For all the fine dining and free BA flights I'd much rather be watching at SMS :p

Trust me, so would I. It was a bloody nightmare at least with Saints player you can let much of the emotions out on the match thread - at least SHARE it

Bit stuck in a fecking hotel listening to p1ss poor media services types telling you what they could do for your business... (Yawn) while waiting for EoA to send you a text....

Sod that I'm TRYING to get back for Walsall

Oh btw only posted that as I was asked wtf I was doing leaving early from the match thread!

It would be very ironic for us and Brighton if we win on Saturday (which I expect us to) and Brighton beat Huddersfield, just think how upset Brighton fans are going to be scoring against the only team that can possibly prevent us getting promoted automatically, with their venomous hate against us, it will be a funny as f**k.

Not that I think any saints fans would go on their message board to wind them up, if results happen to our advantage but the mongs on NSC will go into meltdown.

And, er, you wonder why some fans call us arrogant? :)

We do not not belong in this league with the set up we have ... FULLSTOP.

We ended up here through years of incompetence at the top and paid the price of trying to keep the wolf from the door by selling/giving away players (and manager) we couldn't afford to keep, and playing teenagers and hiring a cheap alternative coaching set up.

Meanwhile a certain team not to far away still have players on huge contracts and over a 100 million quid of defecit wiped out .... who says cheats never prosper.

But the moral high ground is ours.

Hats off to teams below us who are somehow managing on crowds of 3 -5000 a week yet still gve us a good run for our money. We are everybodies Cup Final - I bet the majority of fans in this league look forward to a home or away match V us than any other team including BHA in this division.

If the knowledge that we have by far and away the best stadium/training facilities/ squad/ fan base etc etc in this league makes us arrogant - then so be it.

Hopefully in a few weeks time we will be dragged down to being just an average set up in a bigger pond.

I sit in line with the 18 yard box in The Kingsland, i thought he was off-side,as soon as the cross went in i looked and the flag went up, was surpised that i was the only one not celebrating the goal.

It was tight and he may well have been on, but the flag wasnt late.

Interesting. I'm with Appy in that I'm so blooody pessimistic in big games like this that I always try to have a quick glance at the linesman, so it looks as though I missed it today (was still the first amongst our lot to realise it was disallowed - their keeper had to be told by one of their defenders as well!!!!!).

I also sit in the Kingsland, about level with 6 yard box, and so was right in line(ish) with Lallana and Guly and just couldn't see who was offside. There was a mass of bodies in there and I couldn't see any Saints shirt closer to the goal than a defender.

Will be very interested to see how wrong I am!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

That's it ... blame for me for us only scoring 2 2nd half goals ... I'd love to have sent more!!!

great weather, great being a saints fan right now, don't want to go back to work tomorrow

You do realise how far away Hartlepool is?

You do realise how low their average home gate is?

I counted 97 of them just before kick-off, but one of those was a bloke sitting in the front row with a shirt and tie so I presume he was a coach driver, except that I didn't see any away coaches??? Some more wandered in later until there were about 130 -140 of them.

Well he held the flag horizontally which just means someone in the middle was offside but he was standing quite a way back from the goal-line, almost level with the penalty spot, if my memory serves me correctly.

Hmmm not too sure - looked in line with where Guly was to me.

Just in. Good day out, I nearly talked myself out of it this morning as I had dodgy guts, but I shat as much as I could out and manned up.

Saints won, which is good, but Huddersfield just won't lie down! I know it's in our hands, but we could use Brighton to do us a massive favour on Saturday. We weren't too convincing today though we didn't have to get out of gear, and I have seen us play much better this season. I think we may need to up our game if we want to clinch second, Plymouth and Walsall are still fighting for their lives and won't simply lie down like Hartlepool. (Who were hampered by their red card, which IMO wasn't.)

Ratings as I saw it.

Davis: Solid as ever, made one good save when there was a defensive mix up, his distribution is still iffy though. 6

Richardson: I thought he was awful. Didn't get forward much, didn't lift his head to see who was in front of him, seemingly always looked for the safe ball back to the centre-backs, and it was his hesistation that nearly cost us a goal. 4

Fonte: Outstanding and my MOTM. Marshalls the defence so well, meets every header and is quite the goalscorer! 9

Seaborne: Though he was quite solid, we certainly didn't miss Jaidi today, though I was a bit worried when he got booked. (As I am whenever someone get booked actually!) 7

Harding: I thought he was very good today - both defensively and offensively. He's always an outlet and has a reasonably good eye for a pass/cross. Today's performance justifies his TOTY spot. 8

Guly: I may go against the grain here, but I didn't think he was very good today. He has good tricks, and I cheered like buggery when he scored his disallowed goal in the first half, but his passing was poor. He flatters to deceive, and seemed a bit lost on the right, though I have seen him perform better. Still gets a 7 though, and probably will influence more than any other player where we finish in the League. (Just a hunch). 7

Stephens: Was ok, a lot of the play flowed through him, was solid if not spectacular. He seemed to be the defensive midfielder, allowing Hammond to roam a bit. 7

