saints-cris Posted 23 April, 2011 Share Posted 23 April, 2011 Frustrate the opposition, play keep ball, claim for everthing had throw a hissy fit when they don't get there own way... i can see Brighton as top 10 next season. I dont think most sides will be as kind as us and miss as many as we did. I think they will do well nex season as they do play nice stuff, but you gotta be able to deal with the direct approach as well. The thing that Derby were oh so effective at. pap Posted 23 April, 2011 Share Posted 23 April, 2011 Gus Poyet is Uruguayan. Not making sweeping national generalisations are you? Are all French people the same? If so, that means that Wenger is a potential sheep burner.
saint1977 Posted 23 April, 2011 Share Posted 23 April, 2011 Compare Poyet's behaviour with Lee Clark at Huddersfield - an impressive, articulate and gracious young manager. Look at how his staff - McDermott - behave as well. It's a shame we are battling Hudds for second and if we do make second I hope Hudds win the play offs. There's been some banter between us and Hudds but I've got a million times more respect now for Hudds than Brighton. Shame, as I've always wished Brighton well after what Archer and Bellotti did to them but I think the excitement of winning League One has fried their brains. It's about getting promotion - we've underachieved a bit this year yet ironically we are showing our best character and determination with lots of key players injured which gives me hope for these last 4 games. Norwich won't remember winning League 1 that much in 5 years time and go up again this year and re-establish themselves as a top flight club (if Paul Lambert stays there that is more than possible). rooney Posted 23 April, 2011 Share Posted 23 April, 2011 Chimpface skeletal Poyet is so ungracious. He does not seem to realise that whatever way we played today was Nigel's gameplan. He obviously did not have one to stop us. All his plans backfired today and we came out on top. A wonderful evening to enjoy tonight. COYR. Leslie Charteris Posted 23 April, 2011 Share Posted 23 April, 2011 A lot of people have poked fun at NA's public utterances but there's obviously a lot more going on behind the scenes. He certainly won the mind games this week and really got the team wanting the win and playing for each other. Tactically, he played a blinder today and showed Poyet up for the one-dimensional whinger that he is. Did you see Cardiff QPR today Gus? Who should fear them the most, Saints or BHA? It doesn't mean nothing, it's an indication that they can beat teams from the league above, that coupled with the fact that they have just boshed this division leads me to think that they might be ok next season. and it's just as valid as your therory of 'its a big step up for div 1 to Championship', beacuse Leeds, Norwich and Millwall didn't find the step up that difficult and of the previous 15 promoted teams ten of them are still in the Champ or higher. rallyboy Posted 23 April, 2011 Share Posted 23 April, 2011 when we beat Spurs in the cup a few years back I could only get a ticket in their section. Pat from Poole Posted 23 April, 2011 Share Posted 23 April, 2011 All this talk of rolling over to Huddersfield is crap. Last game at Withdean and Poyet will want to avenge this defeat. There was also quite a lot of unpleasantness between Brighton and Huddersfield when they met at the Galpharm this season. Clark was hilarious, running on the pitch at the end to celebrate Huddersfield's win, waving imaginary cards in the air mocking Poyet and his mates' actions in trying to get players booked/sent off through the game. Bit of bad blood there, methinks.

Sambib Posted 23 April, 2011 Share Posted 23 April, 2011 He made himself look a bit of a silly there, but behind the bitterness there is some truth. I say this because this season, only you and Dagenham have been able to properly counteract the way we play. Daggers would pressure us at the back, just like you did, and like to launch the ball towards their front men. I noticed today that you would also launch the ball at your frontmen, but Lambert would nod back across to a support player, as with what happened with your first goal. However, you would also mix it up with some great football, like when do Prado was played through and had his shot cleared off the line, and there were a few of these moves throughout the game. So in some aspects he is right, in the positive (well, of course negative for us) ways that you utilise your strengths and counteracted us brilliantly. He does make himself seem a bit silly at times in that interview though... Sorry, as this is my third post today I cannot reply to any comments
Toomer Posted 23 April, 2011 Share Posted 23 April, 2011 Deary me Gus, deary me. You sound as small time as some of your fans. As you say winning the Third Division title is no more than a stepping stone into the Leagues above and I doubt whether many could name you the last three winners, let alone who won it ten years ago. I presume it was Norwich, S****horpe (due to the Adkins connection) and then ??? It's a sh1tty league and we are deservedly down here for being sh1tty in recent years, but in all honesty no one gives a fook and the only aim is to get out of this division by any means possible. You'd think he'd won the Premier League. Small time Gus, small time (next time take a breather and give a more considered interview after being stuffed at home). Could not have put it any better Steve, what will also go down in the history books is that we ended their unbeaten home record.

Sorry, as this is my third post today I cannot reply to any comments I won't be too harsh on you after some of your gracious comments, but being totally honest (and I have been quick to comment on Adkins faux pas over the season and also supportive of Brighton's long suffering supporters who have finally been given something to cheer about) I think Poyet has come across as a complete and utter fookwit in that interview. The notion that the only thing that separates us from "Dagnam" is Lambert, and all we do is play route one makes him just look completely small time. I can only assume his brother was in charge of the tannoy, his mum was making the banners and his sister was throwing the bottles. Small time, real small time and the actions of Poyet and deeds of others have made you look somewhat classless, which is sad considering the troubles you have come through and the positive position you, as a Club, find yourselves in. I thought a successful Brighton could have been a really good story given the shyte thrown at you over the years, but instead the recent antics have left me thinking you're a tad small time. This season possession has beaten position and that's what is going to be remembered. The9 Posted 23 April, 2011 Share Posted 23 April, 2011 Didn't they say on sky that first half we had 70% of the play? Bit hard to do that by playing longball football!! We absolutely slaughtered them in terms of having possession when the ball was in play - looking at the full time stats I can only assume that the possession figures include giving possession to the team taking the restarts, because Brighton taking 5 minutes to take all their goal kicks until the 89th minute can be the only reason why we didn't have at least 60% of possession. Funnily enough Dag and Red also did against them last week.

JonnyLove Posted 23 April, 2011 Share Posted 23 April, 2011 The issue now is that he might decide to play a very week and limp team against huddersfield. Ok we have a game in hand but i'd rather tie it up before the end of the season. I do also wonder if he wanted the saints job earlier in the season and was told where to go and this may be why he is a little bit bitter. I remember Harry R being bitter towards us when we were looking for a new manager and then he ended up at Poopey about a week after we hired someone.
