Chez Posted 29 April, 2011 Share Posted 29 April, 2011 Just watched the BBC documentary on Bobby Charlton. Pretty much the whole thing had me welling up. For such an amazing player you couldn't come across anyone so down to earth and humble. Him saying "I could knock the odd goal in now and then" with the pictures showing him scoring yet another thunderbolt in the background just had me smiling. Anyone met him and is he just the same off camera?
bridge too far Posted 29 April, 2011 Share Posted 29 April, 2011 We watched this last night and we also thought how 'ordinary' he seemed. What a shame so many over-paid, over-hyped young footballers don't follow his example. He came across as a really nice man.
Chez Posted 29 April, 2011 Author Share Posted 29 April, 2011 Fergie described him as the best player ever, yet the man himself just describes himself as lucky.
scotty Posted 29 April, 2011 Share Posted 29 April, 2011 I saw just a few minutes of it, loved the bit where Jack said how he was playing against him for leeds and wanted to hack him down from behind but couldnt catch him.

Dellman Posted 29 April, 2011 Share Posted 29 April, 2011 Yes it was good but made me shed a tear for Duncan Edwards, to lose him was too tragic and to think of the present mobsters in his place
rooney Posted 30 April, 2011 Share Posted 30 April, 2011 Fortunate to have seen the Busby Babes play at Chelsea and Tottenham when I was still at school, but my memories were those great goals by Bobbie over his playing career. Absolutely fabulous.
Wade Garrett Posted 30 April, 2011 Share Posted 30 April, 2011 I think he had the most fantastic haircut, and as a baldie myself it is something I am trying to cultivate.
dronskisaint Posted 30 April, 2011 Share Posted 30 April, 2011 Whilst admiring his talent and apparent humility I will not forgive him for his arrogant 6-0 prediction for the '76 FA Cup final - pigeons, home, roost etc. Then they made him a member of the pools panel! Crab Lungs Posted 30 April, 2011 Share Posted 30 April, 2011 (edited) Wow, just seen it. Puts into perspective the losers that frequent the game today. It was only on Tuesday I was thinking what a disgrace the Barca/Madrid game was... Hamilton Saint Posted 1 May, 2011 Share Posted 1 May, 2011 I remember writing in praise of Bobby Charlton on here about five years ago and getting shat on by five or six members of the forum who insisted he was an arsehole. But all positive on here so far. Maybe it was an issue back then of some grief between Saints and Man U?

He was quite dismissive and said that we had no chance.
Chez Posted 1 May, 2011 Author Share Posted 1 May, 2011 I always had a gripe about him selling his FA Cup tickets, but I most be going soft as I'm willing to forgive and forget. I didn't realise England had beaten everyone prior to the world cup and were favourites.
