St Chalet Posted 23 April, 2011 Posted 23 April, 2011 Have just finished watching his interview on Saints Player. I have to say that I have rated him every time I have seen him pull on a Saints shirt, unfortunately that hasn't been as many times as it should have been in the past two years due to injury. From the games last season and glimpes of this it is clear he has a good partnership with Rickie and he has influenced games coming off the bench. From his interview today he came across as a focussed professional. Would love to see him him given another year as I think he CSDAJFU.
St Chalet Posted 23 April, 2011 Author Posted 23 April, 2011 He actually reminds me of the 'Latvian' Michael Owen.
SOTONS EAST SIDE Posted 23 April, 2011 Posted 23 April, 2011 Form is fleeting, CLASS is FOREVER!! = DC
Dalek2003 Posted 23 April, 2011 Posted 23 April, 2011 I said several weeks ago that Connolly would have a big part to play towards the end of the season. i am glad to be prove right.
gaz Posted 23 April, 2011 Posted 23 April, 2011 He's a great impact player and is a good replacement for Barney or Rickie, shame he can't stay fit enough for a long spell in the side as he's as good as either of those on his day. I really hope he stays with the club in a coach role at the end of the career, as said, he's a model professional.
CitySaint Posted 23 April, 2011 Posted 23 April, 2011 I thought from the interview, he was trying to say that he has been fit for a while now and just has not been selected. This is understandable with Barney's form, but if true I wouldv'e thought we would have seen more of him in the last 7 to 8 games he mentioned, even if it is just 10-15 minutes here and there to give RL/LB a break.
shurlock Posted 23 April, 2011 Posted 23 April, 2011 Class player. Dont buy this 'forever injured' line - has been available for us for a while. Partly LB/RL have been in form; partly its a case of NA not rating him as highly as he should.
MINIBARCELONASAINT Posted 23 April, 2011 Posted 23 April, 2011 Na clearly rates him. He described him as a class act after the game
Dellman Posted 23 April, 2011 Posted 23 April, 2011 He does for us what Kevin Phillips didn't do for us but did for everyone else.
sfc4prem Posted 23 April, 2011 Posted 23 April, 2011 He's such an intelligent player and plays completely for the team. Great pro and still has his Premiership & International class flowing through his boots. Give him another year contract please.
saintscottofthenortham Posted 23 April, 2011 Posted 23 April, 2011 I have said since he signed, he is our best player. As said above, form is temporary, class is permanent. He may not be as quick and nimble as he once was, but you can't train the football brain he posseses. Great, great player who I just wish had been a bit less injury prone than he has been over the last few years.
St Chalet Posted 23 April, 2011 Author Posted 23 April, 2011 He says 'erm' a lot. As does Rooney, must be a good trait.
saintscottofthenortham Posted 23 April, 2011 Posted 23 April, 2011 He does for us what Kevin Phillips didn't do for us but did for everyone else. This.
shurlock Posted 23 April, 2011 Posted 23 April, 2011 Na clearly rates him. He described him as a class act after the game Dunno. Berfore last week and today seemed as if forte was higher up the pecking order (notwithstanding he can also play wide).
Dalek2003 Posted 23 April, 2011 Posted 23 April, 2011 As I have said many times this year, Connolly could be one of our best players if he can spend less time in the treatment room !
Saint Garrett Posted 23 April, 2011 Posted 23 April, 2011 Connolly = Pahars Lambert = Beattie Barnard = Ormerod Obviously the latter are better....but I've always said if its possible to keep him fit, he is a class act, great finisher.
saintscottofthenortham Posted 23 April, 2011 Posted 23 April, 2011 Dunno. Berfore last week and today seemed as if forte was higher up the pecking order (notwithstanding he can also play wide). You seem to be missing the point that Connelly hasn't started a game for over a year. Were you one of the numpties texting into Solent at half time?
