Fonte: Chamberlain should stay, for now.

Recommended Posts

With a £7m shortfall in operating costs this last season, the vast majority of any transfer fee money will not go directly to Adkins coffers. He might see £3m to bolster the squad if he's lucky (possibly not enough IMO to sort us out for a push at the Championship playoffs). If Alex wants to go to Arse, nothing will stop him and for what it's worth I think that's why we've got Forte here to 'replace' Alex. We will see another signing but I don't think (and hope) N'Guessien will be invited to stay.

Wouldn't put money on it fella.

What is your hunch based on? Do you think Liebherr accidentally made Saints trade at a loss last year in League One? They haven't brought the club to hang around in the lower Leagues for years without investment. The training ground they are building this summer wouldn't look out of place at a top 6 Premier League club, why bother funding that if they have no intention of funding the team?

OK - If he does go is this magical 10 Million pound offer still the ammount people would be looking for ?

Was this just a media figure or is this the price Saints have on him.

I guess until we return to the lofty heights its going to be hard to keep hold of our young talent.

What I meant was guaranteed payments. None of this "we'll give you an extra £2m if he plays 20 times for England before he's 21" or "We'll give you £1m if he scores 20 goals in his first 2 seasons etc..." It should be £10m, £2.5m now, £2.5m next season and £5m the season after, guaranteed. Not a deal that is incentivised and we are left without a player, reliant on him to fulfil his potential for us to get a fair deal. If you want our player, stump the money up.

Yes absolutely, and after having our fingers burned badly twice (albeit with little choice in the matter) I would hope we would only accept a flat fee deal.

But what I was saying was, even if it is a flat fee (and not incentivised), the people who think that it would mean 10m of instant liquidity are mistaken. Selling AOC (or any other player) would not mean that his transfer fee would be then available to spend on new players, even if all of the money goes into the 'transfer kitty'. It takes a very long time for these things to work themselves through.

Anyone who thinks the owners will be investing huge new money into the club, IMO, are not living in the real world. So what kind of transfer pot do YOU think Adkins will have in the summer then (assuming we go up)? >£3m....>£10m? Just asking.

Of course I have no idea how much he will be given. But everything about the Liebherr/Cortese plan "so far" indicates it will be a significant amount for the level the club is at, like has been the case in the past two seasons.

Plus being in the Championship significantly increases revenue streams, for example you get....

- around £4m more in TV money compared to League One

- higher numbers of home fans at St Mary's

- much higher numbers of away fans at St Mary's

- more advertising revenue

- Saints having a sponsor next season

- more corporate revenue

- higher solidarity payments from the Premier League

etc etc

Have you not noticed them already putting huge amounts into the club and spending large amounts on transfer fees. They haven't done this to remain in the 2nd or 3rd tier. Cortese has clearly stated the plan is to get to the Premier League by 2014. They are also investing huge amounts in the training ground. What makes you think this funding is stopping or was never there? You are the one that indicated the owners didn't plan to make a loss in their first year. Of course they did.

You didn't answer any of my questions in post #56...
