Gorgiesaint Posted 29 April, 2011 Share Posted 29 April, 2011 Interesting article on the BBC website today about an alleged, as yet unproven, limit on the numbers of black and African trainee's that French clubs were allowed to have. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-13236864 If this get's proven, will very interesting to see what UEFA & FIFA's stance is against the French federation. SuperMikey Posted 29 April, 2011 Share Posted 29 April, 2011 There is certainly an undercurrent of discrimination in French footballing culture (and indeed in French culture itself). Wouldn't be surprised if this was true tbh.
Window Cleaner Posted 29 April, 2011 Share Posted 29 April, 2011 (edited) Interesting article on the BBC website today about an alleged, as yet unproven, limit on the numbers of black and African trainee's that French clubs were allowed to have. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-13236864 If this get's proven, will very interesting to see what UEFA & FIFA's stance is against the French federation. Whilst not having any idea about the background facts I must say that it wouldn't surprise me if is a some sort of concrete base for these allegations. France is over-run and you only have to look at any U13s team to know that. You could find plenty of junior club sides in the suburbs of any large town without a single pure French origin player. The French are beginning to show their distaste of this by various means and the fact that the National Front candidate is credited with about 28% of first round voting intentions for next year's presidential election is not a product of pure hazard.Pro clubs are literally recruiting in Africa very young players rather than taking the time to look about amongst the existent population. These youngsters despite obtaining the nationality then accept the overtures of their parent nation for international honours despite all the time effort and money the FFF has put into them.Blanc has said that he doesn't want that to happen any more and any player not committing their future to the French cause at an early age will not be considered for selection. Crab Lungs Posted 29 April, 2011 Share Posted 29 April, 2011 Considering the historical ethnicity of the French national team for the World Cup and Euros win (their most successful period!), it'll be interesting to know why the French federation would have that bizarre viewpoint. Likewise their team today, though they haven't won anything *yet*, the mixed race arabian/nth generation african is still very, very high. And it could be argued that their finest player ever was of ethnically Algerian extraction. Interesting read. Thanks. (Btw... has anyone noticed the renaissance that Belgian international football is having?)
