georgeweahscousin Posted 26 April, 2011 Posted 26 April, 2011 (edited) Awesome on Monday, PFA Team of the year. Unsung hero? Certainly time for some people to get off his back in my opinion. Edited 26 April, 2011 by georgeweahscousin
Lighthouse Posted 26 April, 2011 Posted 26 April, 2011 Can't remember a better free signing in 10 years of watching Saints.
LGTL Posted 26 April, 2011 Posted 26 April, 2011 I never realised anybody was on his back? We are very lucky to have him and Dickson fighting it out.
Window Cleaner Posted 26 April, 2011 Posted 26 April, 2011 Can't remember a better free signing in 10 years of watching Saints. True, we need to get his contract sorted out for next season...if it hasn't been done already. He'll no doubt get other offers though if he's available on a free.
georgeweahscousin Posted 26 April, 2011 Author Posted 26 April, 2011 I never realised anybody was on his back? We are very lucky to have him and Dickson fighting it out. I find Saints fans are generally split on him. A lot on twitter were moaning about his selection on Saturday.
Window Cleaner Posted 26 April, 2011 Posted 26 April, 2011 (edited) I find Saints fans are generally split on him. A lot on twitter were moaning about his selection on Saturday. Mainly because they know little about football. Harding is by far superior to the erratic Dickson. Which is why he's started 39 of our 49 games this season at left back and Dickson has started 10. Saint_clark Posted 26 April, 2011 Posted 26 April, 2011 Mainly because they know little about football. Harding is by far superior to the erratic Dickson. Not sure why you think Dickson is erratic, but Harding has been fantastic yet again this season.
OVER THE HILL Posted 26 April, 2011 Posted 26 April, 2011 I think you mean Monday ,Dickson played on Saturday and was apparently very good.
georgeweahscousin Posted 26 April, 2011 Author Posted 26 April, 2011 I think you mean Monday ,Dickson played on Saturday and was apparently very good. I do definitely mean Monday. Ooops!
Window Cleaner Posted 26 April, 2011 Posted 26 April, 2011 Not sure why you think Dickson is erratic, but Harding has been fantastic yet again this season. Dickson is erratic because he sometimes gives the ball away when he shouldn't and sometimes misses tackles when he shouldn't.
Saint_clark Posted 26 April, 2011 Posted 26 April, 2011 Dickson is erratic because he sometimes gives the ball away when he shouldn't and sometimes misses tackles when he shouldn't. ...all players do that.
shurlock Posted 26 April, 2011 Posted 26 April, 2011 Both are excellent. LB is the strongest area of the squad.
Colinjb Posted 26 April, 2011 Posted 26 April, 2011 One of my favourite players. He has been fantastic ever since we signed him, not perfect but thoroughly impressive.
SNSUN Posted 26 April, 2011 Posted 26 April, 2011 Harding was brilliant on Monday, he's a total pro, has a real determination to win and owns the left touchline when he plays. He's good offensively as well as defensively, and while he had the odd iffy game early in the season, he's rightfully been named in the team of the year. My favourite Saints player aside from Lallana, he has been a great signing.
doddisalegend Posted 26 April, 2011 Posted 26 April, 2011 Dan is the Man the vitriol he recieves from saints fans never ceases to amaze me......it's very rare to find players at this level who can beat Harding down the wing. I thought he was impressive when Manure came to SMS this season.
Colbury Posted 26 April, 2011 Posted 26 April, 2011 Dickson is erratic because he sometimes gives the ball away when he shouldn't and sometimes misses tackles when he shouldn't. What a ridiculous statement.
shurlock Posted 26 April, 2011 Posted 26 April, 2011 Excellent player - can easily cut it in the championship. If he has a weakness, its probably in the air.
