dannysfc Posted 18 April, 2011 Posted 18 April, 2011 Am thinking of going for a pre match drink before the Brighton game on Saturday and looking at the http://www.footballgroundsguide.co.uk website I saw that there looks like a few pubs that are near the ground which I may go to as looking at reviews by other fans I see that the Station Pub looks Good as it has SKY n that n there's a few others too! Or will us Saints fans get allocated pubs for the game by Sussex Police or can we go at our own free will!?! Thanks! COYR !!
Deppo Posted 18 April, 2011 Posted 18 April, 2011 I think the football club puts rainbow flags outside all the pubs allocated to away fans. Just look for one and you shouldn't go too far wrong!

OK thanks for that Deppo Mate and will look out for them when I arrive but if not then will ask Brighton fans/Sussex Police about where to drink and I should be alright!

Tractor_Saint Posted 18 April, 2011 Posted 18 April, 2011 sh*te ground, sh*te pubs. Don't be fooled by the pub at the 'stadium' (losely speaking). Away fans aren't allowed in. Roll on next year when we'll be playing them at a decent ground.
Kingsland Nick Posted 18 April, 2011 Posted 18 April, 2011 OK thanks for that Deppo Mate and will look out for them when I arrive Make sure you wear your colours with PRIDE.

Battle of Trafalgar, Lord Nelson and Evening star all top pubs. Station just outside Preston Park also a good pub. http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/results.shtml/tr/234

Queue for the bus back to the park and ride was rubbish too. Thank god we didn't lose that game! Good luck if you're going there.
BHA Posted 18 April, 2011 Posted 18 April, 2011 We will be in the evening star so pop along for a few drinks and a bit of banter.
dannysfc Posted 18 April, 2011 Author Posted 18 April, 2011 Are you even old enough to drink? Yes I am actually Denzil Mate and what you don't think I am old enough to drink and why's that Mate !?!
dannysfc Posted 18 April, 2011 Author Posted 18 April, 2011 We will be in the evening star so pop along for a few drinks and a bit of banter. OK thanks BHA and is the Evening Star pub any Good and is it near the ground and how far is it walking wise too BHA Mate !?! Thanks!
scotty Posted 18 April, 2011 Posted 18 April, 2011 I think the football club puts rainbow flags outside all the pubs allocated to away fans. Just look for one and you shouldn't go too far wrong! A few years ago we met one of my wife's friends for a drink on christmas eve, her husband is an ambulance driver and suggested meeting up with a couple of his friends in the London Hotel down the end of oxford street opposite the casino. He didnt mention about the place tho I suppose the flags outside should have warned me, but it was pretty obvious from all the "action" around the bar hahahaa, anyway a mate from Manchester texted me about the football, I texted him back saying I couldnt chat as I was in a gay bar, 5 minutes later he sends me a picture message of his generously-endowed girlfriend topless with the caption "one last desperate throw of the dice to stop you from turning"
BHA Posted 18 April, 2011 Posted 18 April, 2011 OK thanks BHA and is the Evening Star pub any Good and is it near the ground and how far is it walking wise too BHA Mate !?! Thanks! Is a good boozer both home and away fans mix here, all friendly banter or battle of trafalgar good as well. Both outside Brighton station so hop on train to preston park then about ten minute walk to our loveley ground.
JackFrost Posted 18 April, 2011 Posted 18 April, 2011 I had to have a double take at this thread, at first i thought the first word was 'Pulis'
Saint137 Posted 18 April, 2011 Posted 18 April, 2011 Evening Star is bloody awesome but a bit on the small side. Great beer though, many lost evenings in there with Brighton mates. Handy because if necessary you could crawl to the station if required
SNSUN Posted 18 April, 2011 Posted 18 April, 2011 Rainbows are pretty imo. They'd definitely entice me into a place. A bit of colour in a pub is a good thing, beats drab soulless bars. Cosy chairs make all the difference imo, hard chairs hurt my bum. UTS! LOL

OK thanks for that BHA Mate n I don't want to pass judgement on the last bit but will be looking forward to be visiting your new ground though BHA If we do go up which I think we will because of our GD ahead of Huddersfield but we will see!
La BoIS Saint Posted 18 April, 2011 Posted 18 April, 2011 Evening Star is simply one of the best pubs in the country. Latest Dark Star seasonal is this stuff which sounds pretty good. Mai Bock 5.6% A traditional style German Helles bier. Created using specially imported Pilsner, Vienna and Cara hell malt. Hopped with Hallertau Magnum, Spalt Select and Motueka hops. As usual, we like to give our beers the ‘Dark Star’ treatment – adding crushed green peppercorns at the end of the boil to accentuate the spiciness of the Nobel hop varieties. The beer was then subject to long, cold fermentation with a traditional lager yeast.

