Great result ! As we've known all along - win our games and we are up, win our games and we don't need to worry about anybody else. Well done Nigel and the boys - another tricky game out of the way - looking forward to Monday!

Looks like the BBC were a bit ahead of themselves with their match report:

"And substitute Gobern grabbed his first Saints goal to wrap up a 13th win in 15 matches, meaning one win from their last two games should be enough for them to seal a return to the Championship even if Huddersfield win their final fixture."

Nope, that's spot on. One win now would realistically do it.

Looks OK to me!

Pressure will be on Plymouth more than us on Monday.

We have margin for error, in other words next Saturday.

They have no margin for error.

They will be nervous.

COYR !

Quite simply, Plymouth must win or it's curtains for them. Not only that, they then need to win their last game at home to Orient and require us to lose at home to Walsall to have any chance of staying up. No doubt Plymouth will go out all guns blazing but if we can keep it tight early on and get a foothold I don't think it will take too much for their heads to drop - especially having lost a knackering derby two days before.

Hope Guly's fit to play.g

Require us to win against Walsall I think you meant to say!

Why?

That's correct.

******s....they edited it, i didn't check before i reposted it.

basically it said ''meaning one point from their last two games will be enough"

I know we can do it, and i know we WILL do it.............But in the back of my mind a Huddersfield win and two draws by us is what history has told me to expect...........COYS on Monday!!!

Better get researching some Nun pics on the innernet to help out!!

Lucky dumps/fags/nuns/cup cakes ahoy!!

Solent getting very fenickity about the fact a win at Plymouth is not enough

FFS if we win at Plymouth we would have a GD of plus 16 more then UDDERS meaning an 8 nil loss by us and an 8 nil win by UDDERS on the last day would still see us up on goals scored!

That is up in my books!

Would be nice to beat Plymouth & go up............thinking of that crappy first game of the season.

Huddersfield really have made these last few weeks memorable........will be SO glad when they can no longer catch us

I'm listening to that as well, its terrible radio - arguing with texts who have taken the goal difference into account.

Solent get on my tits !

Even a born pessemist like me knows that Huddersfield will not overturn a 16 goal difference if we win Monday.

Has it ever been done in one game Solent ?

No....so shut the **** up :-)

Great win never in doubt against an injury hit Brentford. Not bothered about hudders as I had then down to win anyway. I can see us blowing it at Plymouth but walsall at SMS no chance. Personally I like the idea of sealing it on the last day with another win.

Well done to Kelvin on the peno

Also Gobern on scoring his second for saints

Posted

well done saints great result. sounded comfortable in first half, took our foot off the gas alittle in the second but were comfortable in the end.

happy for davis with the pen save and gobern for his first league goal. now rest up recover and focus 100% for mondays game.

Could be a great day in the sun for everyone COYR'S

Great result today, the wife thought it had all gone Pete Tong when Hudds got their 3rd as I shouted feck it. We have only got worry about our own games, win both and if Brighton get beat next weekend we would only finish 2 points behind them, if they had not parked the bus at SMS we would have beat them and could have finished above them.

Great result. Need a similar performance on Monday now. And well done Huddersfield you annoying tw*ts - they are a very resilient team.

According to Wiki, the record football league victory is 13-0.

So, if Huddersfield match that, we would need to lose by at least 3 goals if we win one and lose one of the last two.

I make that about 99.9999999% likely not to happen. When you are talking that sort of probability you are wasting your time - hence the presenter was a tit for even bringing up the "not mathematically up" line. Might as well factor in the probability of being wound up by the end of the season or having a points deduction.

How readily to hand is the resuscitation equipment at St Mary's?

1-1 at Plymouth on Monday, 0-0 at SMS on Saturday with 20mins to go and Huddersfield in the lead, I think I'll be needing it!

Probably best to stay at home then.

Well done to all the lads and supporters who made the trip. I could not get Brentford tickets but we set off for Plymouth tomorrow. WHU.

No downer about Huddersfield but the twit on the BBC really wound me up about not being promoted on Monday if we win. He clearly thought Huddersfield had two more games and when DM advised him that they did not he kept trying to say we would lose it if our goal diffferences merged by 15 goals - we know that t****r

Oh and 10 points on the prediction league

Just back from the game.

First things first.....Brentford were VERY poor.

We dominated the first half - never seen us look so comfortable. Connolly once again showed he is a class act in this league. My MOTM.

A bit of a different kettle of fish in the second half. We seemed to have settled for the 2 goal vicotry from the re-start which gradually let Brentford back into the game. Had their penealty gone in I'd have put my house on them scoring an equaliser.

