Lighthouse Posted 27 April, 2011 Posted 27 April, 2011 No, I reckon Udders will beat Brighton and we get 4 points from our next 2 games. This is going to the wire.
Matthew Le God Posted 27 April, 2011 Posted 27 April, 2011 I reckon we will be up this weekend Officially it won't be this weekend, no matter what happens at Griffin Park and the Withdean. Yes, it could be pretty much up barring a monumental goal difference swing, but you won't see a (p) on any League One table next to Saints until Monday at the earliest.
Thedelldays Posted 27 April, 2011 Posted 27 April, 2011 Officially it won't be this weekend, no matter what happens at Griffin Park and the Withdean. So you won't see a (p) on any League table until Monday at the earliest. oh, fuk off...ffs

So you won't see a (p) on any League table until Monday at the earliest. This. It will be confirmed at the Walsall home game.... but hopefully that will just be a formality.
The9 Posted 27 April, 2011 Posted 27 April, 2011 But you are a slightly mental optimist, 28_F. However, I will counter the obvious stream of "mathematically certain" blatherers* by pointing out that if we win and Huddersfield lose this weekend, they'd be 3 points behind and their GD will be at least 15 goals worse than ours with them only having one match to play (and us needing to lose both to mess it up). From that position for us not to go up the scores for those three matches would all have to average out at a 5-goal advantage to Huddersfield, i.e. them winning by 5 and us losing by 5 twice, against two teams in the bottom 5. Which is mathematically extremely unlikely, if not "certain". Having said all that I think the chances of us beating Brentford are only slightly greater than of Hudd beating Brighton, so if it happens, awesome. *EDIT : Too late.

Saints beat Brentford 3-1 Brighton beat Hudds 2-1 What results do you see keeping us from being promoted in the next two games?
Window Cleaner Posted 27 April, 2011 Posted 27 April, 2011 After the Plymouth game although Huddersfield might still be able to overtake us by scoring 15 more goals than us in their last game...which won't happen. Brighton will fold on Saturday.
NickG Posted 27 April, 2011 Author Posted 27 April, 2011 most likely results this weekend from bookies are wins for us and Brighton.
Thedelldays Posted 27 April, 2011 Posted 27 April, 2011 most likely results this weekend from bookies are wins for us and Brighton. the argyle fans I know are praying for this outcome......
doddisalegend Posted 27 April, 2011 Posted 27 April, 2011 No, I reckon Udders will beat Brighton and we get 4 points from our next 2 games. This is going to the wire. this^^^ the Brighton players are mentally all ready on holiday can see hudders dispatching them with out to much trouble (happy to be wrong though). Brentford are down to the bare bones of a team (thanks to injuries) by all accounts great for us sadly they also have to play hudders. Plymouth are fighting for thier lives and have got that siege mentality us against the world thing going on now and they can still beat the drop so I wouldn't be surprised if we don't get anything from that game. Leaves us having to beat wallsall (who are also fighting for their lives) However I really fancy us against anyone at SMS so can see us winning that one. All in All looks like a down to the wire deal to me,.
Window Cleaner Posted 27 April, 2011 Posted 27 April, 2011 (edited) the argyle fans I know are praying for this outcome...... They be deluded then. If they think we'll let them beat us for old time's sake that is. We'll probably crush them, who knows we might have Ox and Morgan back for a run-out in that game.Any other result will bring about "Saints let them have 125K for Stephens to keep afloat and then helped them out with a weak side" accusations from the other relegation candidates.Thet'll be another 2 or 3 teams that hate us then. Edited 27 April, 2011 by Window Cleaner
Nexstar Posted 27 April, 2011 Posted 27 April, 2011 I think this weekend will go one of two ways - we'll win and Huddersfield will lose and we're basically there. Or Huddersfield will win and we'll draw, making Plymouth a MASSIVE game for both sides.
NickG Posted 27 April, 2011 Author Posted 27 April, 2011 Saints beat Brentford 3-1 Brighton beat Hudds 2-1 What results do you see keeping us from being promoted in the next two games? Just done bbc predictor Saints 3 Brentford 1 Brighton 2 Hudds 1 Plymouth 2 Saints 0 Hudds 4 Brentford 0 Saints 0 Wallsall 10 Still has us promoted. Can't see Wallsall putting 11 past us

