DO you live in Harrogate? I go up there a lot as my missus is from there and my inlaws live there. Funnily enough i was up there this weekend gone and driving down the road near where they live a bloke in the car in front had a saints scarf on the back seat. When i am up there can often be found of an evening in The Empress off the stray if you know where that is, it's the FIL's local. Cracking pub IMO.

Turkish Posted 29 April, 2011 Posted 29 April, 2011 Blimey Harrogate must be full of Saints fans - I met a ski Instructor last week in Val Thorens who is from Harrogate and his brother in law is a Saints Fan. I lived up there for a while when about 10 years ago when i first met the incumbent, I met 3 and we used to travel to northen away games together, they've all since moved away from Harrogate, there is another one that i still see regularly in the Empress when we are up there.

Yes i do know Jennyfields, my in laws live off Norwich Drive and been in the Claro Beagle a couple of times. Pretty sure it was a blue Peugeot thinking about it. I've been going up there for about 10 years, we got married up there and had our wedding reception at the Sun Pavillions in The Valley Gardens. She is desperate to move back but i'm still to be convinced! I'll give you a shout next time i'm up then.
Turkish Posted 29 April, 2011 Posted 29 April, 2011 (edited) what are their names mate? ive been up here 20 years and thought i knew all the match going saints here! Dave and Alister, cant remember their surnames or the name of other one think it might Alan? He was an older guy in his 60's, they've both moved away from Harrogate since then as it was 10 years or so ago. Edited 29 April, 2011 by Turkish
northyorksaint Posted 29 April, 2011 Posted 29 April, 2011 What made him a Saints fan? he wanted to be different from everyone else at school by choosing a team no one else supported up here so chose a team down the bottom of the table, and that turned out to be saints!!!! he might have chose them out of sympathy but he's been loyal red'n'white from that day.
corky morris Posted 29 April, 2011 Posted 29 April, 2011 Dont do it mate!! My Mrs is from Cumbria & we are in the middle of the country & I would go back to Hampshire in a heart beat!! northyorksaint Posted 29 April, 2011 Posted 29 April, 2011 norwich drive is virtually opposite my house, i live in the bungalow next to the co-op, i got married up here and we had our reception at the "county" which was on the other side of skipton road from the empress, now an indian restaurant and was run at the time by no other than Jim McCalliog!!! my wife still dont believe me to this day that i hadnt chose this venue just because it was run by a saints legend! I love it up here and ive never regretted moving here, yes its a trek getting to games but a small price to pay to live here, the other ex pats feel the same way (just a consideration for you the next time the mrs brings the subject up again! ;-) )

My Mum's side of the family are from theYorkshire coalmining towns, yorkshire's a beautiful county. your right about this forum, for the first five years or so after i moved up i used to travel to games on my own, then i found this forum and via this found a network of people based in the north to go to games with, even now (as this thread proves) you find connections with other people as well.

View From The Top Posted 29 April, 2011 Posted 29 April, 2011 miserable sod D ;-) I'm concerned that the lasses are developing a hybrid Stokie/YamYam accent! Much prefer them to sound like farmers!
northyorksaint Posted 29 April, 2011 Posted 29 April, 2011 I'm concerned that the lasses are developing a hybrid Stokie/YamYam accent! Much prefer them to sound like farmers! id agree with that, not a great accent to have! dont mind mine having yorkshire accents though.
yorkie Posted 29 April, 2011 Posted 29 April, 2011 You would mind if you lived closer to Hull - afternoon fellow Yorkshire based fans! Going down for Walsall - anyone else going down for the weekend?

hamster Posted 29 April, 2011 Posted 29 April, 2011 (edited) that's beautiful Hamster xxx I'll tell you something else that's beautiful T, I only found out today that princess Kate is from a coalmining background too and suddenly fell in love with her, seriously. I have also been listening to a song my mum loves by Loretta Lyn - coalminers daughter, and it made me cry. Gonna see her in a while (she's not well) and I just know I'm gonna cry again. I know this because I am gonna play it to her on my phone and she's gonna sing it for me. See what this stupid bloody weddings gone and done! Edited 29 April, 2011 by hamster

lettuce Posted 29 April, 2011 Posted 29 April, 2011 Any Cheshire based Saints on here? Cheshire born, bred 'n butter, but now living in the West Mids. The Saints are loved far and away beyond Southampton!

I used to visit a couple of former Uni mates in Harrogate, and remember the name 'Claro Beagle'. A regular haunt was The County pub, is it still there and thriving ? (I am going back to the 1980's though).

Dont think i ever went in the county, there are plenty of good pubs in Harrogate and some cracking clothes shops as well for a small place.
jam Posted 29 April, 2011 Posted 29 April, 2011 Cheshire born, bred 'n butter, but now living in the West Mids. The Saints are loved far and away beyond Southampton! So how did you end up with Saints?
Lallana's Left Peg Posted 29 April, 2011 Posted 29 April, 2011 I live in Manchester but I was born in Southampton! Tend to go to all the away games I can - furthest South I travel is Coventry. Don't get to St Marys too often.
lettuce Posted 29 April, 2011 Posted 29 April, 2011 So how did you end up with Saints? Don't know really. There are plenty of clubs to choose from near where I grew up, although no footy team in my home (rugby league) town, but none of them struck a chord with me. I'm naturally drawn to support the underdog, so Saints obviously appealed in the late 80's when I started following football, which fortunately coincided with a certain channel-islander breaking into the first team... A classic moment was being labelled a "glory-hunter" by some of my Man Utd supporting pals following the 3-1 and 6-3 drubbings at The Dell
