He has retired from international cricket, so can they stop him playing in England?

He hasn't "retired" as such, just said that he won't play for them again under the current management because of the way they've treated him. Unfortunately for him, he's under a central contract at the moment, so they can revoke any "no-objection certificates" they had previously issued. In theory that means he can't play for us tomorrow, although I'm sure they'll find a way to make it happen.

Sounded like both he and Jimmy Adams are in decent nick, he hit 44 off 18 balls against Surrey's seconds this afternoon while Adams hit an unbeaten 107 :adore:

Afridi has now confirmed he will not be playing for Hampshire this season after Pakistan revoked his No Objection Cerificate and ECB suspended his registration.

I see Leicestershire confirmed today that they've signed Abdul Razzaq for the T20, so there's one potential replacement gone. What a shambles, and for once, not of our doing.

"Shahid Afridi has pleaded guilty to the charges in the showcause notice sent to him by the Pakistan Cricket Board and expressed willingness to face disciplinary action if required." Is he trying to get his NOC back by agreeing to the charges? Could there be another twist before the game starts at 7:10pm?

I think we are one top player away from being a good side again and Afridid could be that man.

We have some good youngsters in Vince, Briggs and Howell must of saved about 15 runs with his fielding last night.

Dimi bowled superbly, Cork came back well after a bad first over - no point in a 6 -3 field if you bowl towards middle-leg!

Wood took some stick but kept going and I thought Briggs bowled well with no luck.

Having Lumb and Adams back as openers showed what we have beem missing - a great partnership and understand each other so well with the running.

If Vince can get his head down he will be an England international(that and moving to Middlesex or Surrey ;-)

Great win....bit puzzled by Corks outburst but good to see a captain defend his team I suppose.

yep, great win. didnt go as couldnt get away from work in time so got to see it all on TV. Pretty good turn out to watch a very good, very disciplined performance with bat and ball. Great to see Lumb back in good nick, Dimi bowled fantastic, excellent support from Corky as always.

16 games, 1 win, 15 to go no reason why we cant win the majority of the rest. Somerset are very strong and we despatched them quite comfortably (lets be honest we really should have beaten them all 3 times last season!)

I think Corkys being really clever. He knows we have started poorly and is building up a siege mentality within the team to cement a very apparent team spirit. Dont forget some in the press suggested he was past his sell by date and should have retired last season.

A lot in the cricket establishment dont like us and see us as nouveau riche upstarts so it makes sense to capitalise on this.

The T20 win was obviously handy but on the Champoinship front we're in desperate straights with Worcs getting a win and all that.I think we now need a couple of wins to even move back into contention to avoid the drop. Still with Lumb and Adams opening the batting again it's better news.I suppose at the end of the day it makes little difference wheter you're in Div 1 or Div 2 in County Cricket.Less travelling I because you don't have to go to Durham,Yorks and Lancs.

Division 2 of the County Championship is dire though. A definite gap between the two divisions has emerged. Also, we're the longest serving Division 1 side so that's something worth hanging on to!

What was Cork's outburst all about? Was sort of half-watching it and general gist I got was that Lumb got slagged off in the local papers (for going to IPL I assume)...obviously I'm not local so haven't managed to find anything written myself.

So, another Twenty20 today, and despite the weather, game is well and truly on...

Reduced to just 5 overs a side, Kent won the toss and put us in, and although we only got 9 off the bat in the first two overs, the last 3 yielded 67!

78-1 off our 5 overs, Lumb, the one wicket, 35 off 11 balls. Adams 33 off 15, Vince 6 off 4.

Kent just starting their reply.

7 consecutive 6's, 3 from Adams at the end of over 3 and Lumb 4 at the start of over 5. And the first 2 overs only saw 11 runs too, very good effort. 100% start (sort of!) to defending the title, lets hope it can ignite our season in other formats of the game, lord knows we needed it!

Maybe the difference is we don't have the Kolpak players playing????

.....plus Lumb and Adams are a great opening partnership.

We really have to look at our recruitment..ok I accept we have been unlucky with Afridi and fitness like Kabir Ali but

De Wet and Myburgh have just not done the business.

Tahir bowled abysmally v Somerset....hope he can get some form soon.

