Barnard out for the season

doggface

Recommended Posts

i dont care about Brightons squad as they seem to have been 10 points clear the majority of the season. Had they been in our position they may well of dipped into the market as well as getting Noone. We got our own No-one but not the Plymouth one.

I wish for the cards to be fully stacked in our favour, i truly hope that my concerns are not well founded and we cruise to promotion. The weekend will tell us a lot.

The point is that we did dip into the market. We have signed Chaplow, Stephens, Forte and N'guesson either perm or on loan. Added to an already very good squad for this level that should be enough. No team can compensate entirely for the number of injuries we have seen to key players. Do you think Utd would have sufficient cover if they lost their equivalent players? say:

Berbatov

Scholes

Giggs

Nani

Evra

They have good players to come in but ultimately their team would be weakened as would their chances of the double.

You can't have a squad full of back up players all of equal quality as the first team. It just doesn't happen. The injuries are unfortunate but we still have decent enough players to see us over the line.

i dont know their squad but I doubt Fergie would accept taking a third choice forward and a kid for the future as back up to the all important promotion that we NEED this season.

If we fail to go up how many of our 'star' players do you think we will still have next season? it is paramount to gto up and so no insurance is too much now.

At this stage of the season it's not really a choice. Suffer enough injuries to key players and any team would end up relying on players which would not normally be in the first team.

As a TEAM we have only scored TWO league goals this season when Connolly has been on the pitch.

Both against Bristol Rovers (Barnard up there in the 90+1th for the 4th and Guly in the 82th to win us a match).

That is 2 TEAM goals in the 377 mins he has been in the pitch, imo the worst of any of our players. It has to be Guly starting up front for me.

Connolly full record in the league this season :-

Plymouth .L 0-1 - Full game

Orient ...D 1-1 - 80-90 (10mins)

B Rov ....W 4-0 - 79-90 (11 mins) - Barnard scored in the 91th min for the 4th.

Rochdale .L 0-2 - 0-61 (61 mins)

Swindon ..L 0-1 - Full game

MK Dons ..L 0-2 - 0-65 (65 mins)

P/Boro ...W 4-1 - 82-90 (8 mins)

Brentford L 0-2 - 83-90 (7 mins)

Charlton .W 2-0 - 79-90 (11 mins)

B Rovs ...W 1-0 - 66-90 (24 mins) - Guly scored in 82th min.

Stupid stat.

you should stop your arrogance and stop calling people morons. You may be happy having Gobern and players who are at the end of their careers and injury prone holding our hopes of promotion others are not. As for your embarrassment that we have spent a lot Lol. I have no embarrassment as Im sure Man Utd Liverpool Barcelona etc dont when they wipe the floor with other clubs for decades.

You may rest on your HOPE that the reserves can hold their nerve at the most important part of the season, but i dont believe we should have to be in the position. If the club had spent to ensure promotion (after all Im sure many have told me on numerous occasions that we are wealthy), getting in players of the quality that will hold us in good stead if we do go up to the next level.

We have been crying out for cover right through the spine of the team. So before you point your finger calling people who have rightful concerns about being a moron you should perhaps look in the mirror

Are you really that stupid that you actually believe everything you have typed here??

where have i said those players are free? I think i recall that the club were building a squad that would not only get us up this league but will then go on to get us up again from there. Im not sure those are in that category. Signing a bit of quality to not only assure us promotion but to kick on from there seems to be an odd opinion on this forum.

No not for that much. When we were in for him the hype was low key and i was told he was in the £1.2m area, Antonio for £1m would have been another who cut it already in this league , his power and strength gave us an option that we could do with now.

so, norwich could not sign him for £3m, but we could have..?

It was Pardew that said that was his aim. It was a bit of a stupid thing to say as it really wasn't that realistic and raised everybody's expectations of who we would sign.

As i say when i heard we were after him the figure we were baulking at was in the region of 1.2m. That was quite a time before Norwich. Of course Norwich may have been on the case and biding their time and may have gazumped us ,

Maybe but it is something that could be aimed for if the 5 year plan was to be achieved.

do you really think Paul Lambert woke up one day and thought...."you know, I may put in a bid for CMS"....

players are watched, tracked, dialogue goes on with clubs..maybe we put a bid in first KNOWING norwich were going to..or planned to...

