It seems they knew they were breaking the rules but carried on anyway. I can think of another club nearby that did that.

The FA must give them a points penalty, a fine would be nothing to one of the richest clubs in the country.

Very interesting:

In the event of Nottingham Forest reaching the play-off semi-finals following this Saturday's game against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, the club wish to inform their supporters of the following:

The club have been contacted by the Football League and have been informed that the FA verdict scheduled to be given this Friday against QPR could have significant impact on the provisional dates for the play-off semi-finals.

Implication here is it would affect Forest directly as it could change the date they play on, which is determined by league position. Otherwise it would just change the opposition.

QPR are on 88 points, Forest are on 72.

15 point deduction??

Yep and Play-Off's going on as normal, meaning absolutely no chance of a points deduction. Heavy fine.

Maybe it's a delay to make sure they have a water tight case.

After all, they could well impose a points deduction with no right of appeal, like they did with us.

If found guilty the sentence shouldn't be harsh. They bought him last season but did not benefit from having an 'illegal' player.

They declared the third party ownership over the summer. The league then sanctioned the transfer. Thus, he has been a 'legal' player this season so I cannot see how the league can punish severely.

Maybe its relegation to L1, with 2 down from the prem?
