Minty Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 Today's hard copy of the Echo (tried to find this on the web site but cannot?) has two articles. Noone telling how much they (including the bitter man) wanted to beat us. The bitter man now trotting out the excuse 'what with the trophy being presented and the last game at the Withdean it's going to be hard to focus my players on the game'. IF Brighton were contemplating throwing the game (and that is still a big IF), then they would be liable for a charge from the FA for bringing the game into disrepute. Now, we are not stupid and know they probably could do it if they wanted to, without it looking like they've thrown the game, but the players and staff of Brighton would throw away any semblance of integrity and professionalism if they were to even contemplate doing that. If a team is good enough, they should prove it on the pitch, and be prepared to prove it against others on the pitch. As much as they might not like us, to give any kind of advantage to another side would be as bad as any match fixing charge IMO.
The9 Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 No a question of questioning their professionalism, it's more a question of whether they're good enough to beat Huddersfield. Judging by that live game on Sky, I don't think they're all that... I was questioning their professionalism for the first half against Colchester, and no mistake.
The9 Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 Agree with this. Think Murray may also be injured, he's a big miss for them. Huddersfield will be unbeaten until the end of the season. Murray was certainly injured when he chucked himself on his shoulder against Saints, and went off (eventually) holding his arm to sympathetic chants of "she fell over". He tried to gesticulate at us about it, but his arm hurt too much. I laughed. As the bloke in the Brighton kit on the train back to Fareham said, "Murray's the one who holds the ball up for us, once he'd gone off we didn't have anyone to do that and had to hope Bennett could do something on his own". They have had a week to work on playing with Noone on the left instead of Murray up there, but I'm not sure how bothered they're going to be. On the bright side, the excitement should have worn off by now, and they'll be thinking they should be proving why they're champions on the day they get the trophy after being made to look cack for a couple of matches.
hughieslastminutegoal Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 I think the Brighton team are on their hols already.Look at their defending at their last game.I also think they will use this game to try a few fringe players. Expect a determined Huddersfield team to try and win at any cost, then i think its only going to end one way and thats with Brighton losing. So much on their holidays that without 2 very late goals we would have lost.
Window Cleaner Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 So much on their holidays that without 2 very late goals we would have lost. they also came back from 1 down against Colchester, overmuch is being made of all this.I mean if we're promoted on Saturday are we going to throw it against Plymouth and Walsall, you bet your old boots we ain't. For one thing Nige and Nicola wouldn't tolerate it.Players holidays rarely start the day the season ends you know. Some Huddersfield fans might even think Brighton let us win for a bigger home gate in 1 fixture next season.
rocknrollman no2 Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 So much on their holidays that without 2 very late goals we would have lost. I didnt mean the game against us,because for some weird reason they were up for that .But in their game after, they seemed like they didnt care.
The9 Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 I didnt mean the game against us,because for some weird reason they were up for that .But in their game after, they seemed like they didnt care. If you believe some of their fans, they weren't up for it against us either. So apparently their natural game is cynical and timewasting even when they're not bothered. As for the Colchester match, they were gash for 60 minutes then started playing for the last half hour. FWIW I thought their goal might have been offside too
corsacar saint Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 As long as we beat Brentford it does not matter what Huddersfield do,although I can see vthem winning at Brighton on saturday.
saints-cris Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 As long as we beat Brentford it does not matter what Huddersfield do,although I can see vthem winning at Brighton on saturday. Exactly. Us first, worry about others later. If we do the business, it doesnt matter in the slightest what they do. Would make me lol if Brighton threw it and we went up anyway.
Nexstar Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 I am getting increasingly worried about Brighton rolling over for Huddersfield and us getting a draw at Brentford. Would leave us need to win both of our final games.
Professor Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 I'd like Huddersfield to win at Brighton and I expect them to win their last game at home to Brentford. That will put Huddersfield on 89 points. I'd like Brighton to follow up their defeat by Huddersfield by losing their last game away to Notts County. That would leave Brighton on 94 points. We only need to win 2 games out of 3 to get the 89 points that make promotion certain but wouldn't it be great to win all three and finish on 92 points. These results would have us just 2 points below Brighton and 3 clear of Huddersfield and a very satisfactory final table, given the poor start to the season.
NickG Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 and Poyet could say "lucky we had that headstart as I have been unable to keep up with Adkins"

Poyets already virtually stating they will loose - he is so bitter that throwing the game would not surprise me - if he did of course which I think he may do!
Appy Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 I think anyone that thinks Brighton will throw this game needs their head checked.
saintjinksie Posted 28 April, 2011 Posted 28 April, 2011 who cares, we win three games we go up. FACT. If we can beat Brighton at their place we should beat anyone. Not enough positivity. We concern ourselves with other teams too much... Adkins included
Kingsbridge Saint Posted 29 April, 2011 Posted 29 April, 2011 who cares, we win three games we go up. Agree with this. Thankfully Adkins is focused on Brentford alone. Brighton managing to get up and take something off Huddersfield would be a bonus.

Obviously you still get the odd anti-saints nobber piping up now and again.
Thedelldays Posted 30 April, 2011 Posted 30 April, 2011 (edited) I think brighton will not lose this one...a draw me thinks brighton have lost 1 game at home all season and were desperate to win that... I think they want 100 points still and the last game was a shocker and we beatthem before that.. greer is back for them and I will be amazed if they fail to score at home... 1-1 for me (and hope) all well and good brighton fans saying their players have lost their motivation....how the hell would they know..? the did not lose it when they played us and the last game poyet said he would make some changes for that..I expect to see a stong line up today Edited 30 April, 2011 by Thedelldays
ghq Posted 30 April, 2011 Posted 30 April, 2011 In my opinion, Brighton have done an enviable job to date, but I think that having concentrated on winning the league, that same concentration may have slipped a little. Good luck to them, I hope they win, but not holding my breath.

