Brentford build up

Why?

Well obviously it's not in league terms, but part of me reckons Huddersfield will win their last two, and we'll draw at Plymouth. So a draw in this match and a win at Walsall means five points to Huddersfield's six. A win, in my mind, is vital against Brentford, and as they have nowt to play for, I think we could get it.

Would take a draw if Huddersfield draw. Will Brighton want to win? Would they prefer us not to go up? I'm hoping their players desire to win is greater than their fans dislike of us.

Could well be a draw, but have a feeling after the long run it could be two home defeats running.

I expect us to field two largely different teams for Brentford and Plymouth. Switch the full backs, we have four good ones. Jaidi for one game, Martin for the other, chaplow one game, Stephens the other, forte one game, Lallana or guly the other. We're lucky to have so many options.

Like Martin will get another start for us this season.NA seems to put him on the bench only when he absolutely has no other option. Great pity really

because he looked good last season.Next season maybe, it does seem that NA likes to nurture the younger players a bit, with the exception of AOC of course.Couldn't see why Gobern didn't start on Monday either, surely one game at Brighton didn't clap him out.

.

Quite. It woud be great if Brighton beat Huddersfield and we beat Brentford ... up in all but arithmetic certainty... but I'll be happy enough if we just do at least as well as Huddersfield on Saturday, and let the extra game and the vastly superior goal difference put us up a game or two later.

Martin is 4th choice, so that is unlikely.

He might be slightly peeved about not getting the West Ham loan move then, not that he'd have got many starts there either, but as an experience it might have been useful to him.I mean he's not 15 years old is he,must be about the same age as a lot of other League 1 starting CBs.

The pressure isn't as harsh as we might think - as long as we match Huddersfield's result away at Brighton, we'll be on schedule.

Even if the absolute worst comes to the absolute worst and we lose and they win, all we've got to do is beat Plymouth away and we'd still go into our final game of the season at home with it all in our hands.

Having said that, if we can win, then the finish line is in sight.

Thought Weston was v.good for them last year. Our right flank needs to be nice and tight, though teams like Orient and Bournemouth have got a lot of joy down it. Not sure if I would start Butterfield or Richardson. Defensively, I prefer Butterfield, though maybe he lacks the pace.

To be fair we were doing the same before they tonked us at SMS this season, I still think will win though becuase they've got very little to play for unlike us.

Actually, if they fancy their chances for competing for promotion next season, wouldn't they prefer Saints to be no longer in the division (and a strong rival for a promotion spot)?

Maybe it's in their best interests to lose on Saturday. ;)

The Referee on Saturday is due to be Trevor Kettle from Berkshire.

No Saints games this season. Last season he was in charge for the JPT v Torquay which we won/drew 2-2.

In 08/09 he was in charge of the Watford home game (0-3), 5 yellows and 2 pens.

Using Google there have been one or two sets of fans who dislike him and I think there is even a Facebook Page called "Trevor Kettle is not fit to referee" ?!

TBF

If there was a FB page for ever ref in this league that deserves one, the site would crash

Was that the game that we got 2 pen`s in ?

I used to have a tea/coffee mug back in the day which had our 'achievements' on them, the promotion years in the 60's and 70's, the FA Cup win in 76, and league runners up. Also it had most league wins in a row, and it was 6 back in the 60's. I got this mug in about 1987, and since then we have matched this fate in 1992 (I think when we won 6 in a row and then lost to Forest at home 1-2 when Matty missed a pen).

I have been keeping an eye on this ever since and we only ever seem to win 4 in a row at any one time without a draw and this includes the last two seasons. We have now beaten Bristol Rovers, Brighton, and Hartlepool, so 3 in a row. Now if we go on the form of us not being able to even match the 6 wins in a row since 1992 I do not expect us to go until the end of the season without dropping points in a game. I think we will drop points against Brentford or Plymouth, and I am hoping it is Plymouth, but of course if this is the case I would prefer us to drop points on the last day of the season when we are already up.

I do not mean to be the doom and gloom person but I cannot see us winning 6 in a row, but if we do we will have to put another bad record to bed to break the club record and that is win the first game of next season!!!

Haha..

"Exactly. If you went to a party and were forced to leave by unfriendly hosts, you wouldn't invite them back to your place would you? Southampton are extremely rude and obnoxious hosts. I don't even want 1800 of them - I'd ban the lot. I'd personally rather the club added £15 'Scummer Tax' to the price of a season ticket to recover the sixty grand . I hope they do go up because I don't want them here next (or any season) and I'd never go to St. Mary's again. Vermin club. Hate them. Far more even than QPR or Fulham."

Why is it common practice for EVERY team we play to call us scummers?

12 goal striker Gary Alexander ruled out for rest of the season + "The Bees are struggling with injuries with keeper Richard Lee, centre-half Pim Balkestein and forward Charlie MacDonald all ruled out for the season. Defenders Craig Woodman, Leon Legge and Karleigh Osbourne are all doubts for the last two games."

He clearly seems to be 4th choice right now, but hopefully his time will come next season - when (I predict) we will finish above WHU.

Presumably because he put him in on Saturday to do a specific job and wanted to rotate as many players, especially from our injury-wracked midfield, as possible.

I also don't think we will win all 3 of our remaining games.

I think the one that we will will slip up on will be against Plymouth.

We will get a 2-0 win this Saturday; with, of course, both goals coming in the 2nd half.

FWIW Huddersfield play Brentford too .. on the last day of the season.. so lets hope we have it all tied up by then.

I bloody hope so, all I do is look at the league table, I cannot think of anything else. If we win and Brighton beat Huddersfield I will not care about the 6 match winning streak quite as much!! lol.

It's a badge of honour. Seriously, you've got under their skin enough for them to want to hurt you.... and they think that'll do. It shows we mean something.

Just seen the highlights from the Brighton game for first time... The goal they let in was a p!ss take right????!????? They let that go in! I'm no longer going to get my hopes up about them beating Huddersfield as more of that to come I feel!

If you think that's something, check out the goal they let in at Colchester (if that's not the one you're talking about)

Yep, the game from Monday ;-) quite unbelievable and should be investigated. Players still have their reputations to think about and wouldn't normally give away a goal like that. Not sure why they would give colchester special treatment exactly but the lack of effort in clearing the ball and the insincere frustration that followed was like nothing I've seen.

All hell's gonna break loose if there's another example of that on Saturday