That said, we were still the best team in the second half. Lallana showing his usual flashes of brilliance and Chaplow never stopped running, chasing and snuffing out their midfield all day long. Very impressed with his work rate.

Jaidi had a game of two halves - a rock in the first and bordering on a liability in the second.....I lost count of the number of his sliced clearances in the second half.

But, overall, every player had a good game - Fonte and Hammond very solid. Guly showing touches of class. Lambert winning, holding up and laying off the ball very effectively as usual.

All in all a very good day at the office.

Well, a good win today. I think we are sending a message that we want up and we aren't going to stop.

I know both Plymouth and Walsall are fighting for their L1 lives at the moment but it's down to who has the biggest incentive, who has the psycological upeer hand and, when it comes down to it, we are sitting second and we seem to have no stopping the bus. We have beaten Brighton, the 'Champions' at home, and what sort of message does that send?

I knew Brighton would bottle it, and the conspiracy theories will start, but we have only taken each game as it comes, and we will continue to do so.

And I think Solent is wrong. They said that even if we won on Monday it doesn't guarentee we would go up? Yes it does, because that means that even if we lose against Walsall, the most Huddersfield can achieve is 89 points, and we still have a greater goal difference.

Would have liked the extra two points but there you go.

Championship here we come

- Great win in what was a tricky fixture.

- We are now bang on form and 6 points are perfectly achievable. Auto promotion will happen.

- Respect to Huddersfield, we've been flying yet they've been like a dog chewing at our leg for what seem like ages now.

- Brighton should count themselves very lucky that we had our usual crap start.

Great win keeps the momentum going.

I appreciate Plymouth and Walsall are fighting for their lives BUT SO ARE WE at the other end of the table. Class should see us through those tricky games. Let's hope it is a win on Monday and we can all enjoy next Saturday. I am quietly confident now. Wins at Brighton and Brentford were massive for us.

It's incorrect because Gobern has already scored his first Saints goal, in the FA Cup earlier this season (a header late on at home to Cheltenham if memory serves).

Fantastic result today. I feared the worst watching Soccer Saturday, when Hudd's went 1-0 up so early, but fair play to saints for making it quite comfortable.

Kelv deserves a special mention - That would've been a tense 8 or so minutes had they have scored that penalty.

Hudds did their best to ruin the day, but you know what? Before kick-off, I just hoped we matched their result - and we did. So job done, and on to the next game.

We haven't this season.

Yes we have. Saturday 16th April to Monday 25th April. We beat Bristol R. home 1-0, Brighton away 2-1 and Hartlepool home 2-0. Check out also results for 2nd April to 9th April and 5th March to19th March.

Yes we matched them in getting 3 points, but we also increased our GD by 2 more. Which makes it, an even better day!! Can we get top scorers from the Rear Gunners!! :)

Great result. Don't give a sh*t about Brighton and Udders. I could have told you on Tuesday how that game would end (even what time the goal is scored). If you think it's nauseating for us, think how the Udders fans must feel. Unbeaten this year, they just won away at places like Franchise and Brighton and they still look likely to miss out on the autos. Has any team ever got 89 points in any league and not even made the top 2 before? Just goes to show how crap this League is.

A draw useless for both teams on Monday. Expect all out attack. Walsall on the other hand will probably park the bus in front of the goal next weekend. May prove more of an issue, in which case we need Daggenham to win at Posh.

Squeaky bum time now, but overall a good day. My aim for today was to match Brighton's result, we did it.

Brentford may have had nothing to play for but we went there and did a very good job.

Just got home from Griffin Park and Brentford actually played their hearts out and caused us some heart stopping moments when we were two up, including a penalty miss. We were really not comfortably ahead until Oscar's well taken goal as the Bees dominated spells in Saints half for a bit and always looked like they might score. Thank Fonte again for leading the defence.

I dare say Brentford made more effort than Brighton did, and hopefully they'll be up for it again against Udders.

Great atmosphere, and Saints supporters were absolutely deafening in the terrace.

Excellent result and day out. Bless their little stadium and poor support.

Was a little miffed that none of the players in the dug out looked happy when the final whistle blew. Maybe theyve been told to reign it in until monday.

Both you and Solent are correct. Yes of course we will be up but the little 'p' will not appear against our name until it is a 100% mathematical certainty.

Correct I was one of the the few people who turnned up to watch that match on a fecking cold day, in fact Gobern scored twice that day and had one ruled out for no good reason.
