Plymouth build up thread

"You could see today that the players are absolutely knackered and I can't blame them to be honest. Good effort lads, the squad is just to small to allow players to have rest periods."

That's from the Plymouth forum. I guess in terms of rests for us I'd go Seaborne in for Jaidi, Butterfield to start instead of Richardson and perhaps Stephens for Chaplow? We do have a fair bit of strength-in-depth, so hopefully that will win out on the day.

Going to be very interesting to see how Adkins plays it, as Plymouth will be all-out attack - no question. Do we try and hold out and catch them on the counter (with the likes of Connolly and Lallana ripping them) or do we also go all-out attack and see where we are at half-time? Personally i'd try and hold tight to wear them down and pound them second half.

I think cborne is dodgy though. Dont trust him, rather play martin.

Anybody else have a sneaky desire for us to need the win on the final day? Imagine the roar if/when we put the ball in the net...

Probably just me.

I hope it's just you, FFS, I'm going to Plymouth and don't think I could wait another 4 days or want the tension against Walsall...

Thanks for naming this thread 'Promotion match build up - Monday'. Presumably if we fail to win you are going to get in first with 'Promotion match build up - Saturday'. Are you some sort of masochist? Don't you think there's enough pressure already? Unbelievable. I would seriously ask the Mods to consider editing the title before too many players read it. There's a line between positivity and stupidity.

LOLz at you thinking the players don't know we will almost certainly get promoted if we win and having to read about it on here.

What is clear is that a point is no use to either team on Monday. After today Walsall will need to come to us next weekend needing to win to be sure of staying up. This will suit us in both games.

This is not true, if we draw tomorrow and lose to Walsall at home next Sat, and Huddersfield only draw at home to Brentford, the draw against Playmouth will be very important and gain us promotion!

I think if we draw tomorrow against Plymouth we will beat Walsall on Saturday, but if we win against Plymouth then Walsall could turn us over on Saturday and get the result they need.

The permutations are endless ... and mind-boggling.

I just want to win on Monday, and party next Saturday. I don't care if there's nothing to play for then. By Saturday, I will be happy to dance in my seat and sing myself hoarse "we are goin' up, we are goin' up." :) Then listen to the speeches from Addo and Cortese. maybe someone from the Liebherr family confirming the ongoing investment in the Championship.

I think you can take it as an absolute nailed on certainty that Udders will beat Brentford. It's about as safe a bet as you will ever see. Ergo, a draw for Saints is no use.

Just watching FLS. Blades, Scunny and PNE... now there's 3 away days I REALLY don't want next season.

Calm down dear - it's just a thread title. One line!

I am sure the players are nervous and I am sure Adkins is keeping feet firmly on the ground. If the players do read these threads then I am sure ghat they will not see THAT thread and go in to meltdown.

Enjoy the sun today then enjoy the match on Monday if you can.

Even AL is keeping his feet on the ground.

Hmm just running down our results in the Prediction League table I notice....

The most consecutive wins in the League this season is 4

We've just won 4 in a row.

I'd be really worried

Except for the fact that we actually had a 5 win sequence if we include an FA Cup game...

Phew

I think

Christ - 'promotion game'? We love setting ourselves up, no? We have to do it now as it will be way too risky to leave to the last game. All that expectation and tension at home. Come on Saints. My heart can't take it!

Given that we can't technically get promotion at this game (although 99.9999% nailed on), the fact that some will blame this thread if we lose and also that it has been the naming convention for the past 44 league games I'll correct the predictive text error to Plymouth ;)

I have a horrible feeling about this one. That last min goal from hoods means we have to win another game. Where as if Brighton held on for another min. 1 draw would have been enough.

I hope the players are not spent.

I would like to see butterfield come in. Other than that. Same starting 11 please

Finally after a 44 game slog we can actually see that finishing line.

I predict we'll be (effectively) up by the end of Monday and then we can get down to preps for the new season in the championship.

Please nice Mr Cortese, can we get CMS? He'd be dynamite in the champ.

Plymouth will be a tough game. They always make a game of it against us - and the fact that they HAVE to win to stand any chance of staying up will simply add to the occassion.

Same goes for Walsall. Neither game is a "gimme".

I'm hoping that we show the class & determination needed in order to do the job we began way back in August - the job of finally getting out of this bloody league & up into the Championship!

Every game that goes by I get more and more suprised and delighted with our winning mentality. As recently as last Thursday I reckoned we'd draw the Plymouth game. Now, with Plymouth as good as down and us as good as up, I genuinely think we will win tomorrow. Plymouth have a depleted team, they're doing their best to fight, but our quality will see us through.

2 wins is more than achievable imo, 1 win almost a dead cert. I wonder if there'll be any Huddersfield shirts in the Plymouth stands...

It depends if you think that plymouth are as good as down though. If they could beat us then they'd have a pretty good chance of achieving a miracle escape next Saturday because we'd have to beat Walsall to make sure that we go up automatically. D+R could spoil that for them of course but as they're away at Posh it might not happen that way, Posh losing would probably change the order of home/away legs in the play-offs.Plymouth will be incredibly motivated for this game and I really doubt that they think that they are as good as down.

I have a bad feeling about a draw, they will not give up and as a point will be no good for either side, I reckon that is what will happen.

Please finish it on Monday.

If Plymouth are level at 90 minutes (or even a bit before) they will throw everything at us. Didn't a keeper score for Hartlepool yesterday in the 94th minute?

Absolutely. Plymouth have no second chance, we do.

Plymouth will be tired and nervous, they do not have the depth in squad.

If we can keep them out for the first half hour when they should throw everything at us I would hope as the game goes on we take charge.

Of course it probably wont work out like that. :-)

Well who would draw at home to Brentford, let alone lose to them!! Stanger things have happened, they drew at home to Swindon not so long ago, and we drew at home to Notts County. I agree that it is unlikely, but it could happen.

Doubt that we would expose ourselves to a defeat actually.Beating Walsall is a pretty safe bet.We wouldn't send Kelv forward for a 90th minute corner,Plymouth have far more to gain by winning than we have.A point is a point to us, puts all chance of Huddersfield going up on GD by beating Brentford 20-0 or something like that if we win our last match...which we will.
