The9 Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 ...Exhibit A : http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~2348762,00.html "Wear your colours this weekend to create a sea of red and white", with links to the online store, and encouraging people to buy flags, shirts etc. Except that on both Saturday AND Monday Saints are playing in their black change kit, and on Saturday any "sea of red and white" will make us completely indistinguishable from the home fans. Sometimes I do wonder about the desperate need for the club to create and then shift this stuff... I think I'd mind marginally less if it wasn't aimed at fans who don't know this, who are then disappointed to find they've been duped. On the bright side the away kit is now 50% off, so you might want to try for "a sea of black" instead.
sotonjoe Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 Well done Einstein. Except that red and white are the club colours; hence why we want to create a sea of red and white. Kits come and go, including away kits of all manner of colours, and yet the club colours will always be red and white. Don't let that stop you rolling your eyes though.
doggface Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 No the9 is right, for the weekend it will look like a "sea of brentford". Argyle is green so the red & white will stand out so not bothered about that one.
Nexstar Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 Most pointless thread of the season. Common sense also seems to be lacking in you saying we'll be in black on Monday, seeing as Plymouth wore their home strip when they came to St. Mary's.
manji Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 Well done you've finally found something to moan about. Wouldnt happen if there was a fan on the board.................

Yeah, cos I've only checked what the club has already said about it.

SNSUN Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 I reckon it should be a sea of white and red, in that order.
70's Mike Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 Due to the policies at brentford and plymouth it is more like a pond of red and white, have no sympathy for either club if they are short of money, plymouth administrator must have little influence if he is prepared to lose money
StVince1966 Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 money needs to be spent in the club shop? so many on this forum value their season ticket which they regard as making them more of a supporter, but what is a season ticket? a much cheaper access to the stadium!
Ekelund24 Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 That sounds like the club subconsciously telling fans to buy products and go in the home end on Saturday, if you look closely at the text it also says put on a **** van Dyke accent!
saintjinksie Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 Might get myself an away shirt before they sell out if they are 50% off
The9 Posted 28 April, 2011 Author Posted 28 April, 2011 (edited) Don't Plymouth play in green any more? Yes, but various Saints programmes which show which shirts we'll be wearing have us down as playing in black. Probably because our white shorts and dark socks clash with their white shorts and dark green socks so they've decided to change the whole thing. Pretty sure we need to wear any away kit a certain number of times per season as well, so we're probably doing it to meet the rules - and Plymouth were highly unlikely to wear their change kit at St Mary's, as it's white. Either way, we're supposed to be playing in black, and it's just a little dishonest to push the idea of buying things in the normal home colours specifically to support the team when they're playing away in different colours. The9 Posted 28 April, 2011 Author Posted 28 April, 2011 (edited) Well done you've finally found something to moan about. Wouldnt happen if there was a fan on the board................. You must have me confused with someone who was bothered whether there was a fan on the board. For the record I think consultation with your customers is a good thing for any business, and launching misleading if not outright false advertising campaigns to shift end of season leftovers isn't the kind of thing a good organisation does for the people who buy their products. I have no problem with them saying "buy Saints crap, it's cheap and you can take it to the last home game !", I do have a problem with them saying "buy red and white crap that we're desperate to get rid of, even though we're not going to be doing the red and white thing ourselves in either of these matches". Thedelldays Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 are we really playing in black at home park..?
The9 Posted 28 April, 2011 Author Posted 28 April, 2011 money needs to be spent in the club shop? so many on this forum value their season ticket which they regard as making them more of a supporter, but what is a season ticket? a much cheaper access to the stadium! So you're saying if you don't buy tickets to all 23 matches separately you're not a real fan, right ?

