how will the bad weather in the Test effect the clubs finances? I assume we had to pay to get the Test played at the RB
It is wdely thought that RoseBowlplc paid in excess of £1m for the Test Match. I am not sure if they have insured against any refunds. As yesterday was over 25 overs no refund is due. Today they are a couple of overs short so 50% refund available.

Ticket sales were very disappointing but just enough to avoid any major financial problems I am led to believe. As far as corporate & food concerned the Rosebowl sold the franchise with a decent profit % coming back.

Glamorgan lost £1 Million from the First Test.
It is reported their bid was £2m. Hampshire's Commercial Manager, Zak has reported to the press that whilst ticket sales were disappointing it was not a problem for the club. I will likely know more late next week

Agree with that..baffles me especially where again today we get battered.

Hampshire's bowling is pitiable and has been all season so why not make it a bit worse.

We're down already so why not give the bloke a chance to get some Div 2 experience.

Whoever recruited this bowling line up needs hanging, look at the figures from this match,Ali gone for 66 off of 11/12 overs without any end product,Tomlinson just a few less conceded already. If I can see that the bowling is all wrong from 800 miles away surely someone at the Rose Bowl can see it as well.

Any reason why Briggs is not playing - or Howells for that matter? We appear (from afar) to have way too many mercenaries in the side and out of form players. Disastrous seasona and when will Wood get a chance.....current bowling is atrocious...but then so is the batting!

can we avoid the follow on??

looking unlikey now, Cork gone for a duck to the 2nd ball of the day(or I think it was)

Richardson has shown that you can take wickets on this track so why exactly we were tarting about with Ali,Tahir and Tomlinson is a complete mystery to me.Our batsmen never have a chance, they're always facing gigantic totals and as we now always need to win they're under pressure from the first overs to knock them off quickly.

Just when you think things can't get any worse, they do.

If I had any hair left I'd tear it out. T20 notwithstanding, the last few seasons have been a car crash in slow motion.

And to think we were second in the county championship a couple of seasons back, Warne must have been winning games all by himself.

What have any of 7/8 players each championship game done to deserve a place.Being thrashed by Worcestershire[unless we are undeservedly saved by the weather],is as low as it will ever get.We would have been better off getting a decent 4 day batsman instead of Myburgh ,and not bothering at all with De Wet. I am sure finishing last in the championship, was the thing furthest away from Rod Bransgroves mind at the start of the season.

Finally for the second time, why the hell did we let Simon Jones go out on loan, and also I bet Kabir Ali is having second thoughts about joining -The Manchester United of cricket.[His quote].

Do you think Rod Bransgrove is bothered about the 4 day game?
Go and sit with him or pass the time of day with him when we are not doing very well in a 4 day game! You will know then how passionate he still is about the 4 and 5 day game. He just feels there are too many 4 day games for each team.

What has Mascheranas done since his outburst about not being picked by England, to deserve a county place?

Bowled pretty well since his return actually. He's had a ****ing serious injury and it's amazing he's playing to be honest. Accept that his batting form is worrying though.

Judging by the small number of comments on this thread, the small attendance at matches and the team's performances, I don't think anybody is greatly bothered what happens which is sad for us cricket lovers, we're cheated while others make the money

Marshall (both of them) Greenidge, Smith brothers, played their entire carees with us, that's the difference

Ridiculous argument. If they were playing now, they would be prevented by their respective boards of playing hardly any County Cricket. Tahir would gladly of played for us last year, but his commitment to South Africa made us look elsewhere. By the time he became available it was too late. Hence, Warwickshire signed him. He was always coming here this season and, hopefully, for years to come.

Also, Greenidge was brought up locally, (Berkshire) and was eligible to play for England, when he started. By the rules at the time he never counted as an overseas player

This is all so true - I don't doubt Weston that Rod does care about the fortunes of the 4 day side but Rod is a seriously stupid mug for letting Giles White stay in charge, its worse than when Wigley was allowed to waste all those home games in 04/05 by Lowe. Myburgh was a really odd signing and Ali has done nowt bar leak 5 an over and be injured since 2010. With talented but young batters such as Vince, what we needed was a solid head in the top order that averaged a steady 37-40. De Wet's injury record suggested he'd be Ali Mk II and as for loaning out Jones....

Get rid of White now before the Sussex games and we might just get enough momentum with a new coach on the horizon from the southern hemisphere to kick some arse to save the season, just about.