St Chalet Posted 23 April, 2011 Author Posted 23 April, 2011 As I have said many times this year, Connolly could be one of our best players if he can spend less time in the treatment room ! Perhaps Hoddle could heal him?
dubai_phil Posted 23 April, 2011 Posted 23 April, 2011 If Connolly can stay fit he will be a class act, great finisher
shurlock Posted 23 April, 2011 Posted 23 April, 2011 You seem to be missing the point that Connelly hasn't started a game for over a year. Were you one of the numpties texting into Solent at half time? Nah was at the game - Connolly's own interview says as much, that's he been available for a while and been banging them away in training. Not saying he should be starting games just yet; but he has been under-used.
mitch01 Posted 23 April, 2011 Posted 23 April, 2011 Model professional, great interview. Hope to see more of him in the future.
Lighthouse Posted 23 April, 2011 Posted 23 April, 2011 Quick reality check for the 'give him another year' brigade; Connolly will be 34 when next season kicks off and hasn't looked like being fit for 4 years. If he gets fit, he could be a decent asset. If he grow a foot taller, he could be a decent aerial threat. If he grows a pair of tits, he could be a decent page 3 girl. How about a player who actually IS fit?
SaintBobby Posted 23 April, 2011 Posted 23 April, 2011 I'm a huge fan of Connolly....but his time is now. Sadly, I'm not sure he's part of an NPC campaign as/when/if we're promoted.
Golden Balls Posted 24 April, 2011 Posted 24 April, 2011 He also says 'ya know' a lot. I think he's one of the best players at the club. Great footballing brain. He says he's one of the fittest at the club. Maybe he should start? He could play a massive role for these next 4 games!!
TopGun Posted 24 April, 2011 Posted 24 April, 2011 One goal does not make a season. It would be ridiculous to keep him on in the CCC at the expense of another younger forward.
thorpie the sinner Posted 24 April, 2011 Posted 24 April, 2011 just heard the interview and it did sound like he had been fit for ages!!! Hope he gets on for the last 4 games as he knows where the goal is, simple!
SO16_Saint Posted 24 April, 2011 Posted 24 April, 2011 One goal does not make a season. It would be ridiculous to keep him on in the CCC at the expense of another younger forward. It may have made THIS season for us though...
sammysaint Posted 24 April, 2011 Posted 24 April, 2011 I think he's a class player but I agree with TopGUn in a way, we can't deny younger players like forte and the under 21 lads a chance as 4th choice striker for Connelly, unless he does the same at Brighton again and prove his worth, also we need a new striker unless forte proves he can get us 10 goals in the NPC, as we know DC 3/4 years ago was top goal scorer in that league, so maybe he might get his chance but its down to him to prove it in the last few games, I think himself and NA may have set this target for him before yday. 2 goals and to play in every game at least 15-20 mins with a start thrown in.
Toomer Posted 24 April, 2011 Posted 24 April, 2011 He might just have a little more impact in the last four games.
Thedelldays Posted 24 April, 2011 Posted 24 April, 2011 having a player as gifted as connolly around is priceless for the younger players...if he is good enough and would be fit to play when required next season then why the hell not keep him on..?
saints_is_the_south Posted 24 April, 2011 Posted 24 April, 2011 Connolly is a class act, would probably still be playing in the prem if it wasn't for all his injuries.
beatlesaint Posted 24 April, 2011 Posted 24 April, 2011 Connolly is a class act, would probably still be playing in the prem if it wasn't for all his injuries. Absolutely. Wether we go up or not I would offer him another years contract, even if its only a pay as you play deal. His experience could be vital, such a clever player.