Griffo Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 The colours that our fans are wearing will have no difference on the result at Brentford or Plymouth. But, standing and making lots of noise will, so let's do that instead of worrying about what kit we're playing in or what kit our fans are wearing.
Thedelldays Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 again, are we playing in black on monday..? guess not...
Fan The Flames Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 are we really playing in black at home park..? Why, do you want to co-ordinate your face paint and jesters hat.
The9 Posted 28 April, 2011 Author Posted 28 April, 2011 again, are we playing in black on monday..? The match programme I've seen says we are.
Thedelldays Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 The match programme I've seen says we are. ok...guess we will find out monday would be a surprise seeing argyle played in green at sms

But, standing and making lots of noise will, so let's do that instead of worrying about what kit we're playing in or what kit our fans are wearing. I can do both, they're not mutually exclusive. Would be nice if the club hadn't decided to chose a match against a team in red and white to try and sell red and white stuff, whether people want to buy the kit or not. They must have a ton of red and white junk too, you'd think they'd be trying to get rid of the black replica kits at £20 a pop first...
The9 Posted 28 April, 2011 Author Posted 28 April, 2011 ok...guess we will find out monday would be a surprise seeing argyle played in green at sms Have you even read the rest of this thread ? Their away kit is white, so they're hardly likely to have worn it against us when we play in predominantly white at home.

The9 Posted 28 April, 2011 Author Posted 28 April, 2011 thanks for pointing out what colour their away kit is...I missed that whilst living here Sorry, I had assumed that you already understood the other part of the concept, which was that teams don't both wear the same colour shirts in matches against each other. My mistake.
Pat from Poole Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 Well done Einstein. Except that red and white are the club colours; hence why we want to create a sea of red and white. Kits come and go, including away kits of all manner of colours, and yet the club colours will always be red and white. Don't let that stop you rolling your eyes though. The9's point is entirely valid. Though as Griffo says, I'd far rather have 2,500 Saints fans at Plymouth making a deafening racket than most of them wearing red and white. That sort of thing is why most people think Newcastle fans are a joke.
Thedelldays Posted 29 April, 2011 Posted 29 April, 2011 Sorry, I had assumed that you already understood the other part of the concept, which was that teams don't both wear the same colour shirts in matches against each other. My mistake. Well they managed it at SMS ok with saints wearing their home kit
StVince1966 Posted 29 April, 2011 Posted 29 April, 2011 you are no more of a fan regardless of how you buy your tickets you are no more of a fan how many tickets you buy either. this chip on the shoulder some season ticket holders have has always seemed to me a snobish attitude towards supporting a club? i have been a season ticket holder on and off for over 40 years currently i am not am i less of a fan because of it?
Steeleye Saint Posted 29 April, 2011 Posted 29 April, 2011 The9 is totally correct - Brentford play in red and white stripes - so why deck our fans out in red and white? At the cup final against Arsenal did we all go in red and white? No, we went in yellow and sang for the yellows. Red and white at Brentford is akin to our supporters singing "Come on you reds" at home when the opposition are in all red!
niceandfriendly Posted 29 April, 2011 Posted 29 April, 2011 Oh The9 it just really doesn't matter does it? The club are trying to sell merchandise and our colours have been red and white for years. It happens. No, Wait...We're not playing in red and white this Saturday? Well you can't wear your red and white shirt then!!! Them's the rules! No but seriously, why do you get so worked up over nothing? You're going to give yourself a heart attack mate. I recommend a brandy and a couple of cheeky tokes, will chill you right out.
Steeleye Saint Posted 29 April, 2011 Posted 29 April, 2011 No, Wait...We're not playing in red and white this Saturday? Well you can't wear your red and white shirt then!!! T Yes but the point is the club are saying we should!
Give it to Ron Posted 29 April, 2011 Posted 29 April, 2011 Yes but the point is the club are saying we should! Do you do everything the OS says you should do.....Much Ado about Nothing!
AK Posted 29 April, 2011 Posted 29 April, 2011 are we really playing in black at home park..? Yes we are- I know the boy who is our mascot and he has been told to wear the away kit
Thedelldays Posted 29 April, 2011 Posted 29 April, 2011 Yes we are- I know the boy who is our mascot and he has been told to wear the away kit oh well...no biggy really then is it.
Window Cleaner Posted 29 April, 2011 Posted 29 April, 2011 Now if I was a dreadful cynic I might even think that the club was trying to profit from a couple of factors this week-end. The Saints situation and general enthusiasm about promotion ..which is good, also the extra bank holiday and the general liesse occasioned by the Royal Moneyspinner might just prise open wallets and purses a little bit so the club won't want to miss out.No point in letting other enterprises profit from the ephemeral feelgood factor and miss out yourself..
