St Chalet Posted 27 April, 2011 Posted 27 April, 2011 (edited) As it says. First round is the top 14 players by starts, I have swapped Seaborne in for Puncheon for obvious reasons. This first poll will run until after Plymouth game. If no one player gets 50% then we'll have a run-off poll with the top two with a view to getting a result by final Walsall game. You will note that the election system mirrors a little bit of AV and little bit of FPTP - just to keep you all happy Edited 27 April, 2011 by St Chalet Making rules clear.
Chris Larkin Posted 27 April, 2011 Posted 27 April, 2011 Jose Fonte, who has been absolutely excellent this season. Adam Lallana for me a close second, but he's not played so many games due to being injured recently.
hamster Posted 27 April, 2011 Posted 27 April, 2011 I've voted for the player who's brought me the excitement facto back. I know he won't win outright but fwiw brazillian skills don't come around that often to clubs like ours and when we start singing the Guky song it's usually when the team are really firing nag showing total synergy. Next round will be difficult though and I'd prefer to see a final trio rather than a two horse race.
Saint_clark Posted 27 April, 2011 Posted 27 April, 2011 We've had some great performers this season, but there is only one winner for me - Fonte.
Saintandy666 Posted 27 April, 2011 Posted 27 April, 2011 I believe the system we are using is called 'Supplementary Vote'
SNSUN Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 For me, the solid defence has been key to our success and excellent goal difference. I was going for Lallana but Fonte's nicked it recently.
CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 Put it this way - when Adam Lallana is missing we look very average indeed, surely the sign of what is not only a quality player but a vitally important one too. Mind I wouldn't argue with the those voting for Jose Fonte - he's been superb.

Fonte for me with Lallana a close second.
doddisalegend Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 It has to be Lallana for me becuase a) Without him we look half the team we do when he is playing b) he is clearly the best player in the league let alone saints Fonte has been great this season though.
wild-saint Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 Lallana should get every vote IMO. Fonte a close second. Without Lallana we would not get promotion over a whole season . Without fonte I think we would have got a play off position at least.
NickG Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 Good seasons and played a significant role ; Butterfield / Guly / Jaidi / Harding / Morgan / Barnard - all had good seasons and played important part Two partticularly good this season; Lambert / Davis But two stand out contenders for me, and very close but; 1) Fonte 2) Lallana
Son of Bob Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 I think Fonte and Lallana are good enough for the Premier League and I hope to see them playing for us there some day soon! Fonte shades it for me though.
Son of Bob Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 A special mention to Jaidi though as 'most improved'. I'm not sure where that came from but he's had a very solid season, especially towards the end.
LGTL Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 I can't choose between Fonte and Lallana, they both equally deserve it for totally different reasons.
Saint Charlie Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 Fonte purely because he has consistently been excellent. If Lallana had played the same amount of games then would have gone for him.
trousers Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 Fonte purely because he has consistently been excellent. If Lallana had played the same amount of games then would have gone for him. I don't look at it from the 'number of games' played perspective. I look at the players' overall impact on our performances over the course of the season. By comparison, if Lallana came on for the last half hour of a game and scored a hattrick to secure a 3-0 win for Saints, who would get man-of-the-match? Fonte for helping to keep a clean sheet for 90 mins or Lallana for engineering the 3-0 victory? Lallana every time for me.
Nexstar Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 Fonte has been incredibly consistent throughout the season, and I could only think of 1 or 2 off days. However, when in the side Lallana is everything to the team, without him we struggle and with him we carve teams open at will.
thesaint sfc Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 We would be in an entirely different league position without having Fonte this season. He really has been a rock. Our most effective important defender for a very long time - I'd probably even say since Killer!
Spudders Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 It's great to have a few strong contenders this season and I can totally understand why some people are saying we'd have been nothing without Lallana, but for me I'd go for Fonte.
The9 Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 1. Fonte 2. Lallana 3. Barnard If nothing else, this proves the infinite number of monkeys theory.

