Window Cleaner Posted 26 July, 2011 Posted 26 July, 2011 First Lumb and now Griffiths is injured playing footy before the match. Warwicks won toss and batting. Briggs in for Griff, which as the pitch is a used one, is no bad thing. except that Briggs got smashed for 10 an over. 5 overs for 50 runs
Leicestersaint Posted 26 July, 2011 Posted 26 July, 2011 Hants chasing a big score and Carberry is just out cheaply- 147 for 3 now. Vince is doing well.
wadesmith Posted 26 July, 2011 Posted 26 July, 2011 I think we gotta give up eith Carbs this season, star again nextt, he just destroys any momentum at the moment.
Weston Saint Posted 28 July, 2011 Posted 28 July, 2011 Radio Solent reporting Griffiths has signed a new 2 year contract. Also confirmed on Hants Web Site
OldNick Posted 28 July, 2011 Posted 28 July, 2011 perhaps not paying up on time isn't a calcuated decision, HCC probably doesn't have the money.I don't think the game was all that well attended and the weather wasn't great (is it anywhere this "summer"?).Sri Lanka aren't a great draw and 2 million + is a lot of money. I did question that at the time but i think Weston said that there would be minimal losses. Therefore the money came in and should have been ready to pay out. It seems to me that getting further tests is imperative for the clubs future, to risk it by holding money back seems daft to me.Also spending so much on conference facilities is hell of a risk as there is so much competition.

Bear in mind the refunds for the Test match aren't actually handled by Hampshire. The address you had to post the tickets to was somewhere in the midlands.
Leicestersaint Posted 31 July, 2011 Posted 31 July, 2011 We're doing OK against Leicestershire. It's 259 for 3 with one over to go with Ervine hitting 136.
Give it to Ron Posted 31 July, 2011 Posted 31 July, 2011 Great knock from Ervine and well supported by McKenzie. I have to say though that Leicestershire were the worst fielding team I have seen. I also thought they were poor not even atttempting to go for the total and just ambled along. Briggs pick of the bowlers.
wadesmith Posted 2 August, 2011 Posted 2 August, 2011 Hants Championship hopes of survival have just died today.
Weston Saint Posted 2 August, 2011 Posted 2 August, 2011 Balance of the team is all wrong. Dimi is fit but could not get into the side. Kabir is fit but cannot get into the side. Yet our only change bowler is the woeful bowler, Ervine who only managed a 3 over and 2 over spell. Wood bowled well and deserved his place. Cork was OK. Why are we playing 2 spinners!!! Dimi or Ali should have been in the side for Briggs (only because Tahir is our overseas player and of international class) We have Dawson to turn to if we needed him. I bumped into Cork just before the game to ask about the toss. "I lost it and they bat" was the reply. Says it all really. I walked away from the balcony on one occasion as I was fed up clapping Yorkshire players achievements. Thoroughly depressing day but the food and company was to its usual high standard. Pitch Inspector, Pigott was present again today. Nothing to report would be my guess.
Window Cleaner Posted 2 August, 2011 Posted 2 August, 2011 Hants Championship hopes of survival have just died today. there weren't any anyway, haven't been since De Wet and Myburgh turned out to be a right pair of Ali Dias. Our bowling has no bite, it may be useful for restricting sides in wishy washy one day cricket but when you have to bowl sides out twice to get a result we aren't at the races. Oh people will blame the batting but what can you do, they'll be facing 450/500 tomorrow needing a result so silly strokes will be played.
Dellman Posted 2 August, 2011 Posted 2 August, 2011 Methinks there's been some rum goings on at the club this year, maybe the senior guys didn't like being overlooked for the captaincy; maybe there's an obsession with overseas 'stars' who are only here for the payday; maybe the young ones face jealousy from the old lags and there's plenty of those; maybe the bossman was focused on the Test match and the lolly because the four day matches run at a loss; in short there's chaos from top to bottom, like the football team four years ago: good ground rubbish team no money
wadesmith Posted 3 August, 2011 Posted 3 August, 2011 Embarrasing. End of. And i'm not talking about my spelling. Changes have to made. Bloated squad, injuries, what load of ****. Shambles.
Leicestersaint Posted 3 August, 2011 Posted 3 August, 2011 435 for 5 - extras 43. Are we dropping lots of catches or is the bowling just plain ordinary? I am afraid that wholesale changes look to be needed.
Leicestersaint Posted 3 August, 2011 Posted 3 August, 2011 A collapse of sorts by Yorkshire! Now all we have to do is score nearly 400 to avoid the follow on - what odds??
Leicestersaint Posted 3 August, 2011 Posted 3 August, 2011 80 for 2 already. We need at least a couple of centuries here.
stevegrant Posted 3 August, 2011 Posted 3 August, 2011 Should be fine for a draw, heavy rain all day tomorrow, according to the forecast.
