Your help needed (Markus Liebherr Tribute) - DONATIONS SITE NOW LIVE

if you have read the current thread on Markus Liebherr Tributes you will know that I have been trying to get the giant flag sorted for the last game of the season v Walsall. Unfortunately this will not be possible now due to time constraints but I am pleased to say that I have had positive feedback from the club and we now have permission to go ahead for the 1st home game of next season providing certain safety measures are met.

I am currently in the process of setting up a Markus Liebherr tribute website where people will be able to use the Paypal Donate button I have set up to donate towards the cost of the flag. (Currently quoted £2700 for a 15m x 10m, the same size as the one Sheff Wed and Sunderland have used)

What I would like from you guys is your thoughts on what you want to see on the tribute website, for example, some text that you may have come across about him and / or a picture.

I intend also to have a "contributors" link on there where I will list all the names of those that have donated (with their permission of course).

Any help on this would be greatfully received.

**update**

Site is taking shape but am still struggling for content (images aside) so if anyone has anything they would like to add to a "Fans tribute" page, please PM me

Site is now live (will add more content if / when I get it!)

Thanks

Mike

As it is costing £2,700 it is going to be used on many occasions isn't it?

Just home games? Or would you ask away teams if we could use it with fire certificates etc?

Places like Barnsley away (fingers crossed for promotion) have huge away stands that aren't even a quarter full so I've seen away supports there with huge flags draped across seats.

Shame it cant be done at the last game of the season, would be a better tribute than first game of the new season. Especially as hopefully (fingers crossed) stage 1 of ML plans will be completed at the last home game of the season.

i know what you mean but i suppose you could always look at it from the viewpoint that the 1st day in the Championship is the NEXT stage of the 5 year plan...

thanks for all the suggestions so far. We do need to be careful with images though (unless they are your own), I dont fancy a licence issue. Would be nice to have a gallery and am waiting on a reply from someone else at the club on what we can use.

To answer the question about what happens if we dont get the target, the Ops guy said he thinks it very probable that the club in one form or another will help.

As for what happens to it after that, I thought the plan was to donate it to the saints foundation for auction?

I like the idea of it being at every home game just as the players are coming out or just before they come out. Would be a superb tribute.

Erm....not sure, I read it on the other thread. Think it was a 20m x 15m ? Someone in particular got a few quotes from various different flag companies.

i will find out how much the guys i got the quote from would charge for 20m x 15m.

I think it is important to look at the companies giving the quotes and how capable they are of creating giant flags - the bigger the flag, the bigger the technical challenge. More money does not necessarily result in a larger/better quality flag - some companies will give a big quote and simply outsource to somebody else!

ok, so far on the "home" page I ahve the following text...

"The purpose of this site is to raise funds to buy a giant "crowd surfer" flag in tribute to our owner, Markus Liebherr who sadly passed away on August 11th 2010

He came to the club in its darkest hour and saved us from a fate we dare not think about. His charm and passion for the club was there for all to see as he, donned with a Saints scarf, attended his first game at St Marys Stadium.

Now, we as fans want a fitting tribute to Markus as a way of saying, well, simply put..."Thank you"

Would anyone else like to add / alter it?

Will add more pages when I get permission from the club to use images etc.

The "watch" speech, do you think I can just use it?

Are you saying, for instance, that if you were choosing someone to create a bronze Ted Bates...

Also the first game of next season is likely to mark the game closest to 1 year since Markus' passing (10th August).

Well done Mike. Is there 'any' chance for the final game of the season if the donations came in quickly? Or is it just too late now? (not a problem either way, just asking out of interest) :)

even if we did raise the cash in time it takes 14 days to be made / delivered etc. Like someone else said earlier on here, it will be nice if we can get it for the start of the season around the 1 year anniversary of his death

Mike you're a hero for getting this started. Like others have said it's a shame we can't get it done for Walsall but it gives us plenty of time to create something special.

I personally would like to see the flag kept by supporters, well, us, Mike, whoever, and taken to as many games as possible if permitted by each individual club. However this isn't something we need to worry about now, we could have a poll once the flag is made to decide it's fate.

Thanks again Mike, I look forward to donating.