Fonte has been brilliant, but he's been brilliant in some 0-0 draws which have messed up our promotion push - and we've also coped well enough without him on a few rare occasions . Meanwhile, whenever Lallana's missing we have some kind of crisis of creativity, and numerous times this season we've changed the entire midfield system to cope with his absence. But they're both head and shoulders above anyone else.
Spudders Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 Fonte has been brilliant, but he's been brilliant in some 0-0 draws which have messed up our promotion push The arguement against this though, is that had he not been brilliant in those games we may not have even got a point, we could have lost by several goals
eelpie Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 It has to be Fonte over Lallana for me because he is the main reason that we have had such a good defence and such a splendid goal difference which with our extra game in hand is why we are favourites for promotion at this stage. Lallana would undoubtedly be my first choice had he not been injured for crucial stages of the season (and perhaps deserves it for his determined efforts at recovery) but he has also been unlucky in that a few of his on-target shots have not gone into the net. Tough choice. We can build an unbeatable team around these two if we go up.
Redbul Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 Thought long and hard about this but settled on Fonte. He has been an absolute rock in defence this year and is playing way above the level needed for this league. Lallana was a close second and Barnard was a contender too for absolute commitment to the cause and also for showing no respect whatsoever for kicking Scholes up in the air in the cup game!!!
saints-cris Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 Fonte. Too good for this league, and scored some important goals too. He's absoloutely immense for us. As important as Lallana, just at the other end of the pitch.
trousers Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 Does anyone have Lallana's and Fonte's match stats to hand? i.e. games played, win/draw/lose percentage when playing, etc. Cheers
Window Cleaner Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 (edited) An absolute no brainer. Not only has Fonté been an ever present (apart from a 1 match suspension and a day off in the cup) in a very stingy defence but he's also scored the same number of league goals as Lallana. from what I remember Fonte was absent when Brentford turned us over and the effect on our defence was plain for all to see. Foxstone Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 Fonte and Lallana are our class players and perhaps the obvious choices but I went for Barnard.. Maybe not the most talented, but he has given nothing less than 100% in every game he has played for us - Fantastic never say die attitude that has on occasions rubbed off onto his team mates and driven us forward.
simondo Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 1. Fonte 2. Lallana 3. Barnard i agree... clearly alpine_saint does know what he is talking about!

niceandfriendly Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 Fonte has been superb but there is nobody in this league who even comes close to being as good a footballer as Lallana is. It's amazing how we kept hold of him, he has a huge future in the game. Doesn't matter how many games AL has played, he's been the best player by a huge distance. JF had a pretty poor spell midway through the season and is still prone to making the odd mistake, whereas I can't remember ever seeing Lallana do anything wrong. Fonte is great, but Lallana is god.
trousers Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 An absolute no brainer Which is precisely why I went for Lallana....I have no brain
Lighthouse Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 Lallana and Barnard have been excellent for us this season, however both were in and out the team a bit at the start of the year through injury. Fonte has been class all season, so he JUST edges it over the other two.
SNSUN Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 Good seasons and played a significant role ; Butterfield / Guly / Jaidi / Harding / Morgan / Barnard - all had good seasons and played important part Two partticularly good this season; Lambert / Davis But two stand out contenders for me, and very close but; 1) Fonte 2) Lallana No Chamberlain? I can understand missing Hammond out of the good slot as his form wavers, but before his injury, and remember it was his first season, I'd have Chamberlain under the particularly good slot.
The Cat Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 Can this poll be for people who actually go and watch the team play rather than those who are pretty much just guessing?

Petersfield Saint Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 1. Fonte 2. Lallana 3. Barnard Agree with Alps; ignore the abuse mate
Turkish Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 Fonte has been superb but there is nobody in this league who even comes close to being as good a footballer as Lallana is. JF had a pretty poor spell midway through the season and is still prone to making the odd mistake, whereas I can't remember ever seeing Lallana do anything wrong. Fonte is great, but Lallana is god. That is because they are totally different players, a misplaced pass, mistimed tackle or header from Fonte would likely lead to a goal scoring opportunity for the opposition, if Lallana did this then it's much further up the pitch and less noticable. Lallana is a great footballer at this level and NPC level but we Fonte has been the best defender i've seen this season, he is just a class act and the 19 clean sheets are down in no small part to him. Plus he scored one of the most crucial goals of our season on saturday, for those reasons he gets my vote, by a whisker ahead of Lallana.
