jam Posted 29 April, 2011 Share Posted 29 April, 2011 Don't know really. There are plenty of clubs to choose from near where I grew up, although no footy team in my home (rugby league) town, but none of them struck a chord with me. I'm naturally drawn to support the underdog, so Saints obviously appealed in the late 80's when I started following football, which fortunately coincided with a certain channel-islander breaking into the first team... A classic moment was being labelled a "glory-hunter" by some of my Man Utd supporting pals following the 3-1 and 6-3 drubbings at The Dell Fair play, sounds like some interesting times! TUS Posted 29 April, 2011 Share Posted 29 April, 2011 Saints fan in Newcastle (the toon one) here. Looking forward to dragging my geordie missus and our kids back "home" in few years time. Have loved living up here, but am feeling that home calling now. Having said that, home is Somerset for me, not Soton ... but closer than up here :-)
northyorksaint Posted 29 April, 2011 Share Posted 29 April, 2011 I used to visit a couple of former Uni mates in Harrogate, and remember the name 'Claro Beagle'. A regular haunt was The County pub, is it still there and thriving ? (I am going back to the 1980's though). see my post above, the county was where i had my wedding reception back in 1994 when jim McCalliog ran it, now an indian resturant, but the claro beagle is still the claro beagle and is my local. landford.saint Posted 30 April, 2011 Share Posted 30 April, 2011 Last time we were away at Hull spoke to a really nice bloke with broad Yorkshire accent went to many Saints away games. No connection with Southampton, just a life long Saints supporter. Good on all supporters who don't go for the easy option of Manure etc. But go for the less fashionable clubs. Probably the same guy who featured on some TV show a few years back, it was set in Hull and he was a big Saints fan. Couldn't be two could there! Saints Fan Dan Posted 1 May, 2011 Share Posted 1 May, 2011 I'm born and bred in Hull and living in Sheffield but I've supported the Saints since the age of 7 because my dad is from Southampton and also a Saints fan and we have Saints supporting family in New Milton. It's good to see I'm not alone!