No but we were a good month ahead of them in our interest. During that time he became more prominent. Clubs watch loads of players doesnt mean they will go and try and buy.

That is an opinion based on no factual evidence.

Just because you think it, doesn't make it true.

Simple fact is that a team on the verge of the EPL couldn't prise him away with a £3mill bid but you fully expect that a L1 team should have got him for less than 1/2 the Norwich bid.

You want to stay out of the sun mush.

well when we were balking at the price over 1m , i suggest Norwich would have jumped at it then. It was at the end of the window when Norwich apparently tried to pay a lot more. Therefore it would be fair to assume we were in gfor him before they were. This is not the CMS thread by the way, and he is not the only player we may have got to strengthen.

edit...if £3m was not enough..how on earth would that make half that enough...?

It's not realistic just to go out and buy loads of established players and then expect many of them just to stay in reserve apart from when needed in a few games a season. Look at how Puncheon reacted when he effectively lost his place in the first choice 11 to Oxlade-Chamberlain. While I agree squad depth is important the blend needs to be right - we can't expect players of the same quality to just be waiting on the sidelines as they will get impatient eventually. Despite his injury concerns Connolly is a quality player to have in reserve and had he not been injured I imagine he'd be on loan elsewhere right now as I couldn't see him just wasting away the last moments of his career in our reserve team.

^sorry, but the above is b*llocks. When all is said and done we are currently a third-tier club, and can only sign players willing to play for a third-tier club. Its all well and good saying we got loadsamoney so any player ought to want to come here but it just doesnt work that way. imho we have signed the cream of what we could reasonably expect to get in League one, the top strikers in the division, got Fonte in, plus Hammond and Harding and we kept a prem-class keeper, we kept Oxo and Adam against most peoples expectations, need I go on? How keen do you suppose Oldham were to ship out Dale Stephens?

Injuries are just one of those things, no point in worrying about what might have been, but a chance for someone to step up to the plate. I liked the look of Guly in the role earlier in the season and if Lambert can reproduce his form of last season this wont be so much of a loss. I've always felt that Lambert and Barnard were too one paced and sides could squeeze us up a bit if the both played in the side. As hard working as Barny is, he hasn't quite got that turn of pace, where as Guly has. Hopefully they'll need to defend slightly deeper allowing Lambert to profit from a bit more space. Connolly is a decent option off the bench if we need a goal. AL is the key, not Barny, if Adam plays the majority of the remaining minutes, we'll go up.If not it'll be close.

i know how you feel Alps, I was scoffed at when i kept calling for some players to be brought in during the windows. If anything happens to (RL Please no) we are really in trouble. Complacency regarding our squad has been a been mistake IMO.

Huddersfield kept their nerve when we were chasing them last season, i hope we can do the same to them this season.

Yeah, we really should have planned for having half our outfield first team seriously injured at the same time. Why didn't we bring in a bit of cover up front...a couple of pacy players that could cover both the wing and strikers positions?

The more and more I look at this stat the more and more I wonder.....WTF ?

If you include the Cup tie where he came off the bench and scored he has played in 5 wins and 5 defeats so that says... what ?

You might as well say that stat shows that Saints were crap until mid September cos 6 of those games only take us up to 15 September and of the next 4 we have won 3 !!

Don't think Antonio is any better than Forte and N'Guesson - his only experience other than non-league was here. Expect if club wanted him on loan rather than those two could easily sorted loan.

There is not way that Peterborough would have sold CMS to us for anywhere near the figure you mentioned - or even double it. Doubt CMS would have signed any way he has made it clear he wants to look at higher level options at end of season and knows a potential premier league side wants him.

Think you are getting bit carried away with fantasy football!

Despite all these clowns without a clue critiscing Gully, goals win games and Gully has scored the same amount of goals in half the combinded appearances the supposed footballing gods of Papa Waigo and Antonio did for us last season.

Potentially misleading.

From memory Papa Waigo & Michail Antonio were (in the main) used as substitutes last season while Guly on the other hand has actually started plenty of games. A more telling stat than a crude tally of appearances would be the number of goals scored per minute played, or would that not fit your argument?

As you have raised this matter the onus is on you to prove your case.

...and then Seaborne and Martin got injured as well...we should have cover for the cover for the cover for the cover for the covers cover, and maybe a couple more to cover him.

What about if i get injured hope club can get cover for my big g*b for Monday
