NickG Posted 30 April, 2011 Posted 30 April, 2011 Since Adkins made this comment Brighton have only just managed to keep up with is now. They have matched us for points, although they played one game more. They have been impressive since. We have been better. What do you think Gus?
trousers Posted 30 April, 2011 Posted 30 April, 2011 What do you think Gus? He's probably thinking some Saints fans are as obsessed with Brighton as some Brighton fans are/were obsessed with us.
NickG Posted 30 April, 2011 Author Posted 30 April, 2011 and after 8 games, when we had both played same amount of games and Adkins had just arrived we were 9 points behind. Adkins has delivered champion level performance since his arrival, just a shame, yet again, about the early season handicap. I think if we had not had the change of management and Markus' tragic demise we would have been clearly ahead of Brighton.
Thedelldays Posted 30 April, 2011 Posted 30 April, 2011 dont care...am still livid that brighton let in a last min winnder....now I guess I know what hudders fans have been feeling for the last month or so
Spudders Posted 30 April, 2011 Posted 30 April, 2011 Is Gus a Saintsweb forum member? Can't you just pm him?
NickG Posted 30 April, 2011 Author Posted 30 April, 2011 if they keep up with us!!! someone edit please!
Spudders Posted 30 April, 2011 Posted 30 April, 2011 if they keep up with us!!! someone edit please! retard Do you also wish to revist your point where you say "They have been impressive since" - I assume you mean They have NOT been impressive since
Lighthouse Posted 30 April, 2011 Posted 30 April, 2011 dont care...am still livid that brighton let in a last min winnder....now I guess I know what hudders fans have been feeling for the last month or so Really? I mean, deep down, really? It's like being annoyed that a bear made a big smelly mess in a wood. Well hopefully the Brighton fans will read your post and sleep content in the knowledge that they've annoyed at least one Saints fan. I think the rest of us saw that coming a mile off. I actually laughed when I saw the timing of the goals. Being a Saints fans thickens one's skin somewhat.

I actually laughed when I saw the timing of the goals. Being a Saints fans thickens one's skin somewhat. yes..I was annoyed as I was listening to it...they abolutely battered huddersfield..and it seems that they did not take their foot off the gas so to speak...when brighton made it 1-1 it all pointed towards a brighton win with the chances they were creating.....had that happened we would be promoted now (all but) their commentators were commenting on how poor huddersfield were compared to us....
Lighthouse Posted 30 April, 2011 Posted 30 April, 2011 yes..I was annoyed as I was listening to it...they abolutely battered huddersfield..and it seems that they did not take their foot off the gas so to speak...when brighton made it 1-1 it all pointed towards a brighton win with the chances they were creating.....had that happened we would be promoted now (all but) their commentators were commenting on how poor huddersfield were compared to us.... Well if Brighton were battering them the result should have been even more obvious.
NickG Posted 30 April, 2011 Author Posted 30 April, 2011  retard Do you also wish to revist your point where you say "They have been impressive since" - I assume you mean They have NOT been impressive since No **** wit that's right
Spudders Posted 30 April, 2011 Posted 30 April, 2011 No **** wit that's right good one you're the one that can't even get the thread title to make sense. Beside, do you really think Brighton have been impressive recently?
NickG Posted 30 April, 2011 Author Posted 30 April, 2011 Since We played them at home and comment. Yes
Spudders Posted 30 April, 2011 Posted 30 April, 2011 I guess they are lucky enough to have gotten themselves into a good enough position to not have to care about their last few results.......... Now if only Saints could do that next season
rallyboy Posted 30 April, 2011 Posted 30 April, 2011 after earlier disagreements they really cared about the results against us and Huddersfield - but they just weren't good enough. Poyet's team doesn't seem to like pressure, or maybe his ballboys were off form? He's happy grounding out results against a few lesser clubs but when it came to the crunch his team bottled it. Twice. So we have now established that the two best football teams in the division sit in 2nd and 3rd - or does he think Huddersfield play like Dagenham too? If Poyet isn't careful he'll find that he has failed to keep up with us since that original throwaway comment was made. A month ago I thought they were worthy champions but it appears that they have limped over the line and would now not fare well if thrown into playoffs against the likes of Bmouth.
shurlock Posted 30 April, 2011 Posted 30 April, 2011 Fair play to Brighton and the chimp - didn't think they would turn up and yes its easy to assume all kinds of dodgy motives from the result but from the reports (and repeated by DD above), they gave it a right go. They would be the first to admit that, without Glenn Murray, they are pretty toothless upfront and so it was the case today. Disappointed yes but at least not aggrieved.