With all these 'stars' collecting their pay packet for doing nowt and our home grown youngsters side-lined, you can't expect a great team spirit. Is Giles White responsible for that, or is it a policy of Bransgrove? I don't know, just asking

This is my personal opinion rather than what I have heard unless I say I have spoken to players.

I think Myburgh was bought in as cover for Lumb and Carberry. He did well in the overseas events and looked likely to be a certain to have a one day future. However with Lumb back, Myburgh in no real form and Howells/Dawson proving they are just as good it looks like he has been relegated to the 2nds.

I think DeWet was bought in as cover for our "crocks" - Jones - Ali - Mascarenhas. He showed pre season form and bowled quick without luck. However Dimi and Kabir have recovered from injury and although not yet firing (Dimi in Championship) the potential is still there. De Wet is now playing for the 2nds

The problem with Jones is that there was always a plan to take it carefully. The club clearly did not think he could bowl more that 6 overs a session and with the fear of him breaking down they have to bring in an extra bowler to cover for the "missing overs". That unbalanced the side. What better than let him have a month away with Glamorgan to see what he could do. He was very frustrated with not playing (he told me so a while back) and I hazzard a guess that some of that might have been the way his contract was constructed. He has a young family and needs to be earning. May be that is the reason the club agreed.

We have to remember that Carberry is one of our best players and has been out this season so far. He is unable to play at present because of this blood thinning medication and the risk of any cut injury. He has to see if the clots in his lungs have cleared. That cannot be done by mediction. He has to wait for the natural body efforts to beak it down. He is due a scan soon and will be able to sit down with his Consultant and decide his future. At 30 he told me it could be the end of his cricket career but lets wait and see. I can detail this now (I had a couple of long chats with him earlier in the season) as it was an article in the Telegraph during the Test.

The form in the Championship is very worrying and it is difficult to see why. Our batting is not up to standard. Adams is ok and McKenzie is beginning to find his form. We have not seen enough of Lumb to judge. Pothas is in poor form and Vince has yet to impose himself consistantly. Ervine when he has been fit (he is now) has also had a dreadful season so far. Our bowling is just as bad. We have good spells but fail to push on. Cork is still on the button but sometime I think he bowls too must in a session. Ali has yet to find his form, Dimi is finding his way back. Tomlinson had a poor match against Worcester following a long lay off and although I think Griffiths is fit he did not feature.

Second Division Cricket looks a real possibily and that will hurt.

As for the reasons in the dressing room? White is a good coach and not afraid to trying different things. There is a rumour that Cork has lost the dressing room. It came from earlier posts on this thread and I heard it on Friday night. However I have seen no evidence of that so far. It may just be too many players including DeWet and Myburgh off form at the same time!!! These two are good players and proved themselves previously.

As for the Test Match, it was a total success in all areas other than the weather and it looks, from rough figures available as if the club will not make much of a loss if any. The important thing is that it ticked all the right boxes as a Test Match venue and we can look forward to more coming to the Rose Bowl if the financial criteria is right.

Thanks for that Weston.

Do you have any idea as to why Griffiths didn't play at Worcester? From what I have seen and heard he has been our best bowler in the championship this year, a feeling backed up by the stats, yet he appears to have been dropped!

Not sure if he was "dropped" or more likely rested as Tomlinson can move the ball more and that seemed (excuse the pun!) important at Worcester. It could be part of the rotation policy. However he did not appear in the recent 2nd 11 game. Will speak to him tonight to see if he is carrying an injury.

Griff's injured mate. Hasn't played in a couple of weeks now.

Think that was a pretty good summary from Weston Saint. It really hasn't been Hampshire's year. Simply too many players out of nick. However, now we are virtually relegated from division 1 of the championship, i think it's about time we started playing some of the younger lads in the 4-day stuff. I thought it was disgraceful that Benny Howell was dropped after a very good performance in his only championship game to date. Guys like Benny, Woody and Danny Briggs should all be given the chance to play 4-day cricket for the rest of the season. If they don't start playing soon, then we will really run the risk of losing some highly talented young cricketers.

That's fair enough then.

I agree with you its not been our year and Griff's injury kind of sums up our season to be honest, bowlers struggling for fitness and batsmen struggling for form. At least it was encouraging at New Road to see Nic and McKenzie scoring some runs and to see Dimi, Kabir, Thommo and Tahir all bowling.

For those interested we used the test match wicket for the England/Australia Ladies Game and our match. I wondered why the covers were put on it after our game against Gloucester last Friday. And guess what, the covers were put on it again last night!!! To be used again on Thursday Night???????