We'll probably crush them, who knows we might have Ox and Morgan back for a run-out in that game. no, of course we wont..but if we are already up, we may well do a "brighton" and do a bit more rotation and not give it our all....saying that, could not see adkins allowing that but you can see their point
NickG Posted 27 April, 2011 Author Posted 27 April, 2011 most likely results this weekend from bookies are wins for us and Brighton. the argyle fans I know are praying for this outcome...... having they placed big bets to save their club?
Matthew Le God Posted 27 April, 2011 Posted 27 April, 2011 oh, fuk off...ffs Saints beat Brentford 3-1 Brighton beat Hudds 2-1 What results do you see keeping us from being promoted in the next two games? Yes I know results like that would make promotion 99.99% likely to happen, but the point is it is 99.99% and not 100%. You asked the question when are we going up, and no (p) will be next to Saints on any official League table until Monday at the earliest. Yes, I know it is pointing out the obvious, but as we saw from Q.P.R., they aren't celebrating promotion properly yet and nor will Saints until officially confirmed.

LGTL Posted 27 April, 2011 Posted 27 April, 2011 I keep changing my mind with every hour that passes...
Matthew Le God Posted 27 April, 2011 Posted 27 April, 2011 look, if we win sat and huddersfield lose, we are promoted No, we would be extremely likely to be promoted. But not actually promoted. Just like Q.P.R. haven't done their open top bus tour yet.

dune Posted 27 April, 2011 Posted 27 April, 2011 Griffin Park would be a most fitting place to gain promotion.
NickG Posted 27 April, 2011 Author Posted 27 April, 2011 Matthew Le God to even it out a bit Saints 1 Brentford 0 Brighton 1 Hudds 0 Plymouth 5 Saints 0 Hudds 5 Brentford 0 Saints 0 Wallsall 5 Has us still being promoted. If both us and Brighton win - we are promoted.

Let's celebrate when (and if) it is certain and thereby not live up to our growing arrogant reputation. Weren't we 12 points clear at the top at Easter in 1949 and then failed to win a game? Not sure of the exact details as I was only two years old...

Yes, I know it is pointing out the obvious, but as we saw from Q.P.R., they aren't celebrating promotion properly yet and nor will Saints until officially confirmed. QPR's is very very likely but a couple of 3-0's would be needed, ours would be much more likely needed the best defence in league that means that in last two games we would let in the amount of goals that it has just taken us 17 games to concede!
doddisalegend Posted 27 April, 2011 Posted 27 April, 2011 Probably because we had loads of injuries. Teams had about 12 players in those days. I'm sure I read that no subs were allowed in those days if a player was injuired he carried on on you played a man down.
Liquidshokk Posted 27 April, 2011 Posted 27 April, 2011 All this talk of promotion is gonna hurt sooooooooooo bad if we don't make it.
Shroppie Posted 27 April, 2011 Posted 27 April, 2011 I think we will be going up once we have more points than Huddersfield can possibly get. Chickens. Hatched. Don't count. etc.
trousers Posted 27 April, 2011 Posted 27 April, 2011 Huddersfield will beat Brighton Saints will draw at Brentford And, no, I don't have any finger nails left....
saints-cris Posted 27 April, 2011 Posted 27 April, 2011 Its Saints, it will be dragged out to the very end. I think Hudds will get at least a point on sat, annoyingly.
Armitage Shanks Posted 27 April, 2011 Posted 27 April, 2011 Saturday - Brighton 1 Huddersfield 1; Brentford 1 Saints 3 Monday - Plymouth 2 Saints 1 Saturday - Huddersfield 4 Brentford 0; Saints 2 Walsall 1 We go up on the final day but only needing a draw to do it, but we'll go 1 down early on

