Matthew Le God Posted 1 May, 2011 Posted 1 May, 2011 (edited) Saints went into the weekend one point behind leaders Fulham. Although both Fulham and Saints are in the same league, the way the academy leagues work is that you also play games against some of the teams in the other groups and the points get added to your main league table (similar to how the MLS works in America). Saints were away to Coventry and Fulham played Group D winners Leicester City. On Saturday afternoon Fulham academy won 5-3 against Leicester City after being 3-0 down at half time, meaning Saints under 18's finish 2nd and miss out on playoffs. The group winners of all four academy leagues now have a semi final and academy league final to compete in. Which Saints under the academy league's various incarnations have won three times in the past. Saints' league contained Arsenal, Chelsea and West Ham's academies. So to finish 2nd in a league like that is impressive! Pompey finished bottom. A great season however for Jason Dodd's side and some very promising players coming through! Saint_clark Posted 1 May, 2011 Posted 1 May, 2011 All good experience for Dodd as well, who could well be the first team manager in the future.

Matthew Le God Posted 1 May, 2011 Author Posted 1 May, 2011 All good experience for Dodd as well, who could well be the first team manager in the future. He is only 6 years younger than Nigel Adkins. Plus he has already managed Saints in a joint caretaker role.
simo Posted 1 May, 2011 Posted 1 May, 2011 all good experience for dodd as well, who could well be the first team manager in the future. no way!
Tamesaint Posted 1 May, 2011 Posted 1 May, 2011 Intersting that we ended up behind Fulham. Huw Jennings who did so much to set up our youth structure is now there.

Appointing Wigley proved that and cost us our place in the Prem. I wish we could watch the accademy games at Staplewood like we used to be able to - I loved watching the lads and picking out those with decent futures.

Proves nothing of the sort, just proved that Wigley was not the right man for the job. Lots of good coaches at whatever level do not make good managers, while others do. I doubt that Doddsy will ever be our first team manager but just because he is currently the Academy Coach should not mean he is barred from the job just because Lowe fecked up with Wigley. Next we'll be told that physios would make good managers, or even goalkeepers. Whatever next. Great shame that the lads lost out in the end, I thought Fulham may have had a tougher game against Leicester, probably end up with Fulham winning overall.

I fired off an email to the club not so long ago about this and they basically said if there was enough interest they would consider it. Perhaps with the muscle this forum has i am sure we could get spectators back at Staplewood. I would love to pop down there and checkout the up and coming.
forever a red and white Posted 1 May, 2011 Posted 1 May, 2011 i though Huw Jennings was at the Nike Academy?