Are you for real? 94 points, Champions with games to spare and we bottled it? Behave yourself lol.
The Kraken Posted 30 April, 2011 Posted 30 April, 2011 So we have now established that the two best football teams in the division sit in 2nd and 3rd Don't be a *****. The best "football team" finished top of the division by a comfortable distance. Beating them (and getting 4 points in the 2 matches) was very, very enjoyable. But that doesn't change the fact that, over the season, they have been the stand out team and won the league well.
alpine_saint Posted 30 April, 2011 Posted 30 April, 2011 and after 8 games, when we had both played same amount of games and Adkins had just arrived we were 9 points behind. If we had not had the change of management we would have been stuck with Pardew and wouldnt have had the "champion level performance"
rallyboy Posted 1 May, 2011 Posted 1 May, 2011 I don't call Poyet's tactics football, and in the end he proved he couldn't hack it against the passing teams. They are champions because they did a more professional job on the likes of Rochdale, fair play to them for that, but the comfortable distance looks very slim now. Must have been a right damp squib of a farewell party.
bender Posted 1 May, 2011 Posted 1 May, 2011 Poyets comments of Brighton by being by far the best team could look very flat. If they draw at Notts County they could end up being just 3 points clear of us and with a worse goal difference. Hardly streets ahead, and surely the league table is only a true reflection once everyone had played each other.
sadoldgit Posted 1 May, 2011 Posted 1 May, 2011 If we had not had the change of management we would have been stuck with Pardew and wouldnt have had the "champion level performance" I we had stuck with Pardew how do you know we wouldn't already be promoted? Just because the mighty Alpine has decided that Pardew is rubbish doesn't mean to say he wouldn't have delivered this year. Afterall, he brought most of the quality players we have into this squad and had a good first season despite the minus 10 handicap. Fair play to Adkins for his work this season but Pardew should take some credit for laying the foundations.

Anyway that is now irrelevant. The question now is who do we need in the close season and will Cortese find the funds??

Pardew's time was up before the end of last season, unless you have a totally selective memory. It makes not one iota of difference how many times anyone says what if. The FACT is that AP as a Manager was unable to manage his boss - NC and fell out with him, either over time or with a row. You may as well spend the next 3 seasons saying that NC should have been sacked in order to let AP stay on. Any manager who is performing well MUSt keep his boss on side otherwise there will be no trust so when the Manager asks his boss to "Back him in the transger market" - nada AP may be better than Fergie & Jose combined, however he FAILED with that basic tenet of any employment position. Perhaps he simply could not stand NC however that matters not, NC paid his salary. That breakdown happened LAST season. The FAULT lies in not sacking him before close season OR with AP for getting into that position in the first place. AP was never going to get NC fired only an idiot picks fights he has little or no chance of winning
Raging Bull Posted 1 May, 2011 Posted 1 May, 2011 If we had not had the change of management we would have been stuck with Pardew and wouldnt have had the "champion level performance" I duno Alps, how many times did AP come to the rescue with his plan B to get us out of the sh!te........ No I can't think of any either!
sadoldgit Posted 1 May, 2011 Posted 1 May, 2011 I duno Alps, how many times did AP come to the rescue with his plan B to get us out of the sh!te........ No I can't think of any either! Still doesn't alter the fact that he finally won us some silverware, brought in some quality players and probably would have got us up last year if it hadn't been for the minus 10. Still, it wouldn't be a Saints forum if we didn't knock people who have done a decent job for us would it?
Raging Bull Posted 1 May, 2011 Posted 1 May, 2011 Still doesn't alter the fact that he finally won us some silverware, brought in some quality players and probably would have got us up last year if it hadn't been for the minus 10. Still, it wouldn't be a Saints forum if we didn't knock people who have done a decent job for us would it? I'm not really trying to knock Pardew & had a great day out @ Wembely. He set up a good squad with good players that clearly have enough ability to get promoted. It was very clear at times though when things weren't going our way he often struggled which is something that IMO NA more often than not doesn't. Also 1 of the most important factors in SFC's future success is stability which is something Pardew quite clearly wasn't offering ie not listening to coaching staff pre season and pushing the players too hard resulting in our key striker losing his form for more than 6 months & not being able to see eye to eye with the chairman (and by all accounts the owner towards the end of last season).
