For those interested we used the test match wicket for the England/Australia Ladies Game and our match. I wondered why the covers were put on it after our game against Gloucester last Friday. And guess what, the covers were put on it again last night!!! To be used again on Thursday Night???????

Its certainly a wicket that suits the slow bowlers and I was very concerned with our total - again we threw away wickets with

poor shots...Afridi being one. I will forgive him though with that bowling performance.

Briggs, Tahir and Afridi were tremendous.

I was a bit worried about the body language of the players at the start there seemed no fight....some poor fielding and no luck...then the slowies came on and a different game. The huddle at the 8th wicket was interesting...who called them in as I missed that.?

I thought we were about 25 runs short on that wicket but our spinners did us proud. Good to see Cork winning the toss and deciding to bat. Did not see who called the "huddle"

Watched a very enjoyable England game before ours and the ball was turning then. Sussex have two world class quickies in Naved and Gul but on the night our world class spinners of Afridi, Tahir & Briggs was just what the wicket ordered.

That's what Cork told Rob Key last night, and said that he'd be playing a fourth spinner. Think it was a bit tongue in cheek though.

If we do, it might move us into a better position for the next Ashes series, perhaps?

Doubt it. With 9 potential Test grounds, I think it would make it LESS likely that we get an Ashes Test in 2013 because we'd have already had a game two years running.

It'll go to Lord's.

Bloody Charles Colville insinuating we had an advantage because of the pitch, absolute rubbish. Glad Rob Key didn't make any excuses. In fact, didn't seam do just as much damage as spin this evening?

All teams prepare the pitch to maximise their strengths but, as you say, despite Charlie going on about our spinners, it was Dimi that got us off to a flying start - 2 wickets for no runs at the beginning.

Colville's such a cóck.

Even if we had won solely because of the pitch and the quality of our spinners (as was arguably the case against Sussex), so what? What would he rather, every groundsman across the country prepared flat wickets that offer absolutely no help for the bowlers?

Colville is a Kent at the best of times. It is about time we made thing advantageous for us when at home. I don't know what we will do if we ever play on a seamers wicket

When we played the other night I thought Nasser was keen for us to lose as his beloved Essex would gain.

Exactly. I'm glad Nasser defended the pitch, though we shouldn't have needed anyone to defend it anyway. It's what teams playing at home do - they prepare the pitch in their favour. It's not our fault it's so one-sided because of the quality of our players and their performances.

I don't think Colville even mentioned that, IIRC, Kent's spinners took more wickets than ours! Then again, I think they bowled out whilst ours only mopped up the lower order..

The issue was not so much the preparation but the fact we used the Test Match wicket again after England v SL 5 days, England Ladies v Australia T20, Hants v Sussex T20 and then this game.

Rod Bransgrove said he wanted to roll it up and take it to away games as well!!

It was a perfectly good wicket that took spin.

Will not be used for our next home game though.

Another easy win. Middlesex 121-9 after being 61-1. Afridi 3-16. Hants 122-3 in 17 with Adams 38* and partnerships with Lumb, Vince and Ervine. This was at Uxbridge which is a half decent club ground. In the 9th season of 20/20 we have never had a game at Lords. Very peculiar!

Also Somerset lost to Glos, so 4 points clear.

Next Friday away at The Oval. 6.40 start. I hope to see a lot of you there.

Somerset and Sussex both got beaten tonight (quite heavily as well), so we've got a 4-point lead, and a game in hand over Somerset.

Below us, there are 4 teams tied on 14 points with Surrey a point further back. With Sussex, Essex and Surrey still to play, we're going to have a pretty big say in who joins us in the quarter-finals.

Looks like being a big crowd at the Oval on Friday night, I really struggled to get two seats next to each other on their online booking system.

I get a slightly uneasy feeling when I watch us at the moment. Not the performances, they cant be faulted, but the interaction between Cork and Alfridi. Seems Big Al is in Corkies ear a lot, between each delivery he is giving him advice and I,m sure once or twice he (Cork) has pretty much told him to back off. Couple of times too Corkster has god a wicket and he's almost blanked Al in the celebrations...

Could be wrong, and even if im right so what we keep winning

Pointless post of the month goes to me!

Michael Carberry starts his comeback today playing a 3 day game for the 2nds. His scan is still showing the clots on his lung have not completely cleared but a change in medication has meant he can hope to continue his career.

Good news!!

Essex captain, James Foster, given a 2 match ban after refusing to leave the ground after being given out at The Oval a couple of weeks ago. He saw the replay on the big screen and spent several seconds pointing at it and shouting at the umpires.

Seems he has got off rather lightly, especially as he is the captain and is responsible for his sides behaviour. Anyhow, an immediate ban presumes he will miss tonights match (along with the rain, hopefully).

Lumb did his ankle in playing footy an hour before the start. Could be out for a few weeks. Howell was playing for the 2nd XI next door and got the call, just after getting out for 6.

As Weston told us, Carberry played in the 2nd XI as well and got 42 in his first knock of the season.

In the 20/20, Bates kept wicket brilliantly. 2 catches stood up to Dimi were as expected, but his legside stumping of Bopara off Afridi's quicker one (80mph+) was so good it had the umpire, Nick Cook, applauding.

Good win again yesterday. Very responsible innings from Vince and some good fielding from him won him of the match. We used the old wicket we had used against Gloucestershire and 150 always looked a tough ask. I think we would have still won without the interruption from the swirling rain.

Michael Carberry has been loaned out to Havant for Saturday to get more time in the middle and hopes to then be available on Monday for our 4 day match against Sussex. So pleased to see him back. It really was touch and go whether he would ever play again.

Great news about Carbs...so pleased if he can get back out there in the middle again as he gives us the acceleration we are so clearly missing.

Afridi considering an offer to play for us in remainder of Pro40 games? He was due to go to SL for their T20 champions League but today it has been reported that it has been postponed for a year over "Indian TV issues" That leaves him free. Watch this space

Another good win - we have nearly qualified!

Correction, we HAVE qualified.

I boringly spent half an hour yesterday compiling a spreadsheet to check. Somerset can, and probably will (their last two are against Gloucestershire and Middlesex), get to 20 points, so they could still finish above us on net run rate, while Essex can only get 18 points after our win against them on Wednesday. Sussex, Surrey and Kent can all get more points than us at the moment.

However, all three of them have to play each other, and as a result, the worst-case scenario for us is that two of them also get 20 points, with us losing all three remaining games. The worst that could happen is that we finish 4th on net run rate. A win tonight will guarantee a home tie in the quarter-finals.

I thought we could only have one overseas player for the CB40 competition?

This is SaintsWeb after all, it has a reputation to keep up...

because nobody reads this thread who is of an argumentative nature Alrite!!!!

Yes that is correct so Tahir would have to just concentrate on Championship and T20. I picked it up from a remark made by Afridi but nothing more said at present.

David Balcombe has been been loaned out to Kent for a month having made his injury comeback with 6/42 in 2nds and 65 with the bat. Already making an impression against Surrey with 6-2-26-1 so far. If he can stay fit I see him as our future all rounder

Not yet. Will be 2 games back to back on Sky on Saturday (let's hope it is not Hants as we play Leeds at home that day) 1 on Sunday and the final QF game on Monday. Sky cover all. Won't know until all league games completed

During the Solent commentary, they asked Tim Tremlett when the Q/F would be and he said that the police do not want a Saturday game as it clashed with Saints v Leeds.
Yes it will be Sunday or Monday according to Solent.

Dimi is out of the Championship game against Sussex today with an injury.
