summery.. they are not too fond of us and will point out Saints fans in the home end (there's history)... there team is sh@gged.

Yes, but what self-respecting Saints Fan has lowered himself to go begging for tickets over there, FFS ?

I can't see any more hatred for us on their forums than I see on ours about other teams. Their injury crisis is good for us, and by the sounds of things we should look to profit from set pieces especially. I'm a bit nervous about the game, purely because of what is at stake, but I think we should win.

What a bunch of bitter, inarticulate, humourless bores on there, it makes this place look good. Wouldn't expect the request for tickets in their end to be met with open arms, but they seem to be wetting themselves with excitement at being able to tell a saints fan to **** off.

I've watched Brentford a lot this season (brought up in Southampton but living locally) - don't want to tempt fate but I think it will be a reasonably straightforward game for Saints : Bees are a good L1 side (and much improved since the change in manager) and will be competitive - don't judge them by the JPT final which was dire- but have had a pretty dismal scoring record this season and a makeshift defence. The man to watch is Jeffrey Schlupp (really) who is on loan from Leicester - a raw young player but lightning quick and dangerous.

I really don't understand the heat between the clubs (or at least the message boards) - one of the things that struck me when I started watching Brentford regularly (for a while we had season tickets at both clubs) was how much they were like Saints in the Dell days : tatty ground but a spirited vibrant club with attitude. And , of course, both have suffered at the hands of megalomaniacs and are coming out the other side - although Brentford do have pretty good financial backing they probably don't have the supporter base to compete with the likes of Fulham and QPR so it's always going to be a struggle.

I don't think the postings on the message boards reflect the views of most people who go to GP and the stewards are generally pretty sensible so I hope the afternoon passes off well. And if anyone is looking for a place to celebrate The Griffin is easily the best pub in the immediate area (although a lot of Bees supporters will be there) or , if you are looking further afield for something more neutral, the Bell & Crown on the river near Kew Bridge is a great spot which always welcomes football fans.

An afternoon of slightly mixed feelings for me but it would be great to see Saints get promoted after a competitive game.

Wow, it's strange to be the hated big team for a change. It was always nice being little Southampton in the prem :)

-----------------------DAVIS---------------------

BUTTERFIELD-----FONTE-----JAIDI--------HARDING

LALLANA------STEPHENS-----HAMMOND---DICKSON

-------------------GULY-----LAMBERT-------------

Subs: Bart, Richardson, Seaborne, Chaplow, Gobern, Connolly, Forte

Saints 2-1

Guly 47

Fonte 79

I think we'll see Dickson start on Saturday - he'll want to impress against his former club. Connolly dropped to the bench although he hasn't done much wrong, but I would like to see Guly played further forward, as he's had to cover in midfield for the last few weeks. It's vital that us travelling Saints fans make a lot of f*cking noise and get behind the team to spurr them on further down the road to promotion, this is a huge game for the club.

I doubt that we'll use Dickson in midfield when we have perfectly good midfielders available.

Doubt if NA has much time for sentiment about squeezing players in somewhere just because it's their former club.

If Dickson starts it will be at left back.

Dickson didn't have a great game when we played them at home if I remember correctly. Tried too hard.

Wish he'd tried to close Alexander down a bit harder then. Free shot from 25 out, true Kelvin should have done better because it was scuffed.

Dickson was shocking in that game...absolutely shocking. Only time I've been to a game where he's started, I guess my particularly low opinion of him is based on that performance.

That's putting it mildly he was awful....Like you say tried to hard against his old team and choked a bit. On paper this is probably the easier away game of the two so I wouldn't be surprised to see Harding rested to play against Plymouth.

Both Plymouth and Brentford are his former clubs. He was at Plymouth longer than he was at Brentford, he failed to make it at Plymouth but did at Brentford.

its amazing to think...come 5pm saturday, we could all but be promoted..

arrrrrrrrrrrrgh

Its the hope and waiting thats killing me. I just want that giddy feeling, knowing were on our way back up! We win Hudds lose. Sounds so simple.. can it just happen already.

Yep, the game from Monday ;-) quite unbelievable and should be investigated. Players still have their reputations to think about and wouldn't normally give away a goal like that. Not sure why they would give colchester special treatment exactly but the lack of effort in clearing the ball and the insincere frustration that followed was like nothing I've seen.

All hell's gonna break loose if there's another example of that on Saturday

Really ? They looked absolutely fcvking crap, but beyond that I'd like to know how you think an injured keeper palming it to a nearby defender who manages to blast it at a teammate from 5 yards away when trying to whack it off the pitch is anything unusual - it was only Calderon miskicking it to the striker that was even remotely dubious, and it WAS a miskick and he couldn't possibly have controlled it to put it there. He was amazed to have killed the ball blasted straight at him in the first place as it was !

So unless they had money on 1-1 there's no motive, and for about 60 minutes they looked like they had no chance of getting an equaliser anyway.

Even so I personally would much rather see Harding at left-back for all 3 games, same with Butterfield on the right.

I'd rather Dickson plays against Brentford where he'll be motivated (not least by the crowd), rather than Plymouth when he'll be a bit gutted, judging by his twitter following tendencies. Harding on Monday freshens it up, especially after his performance on Monday this week, which was one of his best for Saints.

Butterfield and Richardson are also pretty much interchangeable, and that also worked this weekend, so more of that and I'll be happy.

Wasn't aware the keeper was injured but it really looked like he could have saved it better and it very much looked like the defender closest to the line had plenty of chance to boot it away rather than pass it to someone in front of him in the box with so many opposition players around.

Guess it just comes down to the fact they had no pressure to get a win and that makes me worried about their game with hudds who will be well up for it. Sure there will be a lot of people suspicious if that sort of thing goes on in that game.

When they did a piece on the football league show on sky tv,with Adam Lallana the week leading up to the Bournemouth away game,Forster the Brentford manager was studio

guest on the programme. George Glavin asked Forster did he rate Lallana the best player in league 1,to which he replied no,but he is in the top 5. I hope Adam rams those words down his throat on saturday.

As an asside I used to work with a Brentford fan,who is now retired, and he was a total, stuck up,pompous prat.

Saints are in winning form.

Winning is a habit.

Adkins has imbued the squad with confidence.

Brentford's first team is riddled with injuries.

Brentford have nothing to play for and their remaining players will want to keep injury free prior to resting their tired limbs on some Spanish/Greek beach in mid May.

What could go wrong?

Yeah, Ankergren (the cheating feigning wuss) managed to get booted on the achilles just before and got himself substituted within seconds of that massive balls up of a goal. It was Calderon who should have done anything OTHER than pass it to the striker.

I literally burst out in hysterical laughter in the pub, I don't think anyone else was watching it...

Could get busy round here. We have a Northam Block 41 (Granty's row) legend in town and may need to borrow access to Saints player. Followed up by EoA having tech problems......

COYS we warmed up for it in perfect fashion witha Ravi's & a Seaview trip. They really rocked tonight, need to keep the roll going through the Street party & into promotion celebrations Saturday night