Matthew Le God Posted 26 April, 2011 Posted 26 April, 2011 (edited) Can easily cut it in the Championship. Well he has already played 140 Championship games in his career. Edited 26 April, 2011 by Matthew Le God
red&white56 Posted 26 April, 2011 Posted 26 April, 2011 I've always been impressed by him when I see him play for Saints, but as others have said Dickson has also looked a god prospect at LB - can we have both of them in the squad next season and keep them both happy - I'm not so sure
VectisSaint Posted 26 April, 2011 Posted 26 April, 2011 Always reminds me of Nick Holmes. Think he is an underrated player and a crucial member of the squad. Occassionally has an off day, but guess thats why he never really fulfilled his early promise and is in 2nd/3rd tier of English league system. Certainly good enough for the Championship, hopefully will get a new contract soon.
Saintandy666 Posted 26 April, 2011 Posted 26 April, 2011 How good you are at something is a mixture of talent and effort. While I don't believe Harding is quite as talented as some other players, the amount of effort he puts in is phenomenal and he thoroughly deserves his first team place.
Saint_Ash Posted 26 April, 2011 Posted 26 April, 2011 Good player, but I reckon Dickson's crossing is better. All in all though I reckon that's the left back situation sorted in the Championship. Both are very good.

My favourite Saints player aside from Lallana, he has been a great signing. Sums it up perfectly for me. DH is by far one of the best signing's Pardew bought in,I expect the people slating him ae the same fools that think Lambert is **** just because he hasn't scored as many goals this season.
niceandfriendly Posted 26 April, 2011 Posted 26 April, 2011 My Leeds United supporting friend can't stand Harding and thought he was terrible for them. Their loss is definitely our gain. Last years runner up in Player of the Season IIRC?
S-Clarke Posted 26 April, 2011 Posted 26 April, 2011 Outstanding free transfer. He's such a steady eady, nothing specacular but he does such a consistant job. He's probably dipped below 7/10 once or twice in his saints career - if there's anyone you can rely on when he's picked it's Harding. He'd get into plenty of championship teams starting 11.
Chicken With A Banjo Posted 26 April, 2011 Posted 26 April, 2011 Mainly because they know little about football. Harding is by far superior to the erratic Dickson. Window Cleaner Posted 26 April, 2011 Posted 26 April, 2011 and yet Dickson has 5 assists compared to Hardings 2. They're left backs though, their number of assists shouldn't really matter any too much. You can't judge a left back by the number of assists. It must not be forgotten however that Dickson has appeared in midfield on occasions.
IN MY DAY Posted 26 April, 2011 Posted 26 April, 2011 never gives less than 100% and thats good enough for me.
sotonian Posted 26 April, 2011 Posted 26 April, 2011 harding has definitely improved this season, prob due to the signing of dixon giving him pressure for his place
Mr Saints Posted 26 April, 2011 Posted 26 April, 2011 Up there with the best bargains in the club's recent history. Could easily step up a level.
saintjinksie Posted 26 April, 2011 Posted 26 April, 2011 Mainly because they know little about football. Harding is by far superior to the erratic Dickson. Which is why he's started 39 of our 49 games this season at left back and Dickson has started 10. was at Rochdale when both gaols were his fault, he looks quality against the sh*te in league 1 but when he comes up against anyone half decent he is made to look a bit foolish IMO
Thedelldays Posted 26 April, 2011 Posted 26 April, 2011 was at Rochdale when both gaols were his fault, he looks quality against the sh*te in league 1 but when he comes up against anyone half decent he is made to look a bit foolish IMO yeah, thats the reason why he was voted as the best left back by the other players in league 1..... thanks for pointing that out...nice one
S-Clarke Posted 26 April, 2011 Posted 26 April, 2011 he looks quality against the sh*te in league 1 but when he comes up against anyone half decent he is made to look a bit foolish IMO Complete and utter rubbish. Name me a right sided player that has got the better of him this season? If you're big enough to make a claim like that then you should be able to state the games and the players that have made him look foolish.
moon monkey Posted 26 April, 2011 Posted 26 April, 2011 Harding is mr consistent. Since Adkins arrived, his attacking play has been exceptional
RobM Posted 26 April, 2011 Posted 26 April, 2011 Once you start questioning somebodies selection, you only ever see the bad. For me, he is worthy of his starting place week in, week out. Dickson is, IMO, a better attacking threat and stands out for it, as when it works for him it's memorable. But Harding is more dependable, better defensively, plays a simple and safer game but still manages to get himself and the ball forward when attacking. This doesn't stand out or 'wow' people, so just blends in and gets forgotten by those who think every player should be MLT. Watch the extended highlights or, dare I say it... go to a game and watch how many attacks start with him and how few opposition attacks get by him. You might be surprised.