doddisalegend Posted 27 April, 2011 Posted 27 April, 2011 Saturday - Brighton 1 Huddersfield 1; Brentford 1 Saints 3 Monday - Plymouth 2 Saints 1 Saturday - Huddersfield 4 Brentford 0; Saints 2 Walsall 1 We go up on the final day but only needing a draw to do it, but we'll go 1 down early on I'll take that would make for a great final day.
The9 Posted 27 April, 2011 Posted 27 April, 2011 no, of course we wont..but if we are already up, we may well do a "brighton" and do a bit more rotation and not give it our all....saying that, could not see adkins allowing that but you can see their point We already just changed SIX players for our last match and have recently given a start to Gobern for the only time in the League this season, so I think we'll be squad rotating for Brentford/Plymouth in a very similar way to the Brighton/Hartlepool matches to keep the side as fresh as possible for Monday.
Window Cleaner Posted 27 April, 2011 Posted 27 April, 2011 I'm sure I read that no subs were allowed in those days if a player was injuired he carried on on you played a man down. Subs only started in about 67/68. Plenty of old cup finals finished with 10 a side,Wembley was a bit of a jinxed stadium. What I meant was that clubs didn't have 2 players for every position like they do now, they had a team and a few peripheral players to boot. When you had too many injuries you filled in with substandard players.Southampton used to have an "A" team which played in the Hampshire League, if there were a lot of first team injuries you might even have got a game.

OVER THE HILL Posted 27 April, 2011 Posted 27 April, 2011 IMO Huddersfield will win on Saturday, Brighton have nothing to play for,it will be party time.

thefunkygibbons Posted 27 April, 2011 Posted 27 April, 2011 Almost certain this weekend, but mathematically, after the Plymouth game
JonnyLove Posted 27 April, 2011 Posted 27 April, 2011 Saturday at 5pm. Well almost. We beat Brentford and Brighton beat Huddersfield. This will mean we are 3 points ahead and 1 game left for Huddersfield with a mamouth goal difference. Or knowing Saints we'll cock up the next two games and we sit there biting our nails on the 7th
Rusaldo Posted 27 April, 2011 Posted 27 April, 2011 I think we will match Huddersfield's result this weekend, a draw, and beat Plymouth by 2 clear goals on Monday to confirm (pretty much, 99% ect) Promotion
NickG Posted 27 April, 2011 Author Posted 27 April, 2011 IMO Huddersfield will win on Saturday, Brighton have nothing to play for,it will be party time. they won't want their season to drift out with 1 point from 3 games and the gap closing - their chip will be doing overdrive!
spyinthesky Posted 27 April, 2011 Posted 27 April, 2011 As a card carrying pessimist I see us coming third and losing to Bournemouth in the play off's Please no!!!
saint lard Posted 27 April, 2011 Posted 27 April, 2011 I am begining to feel very uncomfortable with all this talk as though we are over the line and we are promoted. Let's not talk about pitch invasions and speculative dates on when we are up. We would be heading for a very large fall if we don't make the automatic spot. What will happen will happen. All we can do is support them whole heartedly. This could pretty much sorted this weekend, the next game or go to the last game of the season. Or even 3 more games after that.
scotty Posted 27 April, 2011 Posted 27 April, 2011 this^^^ the Brighton players are mentally all ready on holiday can see hudders dispatching them with out to much trouble (happy to be wrong though). If so, they arent going to roll over at home even if it meant them shafting us (rolleyes thingy)
SNSUN Posted 27 April, 2011 Posted 27 April, 2011 We're definitely going up. We're not the Saints of old that threw things away. We have a professional way of performing and a great will to win. (He says with unfounded confidence!) That said, I predict a last day decider. We'll thrash Brentford, but Huddersfield will beat Brighton. We'll draw at Plymouth so beating Walsall will clinch it. Mind you my predictions switch almost hourly, Brighton may just win us second spot THIS weekend, in which case a point at Plymouth makes us mathematically promoted!