Hammond: Tried to get things to flow, I actually thought he was quite useful on the right of midfield towards the end! 7

Lallana: This wasn't his best game but luckily we didn't need him. He's still a class above though, he always looks like the player most likely to make things happen. Seems to have no ill effects from his recent injury, and was rightly rested towards the end.7

Connolly: I thought he was superb. He's always looking to win the ball, can spot a pass, and has an eye for goal. To lose Barnard and bring in a player of Connolly's class speaks volumes about our strength in depth. 8

Lambert: Without sounding toooooo controversial, I'm suprised he got MOTM. Even with a goal and an assist, I didn't think he had one of his better games. I still think he needs to get in more goalscoring positions though, he's a striker, not a midfielder. But that's just my view. 6

Subs:

Forte: Looked ok when he came on: 6

Chaplow: Was full of running and positionally adequate. 7

Martin: Didn't have much to do. 6

Adkins: Lots of changes and we still won fairly comfortably. Was right to rest Lallana and Fonte. I reckon he's Midas, everything he does comes up gold. Or something... 8

Saints fans: Brilliant, in fine voice. 8

Hartlepool fans: I wouldn't want that drive to and from St Mary's, with a near certain loss and nothing to play for in the league and knowing there wouldn't be enough of you to be heard. They deserve a round of applause.

Bring on Brentford, and hope Brighton do us a big, fat favour on Saturday!

absolute total respect for any Hartlepool fan that has travelled down from Hartlepool (I suspect a fair few were southern based). Proper hard core fans make no mistake.

No love lost between Brighton and Huddersfield from their previous meeting.

Poyet won't want to do them any favours.

but its not poyet that has to run around on a bloody hot day though. will brighton players really give one or are they on there holidays now?. i can honestly see them not giving 100% and feilding a much weakend team and i wonder if the football league would be intrested if they did.

why oh why do fans get so wound up when we do anything but lump it forward at every chance we get..

when they were down to ten men and we were very nicely keeping the ball, spreading the play left, then right, then left then right again waiting for a chance....people were going red in the face with anger for not punting the ball to lambert......why is that..?

cant people not see that the chasing pool were doing in that heat was draining them...apart from a flurry in the 2nd half they were sat in their own half

P*ssed me off as well, we were playing FANTASTIC possession football. We must have kept it for about 15 minutes without them touching it once. Nothing wrong with it at all.

If we beat Brentford on Saturday and Huddersfield lose to Brighton, we are promoted, right ?

Technically no, but barring a set of freak results, yes. But counting of chickens prematurely is not to be encouraged. We are Southampton. This season is showing why the play-offs are a bad idea and should be scrapped. The 3 best teams should be promoted, end of.

some of the passing to feet, playing from the back, spreading wide was simply excellent at times....waaaay too good for this league.

also, this game, the way we were set up was crying out for morgan..he would have had a field day today

Great result against a team who came to defend in the main. Wierdly the only time we looked a bit dodgy was after the sending off when for 5-6 mins we went to pot in the defence department luckily super Kelv was up to it and no harm was done.

Lambert easily MOM great penalty, fantastic passsing all game, interesting piece in the match day programme about Rickie and his early season problems. Lallana looked a bit off colour in the 1st half but much better in the second. Have to say Sebourne didn't give me to much confidence when he was on the ball but maybe he was just rusty after a lack of game time.

Well done to the Northam who kept the noise levels up

Shame the chapel was full of people getting all wound up about us passing the ball about. On a hot day, against ten men and a goal up and there are people screaming at the team to hoof it forward Why?????????????:shakey:

spot on.

sat in the kingsland today & couldn't believe some of the beetroot faced gimps around me! one numpty was shouting at Fonte just after he scored

can understand a level of nervousness at times but we totally dominated the ball so why panic?

anyway,it was my sons 1st game & he loved it ! when Ricky scored he jumped into my arms & shouted his little head off! a very proud dad tonight :D

Possession football is what it's all about in our situation. Pity the moaning tossers behind me couldn't understand that

ah, so they were not just around me then (the beetroot idiots).... one bloke nearly burst a lung when davis bowled the ball out to fonte how then passed it around at the back..

he was going loopy and shouting "get the ball fuking forward to lambert".......

dear christ...ironically, im sure we got the free kick (2nd goal) in that phase of play...

some people are actually clueless

unless hudds have swing 12 goals in their favour

Assuming we win and Uddersfield lose then they would actually need a swing of at least 15 goals to level us, over the 3 remaining games that averages a winning margin of 5 goals.

If anyone remembers the Billy Birmingham / 12th Man commentary parody - to Quote Ritchie "Technically possible, but pretty ****ing unlikely".

I'll tell you why I think it is - history !

History has for so so long with us dictated that if we go 1 up we tend to sit back and eventually give it away.

After watching the Saints for years and seeing it so many times people naturally get a bit twitchy and tend to panic.

Now had we done it at 2 or 3 goals up I think people would have been more controlled and appreciative of what was happening but at 1-0 there is always at the back of your mind the fear of the old Southampton way coming back and biting us on the ass !

Thats my opinion anyway.
