Ian the Red Posted 25 April, 2011 Posted 25 April, 2011 Any ideas on which pub(s) are any good in the area?? Planning on the 10:00 train getting into Brentford @ 11:52.
suewhistle Posted 25 April, 2011 Posted 25 April, 2011 Couldn't you do a pub crawl of all four corners?
Ian the Red Posted 25 April, 2011 Author Posted 25 April, 2011 What and waste drinking time walking between pubs!!!

Having a half-day are you, lightweight? Get yourself up to the smoke and get to a 'spoons at 9.00 to take full advantage of the day. That said, you won't give a monkey's toss what pubs are around Brentford by 2 o'clock as they'll all look the same.
niceandfriendly Posted 25 April, 2011 Posted 25 April, 2011 I'd advise anyone looking for a nice day out to head to Kingston Upon Thames and drink down by the river. Lovely down there especially if it's nice weather. I recommend 'the Gazebo'... decent prices and they have their own brewery. Their wheat beer is worth a try, and they'll also give you plastic glasses if you want to take your drinks and sit on the river bank. Lovely I tell ya. The 65 bus from Brook Street, Kingston takes you right past Griffin Park and takes about 25minutes.

RedAndWhite91 Posted 25 April, 2011 Posted 25 April, 2011 There are a ridiculous amount of pubs near the ground.
so22saint Posted 25 April, 2011 Posted 25 April, 2011 The Flying Swan obviously... Seriously, It's the 65 from Richmond as well, and 25 minutes from there (or a 2 hr wander along the river) so go with the crumpet option. In which case The White Swan is good, and there's an All Bar One near the riverside. On the river is a Pitcher and Piano and a Propaganda or whatever it's called.
Fan The Flames Posted 25 April, 2011 Posted 25 April, 2011 I recommend 'the Gazebo'... Used to go there when I was visiting my mate at Kingston Poly, remember one summers evening when we all ended up in the river. With regards to Brentford, I've always ended up in the New Inn which is alright.

LVSaint Posted 25 April, 2011 Posted 25 April, 2011 Richmond Green and surrounding pubs is nice on a sunny day. Griffin Park is just on the other side of Kew Gardens. Lucky buggers.
hamster Posted 25 April, 2011 Posted 25 April, 2011 I personally spoke with the manager of The Griffin one of the famous four, tonight. He was so helpful that I would really like to repay him by sending a few of you lot his way. Nice garden, proper ale and burgers on matchdays. Unfortunately the rub a dubs in the frog and toads round their gaff ain't that wheel hair friendly so we shall be imbibing in the harvester 2 miles away, The Royal W7 2AX We'll be there around midday if anyone fancies a free pint on me and iirc they have a free car park so the 2 mile walk might tempt the fitter posters. NB Therell be about 12-14 of us.
Albert Tatlock Posted 25 April, 2011 Posted 25 April, 2011 Haha you might tempt Deppo to go to his first game!
niceandfriendly Posted 26 April, 2011 Posted 26 April, 2011 errrr, 25 mins....are you sure, allow at least 1hr travel by bus from kingston to brentford. better off having a beer in Richmond on the river with the crumpet there.....lovely you're sort of right. i was thinking if you were to drive, it's 25 minutes. it's only about 8 miles or so, but in the bus with those stops give 40 just in case. Richmond is another very good suggestion.
niceandfriendly Posted 26 April, 2011 Posted 26 April, 2011 (edited) They don't have their own brewery it's a Sam Smith's. Oh yeah, indeed it is, my bad. No idea where I was thinking of... Oh well can't think of any Sam Smiths south of London so what better reason do you need to get to Kingston? Edited 26 April, 2011 by niceandfriendly