Hope you do go up automatically, Southampton dont belong in this division.
Thedelldays Posted 18 April, 2011 Posted 18 April, 2011 Hope you do go up automatically, Southampton dont belong in this division. i know...we belong in the premier league......fnar fnar
south Posted 18 April, 2011 Posted 18 April, 2011 sh*te ground, sh*te pubs. Don't be fooled by the pub at the 'stadium' (losely speaking). Away fans aren't allowed in. Roll on next year when we'll be playing them at a decent ground. They are frequently let in, it depends on Police advice and expected attendance. I'm imagine it's a no for this game. There are plenty in pubs in Brighton, you can catch a train from Brighton to Preston Park in time for the game.
hamster Posted 18 April, 2011 Posted 18 April, 2011 Anyone planning on an early arrival could do worse than taking a left off the a27 up to Devils Dyke. Pub food is okay and awesome views, then a gentle ambling drive back down go the withdean. I reckon many pubs along the A27 will be saints pubs on Saturday actually. Anyone heading into town could xo worse thN eating at 'Day's' for their buffet. Almost opposite the pier and round the corner from Pool Valley, where lots of buses stop heading toasted Preston park iirc. Anyone staying over I wholehearted recome d The Ship. A Barcelo hotel often having weekend deals on offer. Parking in brighton is terrible btw.
Griffo Posted 18 April, 2011 Posted 18 April, 2011 Danny, if you give/sell me your match ticket I'll tell you all the best pubs to go to.
dannysfc Posted 18 April, 2011 Author Posted 18 April, 2011 Hope you do go up automatically, Southampton dont belong in this division. Yeh that's the thing BHA is that Yes I think we should go up automatically coming 2nd as we have a Better GD to Huddersfield and are 3 points or something ahead of Peterboro Etc and also Yes we don't belong in this division and am agreeing with The Delldays here in that We are a Premier League Team and it still annoys me that we are still in this league (No Offence!) and that we should be playing teams like Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal, Etc instead of teams like Walsall, Notts County, Etc (No Offence!) but we'l see come May 7th BHA Mate! Also Well Done and Congratulations on winning the league and going up and I hope you do well in the Championship and I will be looking forward to be visiting your new stadium in 2011/2012 too Mate!
dannysfc Posted 18 April, 2011 Author Posted 18 April, 2011 Danny, if you give/sell me your match ticket I'll tell you all the best pubs to go to. Nah sorry Griffo Mate as I've only got 1 and I don't particularly want to give it away thanks but if I had another one then I'd probs sell it to you tho Mate! But I hope you do find one tho Mate!
Kevin Turvey Posted 18 April, 2011 Posted 18 April, 2011 I suspect the Battle of Trafalgar will be off limits to Saints fans in colours as will a fair few others. The police put Pompey fans in the Grand Central pub before the game earlier this year. There's usually not a lot of trouble in Brighton unless it's Cardiff, Palace or Swansea so be respectful and you'll be fine in most pubs and there are a lot of good pubs around the station. The homophobes needn't panic, all the pubs in Brighton are to a greater or lesser degree gay-friendly but the overtly gay ones are not near the station bar one or two exceptions. At 2.30ish get the train to Preston Park (2 minute train ride) and as soon as you get out the east side of the station turn left and follow everyone else down a lane through a wood. It's a 10 minute walk to Withdean from the station. Whatever you do, don't try and drink near Withdean. The nearest pub - The Sportsman is probably home fans only and is a ****hole. The Station by Preston Park will be rammed and you'll struggle to get a beer. Have a good time and see you next year in the Championship.

Cheers for the information. I'm not a homophobe but I would like to avoid the overtly gay pubs. Can you please tell me the names of them and which streets they're on (and directions from the ground).

You don't need to go looking for it, just flop your junk out as soon as you get to the station and someone will be on it in a flash
Kevin Turvey Posted 18 April, 2011 Posted 18 April, 2011 You don't need to go looking for it, just flop your junk out as soon as you get to the station and someone will be on it in a flash Seriously mate. That attitude stinks. It's also wildly inaccurate. Most gay blokes that I know are quite picky about the blokes they choose. Your average football fan with his beergut and bad dress sense doesn't quite cut it for them.
