paulwantsapint Posted 25 April, 2011 Posted 25 April, 2011 Well done to KD & his defenders on breaking club record for clean sheets yes shilton played less games & faced better players but he had better defenders 3 more games to set a bigger record now then 46 games to break it next season
Dr Who? Posted 25 April, 2011 Posted 25 April, 2011 KD is a fantastic keeper at this level, yes he makes mistakes but ALL keepers do and even more so in League 1. I would say overall he makes up for a few errors, but errors are noticed more. Well done keeps and that back 4!!
yorkie Posted 25 April, 2011 Posted 25 April, 2011 Well done all - and the crowd 24,200 on a Bank Holiday Monday - tremendous! Great defence but when we have let people in we have looked unsure...Rochdale anyone?

K,Billy's supersound Posted 25 April, 2011 Posted 25 April, 2011 fantastic save when 1-0 up when they got in 1on1 and claimed all crosses well.
Deano6 Posted 25 April, 2011 Posted 25 April, 2011 Congratulations Kevin Davies for an outstanding year and deservedly making the league's Player Of The Season.
saintds Posted 25 April, 2011 Posted 25 April, 2011 Congratulations Kevin Davies for an outstanding year and deservedly making the league's Player Of The Season. Have we made a new signing I didn't know about?
BILLY Posted 25 April, 2011 Posted 25 April, 2011 Congratulations Kevin Davies for an outstanding year and deservedly making the league's Player Of The Season. You're joking! KD is a liability. He's been a great servant in the past but I hope this is his last seaon with us. He's let in so many goals at the near post and the defence have to cover for him all the time. No way can you compare KD with Shilts!

Davis has saved more points than he has lost this year. Edited 25 April, 2011 by SaintNeil90

He's let in so many goals at the near post and the defence have to cover for him all the time. No way can you compare KD with Shilts! lol. He has only let in 36 goals in 43 games. He is best player by far in this league. You are very very wrong.

He's let in so many goals at the near post and the defence have to cover for him all the time. No way can you compare KD with Shilts! He's let in so many goals and messed up so many times that we have a +41 goal difference... I don't think anybody in their right mind would compare the two goalkeepers mentioned, but that doesn't take the achievement away, relative to our current position. Yes, Kelvin is beaten too often at the near post, but counter that with the number of intelligent, athletic saves he pulls out and I think you can say it more than evens itself. Perhaps the reason that fans of other teams occasionally call us arrogant is that some of us come out with nonsense like this. Like players in many other positions on the pitch, if he was that high above League One ability, he wouldn't be playing for us. Until we're promoted we're still a third division club, let's not forget that.

And out of a choice of 23 other 'keepers he was put in the League 1 team of the season as Goalkeeper because of him being a "liability" i presume?

rallyboy Posted 25 April, 2011 Posted 25 April, 2011 there's a bloke in the Northam who slags off Davies every game, claims he's the worst keeper in the division and was slating Nige and Cortese only two games ago. He's obviously a better judge of players than the professionals that voted for Davies, his comments about the other two look pretty stupid as well. Sadly there isn't a compulsory IQ test at the ticket office.
Dimond Geezer Posted 25 April, 2011 Posted 25 April, 2011 Well done KD & the defence, thoroughly deserved, as is the place in the L1 team of the season. Better that Shilts - of course not, only an idiot would say so (however we appear to be blessed with many of them), But good enough for us at the moment & in the Championship, should we get there.

VectisSaint Posted 25 April, 2011 Posted 25 April, 2011 Congratulations Kevin Davies for an outstanding year and deservedly making the league's Player Of The Season. Did well against the Arse yesterday, not sure what that has to do with today though. Have to admit that I am not Kelvin's greatest fan, but he does seem to have cut out some of the major errors that were so much part of his game last season. He still gives me the shivers at corners and his kicking is often dreadful but you have to admit that he has made far fewer cock-ups than last season. I think we should credit Fonte and Ruddy Jaidi a lot for that improvement.
DrZuess1979 the 2nd Posted 25 April, 2011 Posted 25 April, 2011 He is a great keeper, and a fantastic servent for this club. Maybe not in Shilts`s league but who was/is. Well deserved record and gets my vote for the best keeper in this league WELL DONE KELV and DEFENCE
beatlesaint Posted 25 April, 2011 Posted 25 April, 2011 Its a nice record to have, so well done Kelvin, but he isnt anywhere near the same league as Shilts was. I wonder if he would have been anywhere near this record if he had had Richardson in front of him at right back for most games this season instead of Butterfield. Richardson was dreadful today.

