pressingon Posted 19 April, 2011 Posted 19 April, 2011 Watching League 1 highlights every week I notice quite a few great goals coming from outside the box, Elliott Bennett has scored some crackers lately for the Gulls. Got me wondering when was the last goal we scored from outside the penalty area from open play? I seem to remember a mis hit cross from Chamberlain that found the back of the net, other than that I am struggling to remember any this season.
Lallana's Left Peg Posted 19 April, 2011 Posted 19 April, 2011 Guly against Blackpool and Chaplow against Oldham are two that spring to mind.
Nexstar Posted 19 April, 2011 Posted 19 April, 2011 Rickie at home to Huddersfield was a beauty. Lallana hit some nice curlers against Bompey and Shrewsbury
Lighthouse Posted 19 April, 2011 Posted 19 April, 2011 This thread reminded me of Vignal scoring from nigh-on the halfway line against Leicester a few years ago. In League 1 Lambert away to MK Dons last season was hit from a good 40 yards out.
Tartarus112 Posted 19 April, 2011 Posted 19 April, 2011 I think a part of it is other teams awareness of our talent. I mean if you were the opposition manager and you watched the tapes of our players, would you let them have the time and space to shoot from outside the box? Hence why teams always play a holding midfielder against us.
Saint_clark Posted 19 April, 2011 Posted 19 April, 2011 Oxo also scored a lovely quick turn and hit a while ago, can't remember who against though.

eelpie Posted 19 April, 2011 Posted 19 April, 2011 Watched Brentford score from long passes into the box, and we are susceptible to getting caught out this way. So I expect Brentford will be trying this a lot against us.

Well, that and 4-4-2 being England's default formation for the last 50 years or so and the idea of not fielding at least one midfielder who picks up opposing midfielders when they are in attacking positions being utterly preposterous.
