off centre half like "Big Dave" Darren Moore and a decent right back.
70's Mike Posted 20 October, 2008 Posted 20 October, 2008 Davis Cork Perry Svensson Surman Thomson Lallana Schneiderlin Skacel Saga John Guess I'm dreaming there, but it's potentially a very good team. it is but where is the physical strength, watching the Sheffield derby we just lack physical players to compete
bungle Posted 20 October, 2008 Posted 20 October, 2008 Davis Cork Perry Lancashire Mills Wotton Gillett BWP Lallana DMG John
70's Mike Posted 20 October, 2008 Posted 20 October, 2008 Well cork is more physical than james I think, svensson and perry add more than lancashire and wotton, schneiderlin adds more than any midfielder we have, and saga, although small, is a tough player. Not that it matters as most of them won't play anyway. We either need a new right back, or a strong defensive midfielder to play with schneiderlin, moving cork to right back. Agreed with all your comparisons but they are internal, we do not match up well with other CCC teams. Maybe the ball should go away at training for a week and the weights come out

DT Posted 20 October, 2008 Posted 20 October, 2008 Get a decent keeper in on loan, pay appearance fees so Skacel can play, stick Cork in the middle alongside Perry, and ask Wootton to shield the centre halves, with Gillett alongside him and Surman on the left. Drop McGoldrick on the grounds that he is utter garbage.

teamsaint Posted 20 October, 2008 Posted 20 October, 2008 easy back four Cork Wotton Perry Skacel We wil probably lose but getting a setled and half decent defence is TOP priority,
DT Posted 20 October, 2008 Posted 20 October, 2008 are you some sort of mong DT? Kelvin Davis has been our best player Watch the crosses and note where he stands. Nowhere near the ball. It's all very well doing the odd 'camera save' but if you can't do the basics your defence is lost.

