Baj Posted 1 May, 2011 Share Posted 1 May, 2011 Does anyone else record music from home? I recorded this cover of Everlong a few weeks ago, and was chatting the other night about the values of a decent mic. Case in point, this is a Rode NT1-A, and the guitar was £10 off ebay

Baj Posted 1 May, 2011 Author Share Posted 1 May, 2011 I also have a Rode Mic and its good...better than the shure SM58. To be fair, they are completely different microphones, condenser v dynamic. What Rode do you have?
Barry the Badger Posted 17 May, 2011 Share Posted 17 May, 2011 I have an AT 4050, love it. Massive improvement on my previous which was a cheap condenser. I wanted a 414 but couldn't stretch to it.
Frank's cousin Posted 17 May, 2011 Share Posted 17 May, 2011 The Rode NT1-A is good all rounder - have one as well and for the price its great. Also use another cheapy Audio Technica AT3525 which is good for an acoustic...but recently got hold of a DPA 4099 (condenser) designed for live performances and is fantastic for live real acoustic tone (and clips to teh giutar with a gooseneck)... so I tried recording with it... was OK, but great when I went through a channel strip (Focusrite platinum trakmaster). Still trying to find the optimum for acoustic guitar recording, so far best bet seems to be to dual mic, into two seperate channels with different mic positions the DPA just over the fingerboard at the body join and the Rode or AT between the bridge and soundhole and mix the two ;-) ...and 20:20 vision, dont dis the SM58 - best live vocal mic there is ;-)
