Brighton V Saints 1-2 Post match Chat!

SOTONS EAST SIDE

Recommended Posts

Huddersfield the only team left that can do the double over Brighton this season, as well as still being able to get 100 points, and it being the last home game...

They'll probably lose 2-1.

Their results don't matter though, we just need to concentrate on our own results and there's nothing anyone else can do.

That picture should serve as all the inspiration and motivation Adkins, the players and we need for the rest of time eternal.

What sad, sad deluded inbreds those Brighton fans are. All the good grace of a pile of horse manure.

I guess I am the only one who finds the poster pretty funny... Adkins does look a bit silly after making those remarks as they've raced away to win it with several matches to spare... fair play to their fans for coming up with a great banner. Banter is a lot of the fun of football for me, especially when we get results like that yesterday and force the Humble Pie fans to eat a bit themselves :D

Agreed, I love the banter in football, and some of it does hurt. Yes we thought we would win the league, and Brighton were the better team over the season. Fergie and Wenger are at it all the time, it is healthy for the game. I believe we will have the last laugh when they drop away and we are on the way to the premier league. I do think we would have done pretty much the same if not with banners then with songs, but winning the league you would think would be enough. At the end of the day it is all football and a lot of you guys need to chill out and enjoy the ride a little. As I have said many times before on here, if we cannot enjoy this season when will we enjoy watching Saints??

My pessimism was completely misplaced. My lack of faith totally uncalled for. My diminishing confidence in the players and manager absolutely out of order. Apologies for my misplaced misery.

Congratulations to everyone involved. My spirits are rekindled and am now looking forward with expectation and hope while digesting some humble pie.

I have not obviously read all this thread but I will add my thoughts.

Firstly, congratulations on getting a deserved 3 points. When we got hold of the ball we played the much better football which hardly a surprise to anyone but you also clearly wanted it much more than we did, which again, is hardly a massive surprise either. You had blatantly learnt from the game at St Mary's where your players were knackered after 50mins but this time were a lot more conservative which was demonstrated by the fact both your goals were late on.

It is a shame that I could count only 2 of our starting line-up who seemed to be bothered but that should not take anything away from your team...You deserved your win and we will definitely see you next season...And just think, you will not have to sit half-a mile behind the goal next time!

Congratulations...Hats off to you...

Ooh, fancy, I don't even agree that you played the better football - in fact you were gash all over the park and unable to make any progress by passing - the only time you got anywhere was about 4 dribbles by Bennett and then Noone when he came on. Everything else was just a hoof up the line from Calderon and a race to chase the bouncing ball. Hilariously our first use of 4-3-3 and 3 year reserve Gobern making his only his third League start EVER was enough to completely negate your threat.

I also don't agree that you "didn't want it" - unless cheating by throwing yourselves to the floor when players are nowhere near, waving cards to try and get people booked, pulling the ballboys out of the game with 10 minutes left when you're leading, the ballboys generally not giving the ball to Saints players throughout the match, laying on the floor for ages when barely injured, sending players to the far side of the pitch before substitutions, taking minutes at a time to get the ball back onto the pitch and generally timewasting from the first minute is what you do when you're not even interested...

We also didn't "get knackered after 50 minutes last time" either, and after bettering you for 45 and then matching you for the second 45 at home it was nice to see us stuff you for 90 this time - although I'm guessing the ball was only in play for about 15 minutes in total thanks to your incredible time-wasting. If it hadn't been for Jaidi's pass to Bennett you wouldn't have had a shot of note in the first half and there was barely an effort to trouble Davis in the second either - whilst we had 5 good chances, a couple of scrambles, a blatant penalty for Lambert getting pulled down when clean through and THEN scored our goals.

At least we're agreed that we deserved it.

Really and truly, whose cup final was it yesterday?

Despite their efforts to downplay it after losing, it appeared to be the most important match in Brighton's history from their club's attitude to it and the sniping and digging in the programme and media about comments from Adkins that none of us even remember.

Once the match had started, their outright cheating was hugely aggravating, and it was this, along with the importance of the 3 points that made this match so important to Saints. It certainly wasn't us that turned it into a gloatfest.

On the bright side, by the time we'd got back on the train we'd worked out the understated and appropriate response to them singing "Championes" was "Can we play you every week?". And by the time we'd changed trains at Fratton we'd been reminded what the real issue was. ;)

Anyone got Le Tissier's celebrations on Sky Soccer Saturday? Apparently he went apesh*t!?

Someone please get it!! ;)

Quality win today. I was effing and jeffing when we went 1-0 followed by all those missed chances. I kept on saying to my old man that the footballing gods were against us! Oh how I love to eat my own words. LOVE you Saints. I was running around the house celebrating like a madman when Fonte nodded in the second.

Great stuff, and bring on Hartlepool. Let's make sure we remain unbeaten for the rest of the run in, please! We can still get 92 points, LET'S DO IT!!

Totally agree. I guess even the less moronic Brighton fans can only offer a backhand compliment !

It is clear you goto games but as for watching them seems debatable so it is really pointless arguing!

But, it was obvious we were not as up for it as you, as I could only count 2 players who seemed to be putting in a shift and we were no where near at the level we have been playing all season. As for throwing ourselves around and waving imaginary cards none of that really happened did it? I have seen one player wave one card last year sometime and that is about it...And timewasting?...You really weren't watching were you?...I suppose when you have a South American manager it is an easy to make general sweeping accusations.

I also would not have begrudged any Albion player going down either especially as Chaplow was on a one-man fouling missions...The blokes a nutter. I am sure if he had ran out of Albion players to leave a foot in on then he would have probably started on his team-mates.

Anyway, you can revel in your deserved 3 points but I think you would rather be like that horrible, bitter and twisted man in Lee Clark at Huddersfield...Why can't you just enjoy your victory and promotion?

Right, I am out of here, it is obvious that from the rubbish spouted on here most of you are a bit deluded and on another planet and incredibly touchy! I am giving this place a wide berth for a while and if I want to engage with Saints fans I will do so on North Stand Chat, I mean, whilst there are a few Albion on here, for some reason there are loads of Southampton fans who have signed up to NSC!!

Laters...Much laters...

Oh dear.

Roll on next year's faux-rivalry.... in the meantime Brighton can go back to occupying the same small corner of my consciousness where the likes of Rotherham, S****horpe, MK Dons, Yeovil etc reside.