Weston Saint Posted 3 August, 2011 Posted 3 August, 2011 The wicket is pretty flat at the moment but is likely gain a bit of turn later. Yorkshire were boring and too defensive. They could and should have upped the run rate. They could and should have declared earlier. They were only ever interested in making sure Hampshire did not gain points over them. It gives Cricket a bad name. They only gained 3 batting points in the alloted 110 overs. Tony Pigott there again today but he was not there to look at the pitch. He had his other hat on accessing the Umpires. Peter Such also around on behalf of the Selectors looking no doubt at Briggs and Rashid
wadesmith Posted 4 August, 2011 Posted 4 August, 2011 I think we gotta give up eith Carbs this season, star again nextt, he just destroys any momentum at the moment. Yup, looks like I was on the ball with this one. Mystic Meg must be ****ting herself.
keithd Posted 4 August, 2011 Posted 4 August, 2011 Yup, looks like I was on the ball with this one. Mystic Meg must be ****ting herself. i was at the game yesterday when he came out to bat, when he walked down the steps passed me i heard him muttering "i'll show that fking Wadeo..." true story that.
wadesmith Posted 4 August, 2011 Posted 4 August, 2011 This is the way to glory. Get within 100...declare...skittle them for approx 120.....knock off defecit at leisurely rate....bombs away we stave off relegation.
Leicestersaint Posted 4 August, 2011 Posted 4 August, 2011 291 for 2 - well done Carberry, well done McKenzie.
manji Posted 4 August, 2011 Posted 4 August, 2011 Glad I went up in the afternoon Carberrys 100 was extra special. There was even talk he would never play again after his illness.
Leicestersaint Posted 5 August, 2011 Posted 5 August, 2011 365 for 2 - some batting bonus points and a draw. (Much) better than it looked but we need wins.
bungle Posted 5 August, 2011 Posted 5 August, 2011 This is now Hants record partnership for 3rd wicket! Have we clearly prepared a dull, lifeless pitch just to spite the ECB?!
Berkshire Saint Posted 5 August, 2011 Posted 5 August, 2011 You almost get the impression that's the case, yes!
SO5 4BW Posted 5 August, 2011 Posted 5 August, 2011 Fabulous batting effort - and especially pleased for Carberry after his recent troubles - but if you were going to a game what sort of pitch would you rather have - that vs Notts or vs Yorks?
chrisobee Posted 5 August, 2011 Posted 5 August, 2011 And 500 stand it is ! 559/2 Carberry 272* McKenzie 229* An epic performance !
SO5 4BW Posted 5 August, 2011 Posted 5 August, 2011 500 partnership - only the 11th time in all first class cricket; second highest ever for the 3rd wicket - but the highest is 624 for Sri Lanka in a test a few years back
stevegrant Posted 5 August, 2011 Posted 5 August, 2011 This has been and continues to be an excellent two fingers to the ECB. 102 more runs after tea for the world record...
This Charming Man Posted 5 August, 2011 Posted 5 August, 2011 This has been and continues to be an excellent two fingers to the ECB. 102 more runs after tea for the world record... I wonder how they'll try and penalise us for this...?
OldNick Posted 5 August, 2011 Posted 5 August, 2011 the ECB will come up with something to give us points for, shame it isn't points in the table.
This Charming Man Posted 5 August, 2011 Posted 5 August, 2011 the ECB will come up with something to give us points for, shame it isn't points in the table. I reckon we'll be deducted points for preparing a wicket that is incapable of producing a result.
SO5 4BW Posted 5 August, 2011 Posted 5 August, 2011 Not that it really matters but Cork has just declared after Carberry got his 300 - might as well have let him go to 317 to break the all-time top score record for Hants. No chance of a result anyway...
Minty Posted 5 August, 2011 Posted 5 August, 2011 McKenzie out for 237, a stand of 523. Carbs got his triple century before we declared and brought things to an end.
Minty Posted 5 August, 2011 Posted 5 August, 2011 Oops, no sorry, Yorks are batting again, my mistake.
corsacar saint Posted 5 August, 2011 Posted 5 August, 2011 A magnificent effort,if only Carberry had not had his serious illness, things may have turned out differently in -The CCC
wadesmith Posted 5 August, 2011 Posted 5 August, 2011 Rigjt so let me get this straight we produce a (non damgerous) pitch which produces an excellent game and get fined 8 points. We then produce a pitch where two first divisipn bowling line-ups take 13 wickets in three and a half days and it's a big thumbs up from Tony Pillock... Sorry Piggot (bit of satire from me there) and they wonder why no-one watches championship cricket. Absolute rubbish, and I don't think it's one in the eye for the ECB..they fined us, and now we've produced a bland pitch as required guranteeing our relegation. Congrats to Carbs though...thought his career was over..incredible stuff.
Dark Munster Posted 7 August, 2011 Posted 7 August, 2011 Hants 154-6 in 20 overs. Durham 99 all out. Hants make the finals!
dinger Posted 7 August, 2011 Posted 7 August, 2011 Hants 154-6 in 20 overs. Durham 99 all out. Hants make the finals! Not a massive fan of the 20 over game, but it was on the telly... what a comprehensive walloping they handed out. It was like watching England...