Tahir is in Johannesburg today, where he has been nominated to win the SA Newcomer of the Year award as well as two domestic awards; SuperSport Series Cricketer of the Year and MTN40 Cricketer of the Year.

He will be available for the next game against Gloucestershire

Nothing wrong with the wicket. Absolutely no chance of an ECB investigation

good good. didnt think there was too much wrong with the track against somerset last year to be honest. bit lively but playable. although under 200 runs and 20 wickets might suggest there was a teensy problem :D

Any news on Dawson? He was doing well until something happened
In the CB 40 game against Surrey he was striding down the wicket hitting a couple of 6's. Got beaten by one from Schofield, tried to turn to avoid a stumping and damaged his calf. Has been fit since beginning of T20 competition and had a couple of warm up innings in recent 2nd eleven T20 friendlies. Just cannot get back into the side at present but is travelling with the team and in the squad.

Was a great bowling performance - especially Briggs and Wood.

Our openers were due a fail but thought Lumb played a poor shot

considering the state of the game and it was first ball against spin.

Vince batted well but again got out going for one he didnt need to.

We really do have some talented youngsters who pulled us through last night

Briggs, Wood, Vince and that big kid Cork at the end!

I had a big smile at the Glamorgan lady sat in front of me with a bundle of sheep wool sat spinning it!

I make that 9 domestic T20 wins in a row :smug:

Weather looks terrible for Taunton on Sunday, which to be honest is probably a bonus. A point apiece will do quite nicely.

Spot on. Abandoned already 1 point each.

The Pakistan court have deferred the hearing until 16th June. I am not aware of any replacement being sought but we seem to be doing ok without so why spend money to fix something not broken!

Hampshire chairman Rod Bransgrove admits interest in West Indies star Chris Gayle for T20 IF Afridi situation doesn't resolve

A compromise between the PCB and former captain Shahid Afridi is likely following a meeting between the board chairman Ijaz Butt and Afridi in Islamabad, bringing to an end one of the biggest player-board disputes in recent memory in Pakistan.

"I did meet Afridi in Islamabad but I cannot say any more than that at the moment," Butt told ESPNcricinfo. He refused to indicate if the meeting had an outcome or whether there was an announcement to be expected. A statement from the board later said no further announcements will be made.

Speculation indicated that through this agreement, Afridi will be given the No Objection Certificates he needs to play for Hampshire and later in the Sri Lanka Premier League (SLPL). In return, he will withdraw the petition he filed in the Sindh High Court against the board's decision to form a disciplinary committee, cancel his central contract and revoke his NOC and will face any punishment the committee hands out.

In effect, the situation appears to have returned to when Afridi first replied to the board's showcause notice, in which he accepted violating the code of conduct and expressed a willingness to face a hearing if his NOC was reinstated. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for June 16 at the Sindh High Court and Afridi could withdraw his petition then.

The meeting is believed to have been the result of intervention of senior political figures; from the start the dispute took on a political character. Afridi had appealed directly to Pakistan president Asif Ali Zardari, who is the chief patron of the board, to resolve the situation. He had met Zardari's son Bilawal Bhutto Zardari in London and had spoken to former prime minister Nawaz Sharif as well on the matter.

Rehman Malik, the interior minister and mediator in past disputes, also got involved, promising on Twitter to find a solution. The flurry of activity prompted the PCB to issue a rare statement expressing displeasure at the political interference, compelling Butt to tell a local newspaper of his exasperation at the number of phone calls he had received on the matter.

Advisors close to Afridi are also believed to have tried convincing him to reach a compromise with an administration under whom he has publicly said he will not play again, after having been removed as ODI captain in May. Though Afridi was unconvinced at first, the possibility of losing out on the Twenty20 stint with Hampshire - who were looking at Chris Gayle as a replacement option - forced his hand.

"We've remained hopeful all along, and we are very hopeful that an announcement can be made soon," Rod Bransgrove, Hampshire's chairman, told ESPNcricinfo. "But we cannot say anything more definitive beyond that at this stage.

"We had to look at all contingency options, and Chris Gayle's name was one of those names that came into the frame," Bransgrove said. "But we have remained hopeful all along that Afridi would receive clearance to join us for the remainder of the Twenty20 campaign."