Frankly, most of the team were responsible for giving us squeaky-bum-time today.
View From The Top Posted 25 April, 2011 Posted 25 April, 2011 Richardson was dreadful today. I've yet to see him play well.
popyto Posted 25 April, 2011 Posted 25 April, 2011 Since NA took over we have only conceded 8 home goals in the league, in the first three home games alone we conceded 4. Just goes to show how tight we are at home, and the second best away record also this season at the back. So bloody great effort.
Painter Posted 25 April, 2011 Posted 25 April, 2011 Frankly, most of the team were responsible for giving us squeaky-bum-time today. particularly Davis, as usual....
beatlesaint Posted 25 April, 2011 Posted 25 April, 2011 particularly Davis, as usual.... Cant agree with that today, he saved us when Richardson screwed up then wanted to just stand there and have a bloody conversation with Kelvin to presumably explain why it wasn't his fault !
Chez Posted 25 April, 2011 Posted 25 April, 2011 particularly Davis, as usual.... why do you say that. Caught everything and saved a one on one, other than that did he put a foot wrong?

I would say overall he makes up for a few errors, but errors are noticed more. Well done keeps and that back 4!! I think you mean the BACK 8 - don't you? Although we have a " recognised start side " some of those clean sheets have also included; Richardson, Martin, Seabourne and Dickson, too.
doddisalegend Posted 26 April, 2011 Posted 26 April, 2011 why do you say that. Caught everything and saved a one on one, other than that did he put a foot wrong? Still think his kicking/throwing out could do with some work, doesn't always make the best use of the options avaliable. However I reckon having a ex keeper for a manager has helped KD out this season in that regard. I'm still more than happy to have him between the white posts for us.
niceandfriendly Posted 26 April, 2011 Posted 26 April, 2011 His kicking is terrible in my opinion, and he doesn't command his box well, but I'm still very glad we've got him in our squad. Great keeper for this league, and then we've got Bart as back up. Schweeeet!

Dimond Geezer Posted 26 April, 2011 Posted 26 April, 2011 particularly Davis, as usual.... Yet another idiot
Danbert Posted 26 April, 2011 Posted 26 April, 2011 I don't think we should underestimate the fact that KD now has a solid & settled defence in front of him, which is bound to give him more confidence. Hardly a settled defence - not that it seems to matter
doddisalegend Posted 26 April, 2011 Posted 26 April, 2011 Hardly a settled defence - not that it seems to matter No but at least they're defenders, I wouldn't imagine having Lloyd James in front of you in defence would inspire confidence.
Danbert Posted 26 April, 2011 Posted 26 April, 2011 No but at least they're defenders, I wouldn't imagine having Lloyd James in front of you in defence would inspire confidence. I think perhaps it actually helps matters that they chop and change a bit. When a player comes in he's used to playing with the others and knows he's not just there as a stop gap but as a trusted member of the unit. Take your point about playing people out of position, there's been too much of that in recent years. Always thought LJ gave his all, but he wasn't up to it. For next season I'd like to see us bring in a new centre back as but can't see us needing any other defensive reinforcements.
paulwantsapint Posted 30 April, 2011 Author Posted 30 April, 2011 the record for most clean sheets stood for over 25+ years then is broken less than a week later
SNSUN Posted 30 April, 2011 Posted 30 April, 2011 the record for most clean sheets stood for over 25+ years then is broken less than a week later Thanks to a penalty save from Kelvin (the same thing also got us a clean sheet at home against Brighton). Kelvin is amazing!