doddisalegend Posted 26 April, 2011 Posted 26 April, 2011 and yet Dickson has 5 assists compared to Hardings 2. Does that include the one Dickson gave to Man U?
doddisalegend Posted 26 April, 2011 Posted 26 April, 2011 was at Rochdale when both gaols were his fault, he looks quality against the sh*te in league 1 but when he comes up against anyone half decent he is made to look a bit foolish IMO yes he looked really awful against Bolton, Blackpool and Man U when he played..............not
bender Posted 26 April, 2011 Posted 26 April, 2011 You have to ask though, how come he never really cut it in the Championship, both at Leeds and at Ipswich?
Matthew Le God Posted 26 April, 2011 Posted 26 April, 2011 You have to ask though, how come he never really cut it in the Championship, both at Leeds and at Ipswich? You don't play 140 games in the Championship without doing something right.
View From The Top Posted 26 April, 2011 Posted 26 April, 2011 He's an excellent FB at this level but he was appalling, if fact worse than that, away at Carlisle.
CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 27 April, 2011 Posted 27 April, 2011 Can't remember a better free signing in 10 years of watching Saints. I wish you hadn't posted this - mainly because I wanted to say it. A smashing player and it will be fascinating to see him and that excellent prospect Joseph 'fish' Mills (presuming we get him back) fight it out for this position. If only the rest of the team would realise on occasion that Harding tends to cross to the far post rather than the near, then we might well have scored even more than we have this season.
saint_bert Posted 27 April, 2011 Posted 27 April, 2011 I've always been impressed by him when I see him play for Saints, but as others have said Dickson has also looked a god prospect at LB - can we have both of them in the squad next season and keep them both happy - I'm not so sure You mean Lallana surely?
Dimond Geezer Posted 27 April, 2011 Posted 27 April, 2011 Excellent player, one of my favourites. He always gives everything, you can tell how committed he is by the way he harangues the ball boys to get the ball back to him quickly. He is generally solid, and I love the way he runs at the oppo, and he is one of our best tacklers, sure he has the odd iffy game, but so do all players, if we dropped every player that made a mistake we’d have gone through the whole squad by the 4th game of the season. I do wish he would shoot more often though. He reminds me of a couple of players, Nick Homes, for his running style, and from where I sit he looks like Stuart Pearce, with whom he also shares his spirit & attitude. I didn’t realise his contract was up, I thought he’d signed for 3 years.
SFC Forever Posted 27 April, 2011 Posted 27 April, 2011 For me Harding is the type of player that all teams need. Even when the chips are down and he is struggling he never fails to give his all. We are lucky to have had two good LB's and two competent RB's this season after some of the tosh we have seen. His only real fault is his habit of ball watching when the ball is in the air but even that is only occasional.
Golden Balls Posted 27 April, 2011 Posted 27 April, 2011 Quality player, he looks like he will be fine in the NPC if we go up. Was my MOTM on Monday
Shroppie Posted 27 April, 2011 Posted 27 April, 2011 I'm a big fan. The one thing that's annoyed me most this season is the whingeing g!t in the seat next to me who slags Dan off at every possible opportunity. Mind you, he slags off the whole team most of the time. Lambert's lazy, Guly's useless, Barnard's too small, Jaidi's too old and can't pass, Kelvin's a liability, Fonte's Portugese, Lallana fails to hoof the ball....... I really don't know why he bothers.

Chez Posted 27 April, 2011 Posted 27 April, 2011 I thought Harding was fractionally better last season - in short he has made a couple of mistakes this season whilst I can't recall any last, but he has still be incredibly tough for any wide player to beat. Has anyone actually beaten him (or Dickson come to that?). Having said that I absolutely love watching Dickson play. Both excellent and won't let us down next season. Both are better than Mills right now. Long term? Who knows.