boxosponge Posted 24 April, 2011 Posted 24 April, 2011 Never heard him speak before. I expected an Irish accent, but kept thinking it was Pardue but with more elequence and sense. Great to have him available as one of Nigel's "impact players"
NN2 Saint Posted 24 April, 2011 Posted 24 April, 2011 Having been at the game I can't believe people are even mentioning Forte and Connolly in the same breath. He is class was fantastic last week when coming on and exactly the same yesterday exactly what is needed up front when Ricky is winning everything and worn down the oppos CBs
paulwantsapint Posted 24 April, 2011 Posted 24 April, 2011 Could DC do a job for us as a mentor to younger strikers with the added bonus of the odd game
shurlock Posted 25 April, 2011 Posted 25 April, 2011 Thought he did excellent today and didn't seem to tire that much- in some ways Connolly and Lambert work better than Lambert and Barnard. Barnard is more powerful than Connolly but Connolly makes the more intelligent runs and with Lambert who can pick out a pass, that plays to DC's strengths.
Saint Garrett Posted 25 April, 2011 Posted 25 April, 2011 Was awesome today. Very effective in what he does, and didnt run out of energy. Rarely gave the ball away and linked up extremely well with Lambert and Lallana.
sotonist Posted 25 April, 2011 Posted 25 April, 2011 Thought he did excellent today and didn't seem to tire that much- in some ways Connolly and Lambert work better than Lambert and Barnard. Barnard is more powerful than Connolly but Connolly makes the more intelligent runs and with Lambert who can pick out a pass, that plays to DC's strengths. I'm not sure Barnard is making less intelligent runs, but he's certainly making different ones. Barnard always seems to run to the same places Guly does. When they are both on the pitch they seem to get in each others way. Connolly didn't.
eastleighhalo Posted 25 April, 2011 Posted 25 April, 2011 DC is the best forward thinking class act in this division... no question about it ! ... and im so so ****ing pleased he is a Saint ....this guy has come back to fitness to be available at exactly the right time for us imho... he was always gonna be a great signing for us .....now we we will reap the rewards. His experience movement and class is way above anyithng any other team has got ///he will provide all we need to put us over the finishing line im sure .
Saint_clark Posted 25 April, 2011 Posted 25 April, 2011 I still think people are overrating him. Very good player for us, yes...but way above anything else in this division? Please...
Saint137 Posted 25 April, 2011 Posted 25 April, 2011 Brilliant today, and I reckon he'll make a good coach. Reads the game so well. Wonder if we can find a space for him at the Academy, he's a model professional.
thorpie the sinner Posted 2 May, 2011 Posted 2 May, 2011 Please extend his contract, END OF!!!! absolute top quality
kpturner Posted 2 May, 2011 Posted 2 May, 2011 Agreed - fantastic performance today. He doesn't like that "back from the dead chant" though, and I don't blame him. Almost as bad as the Cortese/Pompey chant.
Thedelldays Posted 2 May, 2011 Posted 2 May, 2011 he has to stay...he was superb today that screamer that hit the bar was superb...then another time he turned 2 defenders inside-out and just pull a cracking shot wide.... excellent player and dont think he likes his "back from the dead" song lol
saint_jas Posted 2 May, 2011 Posted 2 May, 2011 Connolly was class today, so wish that screamer he hit near the end went in.
alpine_saint Posted 2 May, 2011 Posted 2 May, 2011 Reckon what to do with Connolly will give NA his biggest headache over the next month....
david in sweden Posted 2 May, 2011 Posted 2 May, 2011 Connolly = Pahars Lambert = Beattie Barnard = Ormerod Obviously the latter are better....but I've always said if its possible to keep him fit, he is a class act, great finisher. much as I liked Brett's honest endeavour, he was a good provider for others but hardly a goalscorer in the Barnard class. (11 league goals in 98 games (2001-2006). OK... it was Premiership I know, but ....! )
david in sweden Posted 2 May, 2011 Posted 2 May, 2011 (edited) Reckon what to do with Connolly will give NA his biggest headache over the next month.... Alps.. REALLY, are you insinuating that we should get rid of him ??? I do hope not ! ..as Barnard still has unresolved issues with the judiciary, we should certainly keep DC much longer (and hope he stays fit ). Edited 2 May, 2011 by david in sweden