It's all very well doing the odd 'camera save' but if you can't do the basics your defence is lost. Whilst i believe KD has been our best player this season, his biggest weakness is his height or lack of it. Since he arrived at SMS we have been open at corners, long throws and other set plays
apdsaint Posted 20 October, 2008 Posted 20 October, 2008 Davis Thomas Cork Perry Surman Wotton Lallana Schneiderlin Skacel Saga John
The Saturday Boy Posted 20 October, 2008 Posted 20 October, 2008 If Jan sticks to the normal formation and since Smith is out injured, I hope it will look something like this - Davis Cork Perry Lancashire Surman Gillett Wotton Lallana BWP Skacel John
saintrich Posted 20 October, 2008 Posted 20 October, 2008 Davis Thomas Cork Perry Surman Wotton Lallana Schneiderlin Skacel Saga John Thomas is injured. Saganowski is on loan to Aalborg. Skacel is not match fit.
saintrich Posted 20 October, 2008 Posted 20 October, 2008 I want us to line up as: Kelvin Davis Jack Cork Chris Perry Oliver Lancashire Joseph Mills Paul Wotton Simon Gillett Adam Lallana Andrew Surman Ryan Smith (injured?) if not then BWP Stern John Subs: Bartosz Bialkowski, Lloyd James, Morgan Schneiderlin, Tomas Pekhart, David McGoldrick. Unfortunately this won't happen... James, Pekhart and McGoldrick, will probably play in place of Perry, Gillett and John.
Long Shot Posted 20 October, 2008 Posted 20 October, 2008 If I was the manager I would request that my hands be untied so that I could pick any player I wanted. Quite
mprobert Posted 20 October, 2008 Posted 20 October, 2008 Skacel is not match fit. These words..... "Skacel" and...... "match fit" have rarely been heard together.
krissyboy31 Posted 20 October, 2008 Posted 20 October, 2008 These words..... "Skacel" and...... "match fit" have rarely been heard together. I fail to see how he can ever get match fit if he is never picked for either the Reserves or the First Team.
Andy_Porter Posted 20 October, 2008 Posted 20 October, 2008 Depending on fitness I'd probable go with something like: Davis Mills Perry Lancashire Cork Surman Schneiderlin Wotton Lallana John McGoldrick Subs: Bart, Gillett, James, Smith, Pekhart The 4-2-3-1 formation isn't working so well at the moment and since Holmes' got injured it hasn't worked at all so a 4-4-2 needs to be tried imo.
Stu Man Do Posted 20 October, 2008 Posted 20 October, 2008 How anyone can think Stern John or Thomas Pekhart are good players is beyond me! Yep Stern Johns 19 goals last season really do prove he is ****e! Some people on this site are mentalists same with Rasiak ffs so he doesnt run around like a loon ... does alot of good for DMG or in previous times Brett Oremergod :-p IMO you have to have skacel, John and Euell (when hes fit) in the team they arent the most amazing players we've ever had but they can deal with this division easily. Priority for me is a left and right back and if possible a CB on loan. Id be more inclined to use Robertson with Stern John and see how that goes or ... heaven forbid bring back Saga as he seemed to play well with SJ.
qwertySFC Posted 20 October, 2008 Posted 20 October, 2008 i would go scouting on Saturdays so i would not have to watch that shower of ****ee Dib Dib Dib.......
AndyNorthernSaints Posted 20 October, 2008 Posted 20 October, 2008 Davis Cork, Perry, Lancashire, Surman Lallana, Schiederlin, Gillet, Skacel John, Pekhart subs Forcast BWP Wotton McGoldrick Robertson (not sure if he is allowed to play?) if not then White.
CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 20 October, 2008 Posted 20 October, 2008 (edited) I note with interest and some alarm most of you are including Paul Wotton somewhere in your preferred squads :smt091 . As a midfielder surly for the love of God , Schneiderlin , Skacel , Gillett , Surman , Cork , even bloody Jason Mule are all far better players than the Plymouth Ploughhorse will ever be . Anyone including him as a Centre Back must clearly be suffering from some chronic delusional condition so advanced that I fear there's no hope for you ! Edited 20 October, 2008 by CHAPEL END CHARLIE
Charlie2008 Posted 20 October, 2008 Posted 20 October, 2008 Drop McGoldrick on the grounds that he is utter garbage. You could be onto something there...
rocknrollman no2 Posted 20 October, 2008 Posted 20 October, 2008 I cant believe none of you have suggested bringing in a rugby coach and building an eye dome. Then perhaps we can bolster our team by signing a player who has a broken foot and a player whos own dad wont even play him. Theres nothing to this footy malarky.
L1Minus10 Posted 20 October, 2008 Posted 20 October, 2008 --------------Davis ---Cork------Perry------Lancashire-----Surman ---Lallana----Wotton-----James--------Skacel ---------------John-------Pekhart
Alain Perrin Posted 20 October, 2008 Posted 20 October, 2008 Sad isn't it really. No one has mentioned the opposition. That's the problem with fan line ups, they are based on favorites, not on the players they seek to counteract. If Morgan/Euell weren't injured I'd play one of them in CM instead of Cork and play Cork at right back. I'd stick with Wotten at CB to counteract Beattie's strength and Lancashire to counteract Sharp's pace. As it is I think he'll stay broadly as is (options are limited) but I agree that RB is a problem for us defensively.
Isla Wight Posted 20 October, 2008 Posted 20 October, 2008 The more that I look at the names of our squad the more depressed I get. At the start of the season I felt the usual optimism. However - just a few games in and all the usual feelings of dread returned. It's gonna be a long hard season ahead.

alpine_saint Posted 20 October, 2008 Posted 20 October, 2008 Euell and Schneiderlin are not fit So f**king what ? Lowe and JP wouldnt play that team if they were fit anyway. Besides, you've just posted that they are playing for the ressies this week.
NickG Posted 20 October, 2008 Posted 20 October, 2008 So f**king what ? Lowe and JP wouldnt play that team if they were fit anyway. Besides, you've just posted that they are playing for the ressies this week. you really do have a problem controlling you moods! I was updating you cos you had them in your f**king team for tomorrow!!!!
NickG Posted 20 October, 2008 Posted 20 October, 2008 So f**king what ? Lowe and JP wouldnt play that team if they were fit anyway. Besides, you've just posted that they are playing for the ressies this week. as they are returning from injury and not yet fully fit so playing 45 mins for reserves
alpine_saint Posted 20 October, 2008 Posted 20 October, 2008 you really do have a problem controlling you moods! I was updating you cos you had them in your f**king team for tomorrow!!!! So what ? The rest of our reserve team from last season will be at Bramall Lane; I see no risk of throwing them straight in. If they are fit enough for the reserves, they can play for the first team.
alpine_saint Posted 20 October, 2008 Posted 20 October, 2008 as they are returning from injury and not yet fully fit so playing 45 mins for reserves 45mins out of Euell or Skacel is better than zero minutes out of McGoldrick.
