Does anyone remember the interview with Benazir Bhutto before she died, stating she knew Bin Laden's killer? This announcement comes days after Obama released his birth certificate. One last push for securing his presidency for a second term? I wish I wasn't so cynical but this world sucks.

If true, it's astonishing that he was found so close to the Pakistani capital. There will be almighty trouble. The word you used 'almighty' concerns me. What trouble, based on your understanding, do you predict? I wonder what the scum will have to say. http://www.muslimsagainstcrusades.com/index.php I believe that all contributors to that site, and those who endorse that site, should be packed off to Guantanamo Bay, for intense interrogation, all of them. or at the very least, export them all to a dust bowl in Pakistan so we can wash our hands of them. The envy and bitterness on that site is stunning. I've been through Abbottabad. It's a HUGE military town - several barracks and military schools. Very odd. How recently did you go through the Al-Qaida chiefs town? Did you see his massive $1m house? Did the people of Abbottobotty know of his presence? That would suggest the Pakistani state, and the people of the town, including Pakistani military personnel, have been knowingly harboring him (in a $1m home!) for some time. I think Pakistani is a corrupt and extremist state, maybe the next one Team America (**** yeah) should turn its attention to... Congratulations to all involved in the operation to destroy Bin Laden. My two trips through Abbottabad were in 2007. There are quite a few expensive houses there and further north, mostly owned by a combination of drug lords, living off profits from the trade in Afghanistan, and senior army personnel (bear in mind that the Pakistani army is the largest landowner, by far, in the country, and routinely rewards its senior staff with large swathes of property). So it wouldn't necessarily mean anyone in the Pakistani high command knew. But I bet they did.

aintforever Posted 2 May, 2011 Share Posted 2 May, 2011 (edited) I doubt the Pakistan military knew, it's just the classic case of someone hiding where you would least expect. The million pound house was obviously owned by someone else (reasonably important/wealthy) who could afford to keep him comfortable and had enough cash to not be tempted by the ransom, I expect only a handful of people knew he was there. Wether you are 100 meters away or 100 miles away from a military HQ is irrelevant he would be much safer there than in a cave in the mountains or some village somewhere where he would stand out like a sore thumb. It's possible, but Pakistan is gossipsville in my experience. Secrets are very hard to keep. FWIW I always doubted he was in the tribal areas, and thought he was more likely to be somewhere like Swat Valley, where rich drug lords' houses are plentiful, and a comfortable existence was possible. I was wrong, but not by that much.