He gets around, that boy.
Seagull Posted 30 April, 2011 Posted 30 April, 2011 all well and good brighton fans saying their players have lost their motivation....how the hell would they know..? Take it you didnt see our performance at Colchester then? There's no chance of us throwing the game to spite Saints, whether we win or not, no idea, hope we do. Hudds a very good team though and have a lot to play for so I'm not overly confident.
Thedelldays Posted 30 April, 2011 Posted 30 April, 2011 trouble is...fans think the players and managers think like them...when in fact..they probably think nothing like fans....the players who play will want 100 points, they will want their win bonus for that game..the goalie will want his clean sheet bonus, the strikers will want their goal bonus...whether they go into hard for 50/50s is another matter..but you can bet the players will want to win...especially as they were beaten on their own patch (and desperately wanted to win) and were very poor in their last game.. if we are promoted at argyle...I still could not see saints having a giggle and a kick about against wallsall

Hudds a very good team though and have a lot to play for so I'm not overly confident. it seems Adkins was right as soon as you have to face a challenge you bottle it! If we could have got closer by playing the games we had called off earlier you lot may have cracked
Deppo Posted 30 April, 2011 Posted 30 April, 2011 (edited) Personally, I think that if Brighton continue this poor form until the end of the season, they are nailing their own coffin for next year. They will go into next year without the confidence and the sense of unbeatability that has won them plenty of games alone this year. They will realise they are fallible and that obstinate side that never said die and won them games at the death this year will be no more. Silly mistake from Poyet, IMO. Deppo Posted 30 April, 2011 Posted 30 April, 2011 Oh yeh, and Brighton WILL win today. I am certain of it.
saint lard Posted 30 April, 2011 Posted 30 April, 2011 Brighton have named a very strong starting 11 today, according to Solent.
Deppo Posted 30 April, 2011 Posted 30 April, 2011 Brighton have named a very strong starting 11 today, according to Solent. Brezovan; Calderon, Greer, Elphick, Painter; Bridcutt, Dicker, Noone, Bennett; Wood, Barnes.
Thedelldays Posted 30 April, 2011 Posted 30 April, 2011 Brezovan, Calderon, Elphick, Greer, Painter, Bennett, Dicker, Bridcutt, Noone, Wood, Barnes looks like their strongest possible side..
Colinjb Posted 30 April, 2011 Posted 30 April, 2011 Brezovan, Calderon, Elphick, Greer, Painter, Bennett, Dicker, Bridcutt, Noone, Wood, Barnes They really don't want to leave Withdean on a whimper. Good news. Come on you Seagulls.
Matthew Le God Posted 30 April, 2011 Posted 30 April, 2011 Keeper change though. Casper Ankergren was injured and came off with a dead leg in their last game. Good to see they are putting out a strong team.
up and away Posted 30 April, 2011 Posted 30 April, 2011 IF Brighton were contemplating throwing the game (and that is still a big IF), then they would be liable for a charge from the FA for bringing the game into disrepute. We have seen this so many times before and the FL will do nothing, that's just the way the toast lands. Brighton have earned the right to throw games, just as we can. But Poyet will be like a dog eating his tail at the moment, he hates everyone equally and Lee Clarke is no exception. Lee Clarke has opened himself up in giving that guard of honour, which may well leave a deserved taste come 16:50.
Gorgiesaint Posted 30 April, 2011 Posted 30 April, 2011 Haha, Ray Parlour on Talksport just raised the point as to whether Brighton would prefer to lose today so Huddersfield go up!! Don't think he realised Ankergren & Murray were injured though.
Lord Duckhunter Posted 30 April, 2011 Posted 30 April, 2011 I've no worries on that score. You dont get to be a top player as Poyet was without being a bad loser. Neither he or his side will want to lose today, however sides with nothing to play for do tend to relax and even the top sides ease off once they've won the League. Brentford with nothing to play for, or Brighton with nothing to play for, both are beatable and should be put to bed if either us or Town deserve promotion.Plymouth and Walsall are slightly different, they have something to play for. If Town win and we lose, it wont be down to Poyet or Brighton.
Thedelldays Posted 30 April, 2011 Posted 30 April, 2011 been listening to it on player apart from hudds goal..it has litterally been all brighton..they have done everything but score
St.Patrik Posted 30 April, 2011 Posted 30 April, 2011 Brighton will win - for gods sake its the last game at their old stadium - it´s almost a law that say that they will win...
Colinjb Posted 30 April, 2011 Posted 30 April, 2011 Brighton will win - for gods sake its the last game at their old stadium - it´s almost a law that say that they will win... #Ahem# Michael Svensson at Maine Road.
St.Patrik Posted 30 April, 2011 Posted 30 April, 2011 I actually just remembered that after I had hit the enter button....
saints-cris Posted 30 April, 2011 Posted 30 April, 2011 If Brighton score next I reckno they'll win. Hudds wil have to go at them surely.
Huffton Posted 30 April, 2011 Posted 30 April, 2011 F ucking useless no good bunch of over rated w@nkers. I will have huge pleasure watching them plummet back into league 1 next season at the first attempt. I
